Re: TSM delay

Yes, I would move the log database to your PC.? I doubt TSM is the issue but you could disable TSM for your testing.

I don't think I had a time problem just logging the QSO, just when I hit enter, it would take about 3 seconds to send the F3 contents.

Log is in Google Drive, so cloud.

I don't believe I have it uploading to LOTW after each contact....in fact, I didn't know you could do that!

Sounds like I should try it with the log local, and see if that fixes the issue??

HI Dave,

  1. What version of ACLog are you running?
  2. Taking TSM out of the equation, does it also take 3 seconds to log a QSO in the normal method (Enter key or click Log Contact)?
  3. Does your ACLog database reside on your PC or in the Cloud?
  4. Do you have the setting enabled to upload to LOTW after each logged QSO?

Re: WSJT-X sending direct to networked N3FJP box

We use a Raspberry Pi for our fileserver, and a python script to wrangle the band/status chattiness in lieu of attempting?to run the log program on the Pi.? Works a treat, but also means we couldn't set up Mac WSJT-X without having a suitable destination for the QSOs.? It'd be nice to know whether those WSJT-X QSOs could just be sent to any old workstation that's doing logging to get added to the log file.

He would probably have to run Windows either in a Virtual Machine, or Parallels then, I would guess. I’m not a Mac person either. But I would imagine having a VM running AC Log (or Field Day) in full screen inside of the window would work. Most likely, he would have to use an external monitor (or it would be a small window on his desktop). Trying to get N3FJP running through WinE or other emulators is a hit and miss (more miss) effort.

?

To be clear, he would have WSJT-X running in a window on his Mac, and the VM running in a second Window. He could potentially have WSJT-X communicate with the VM and have the program on the VM connected to the server. Having said all of this, I would think it’d be much easier to either run Windows using Parallels, or just use a Windows PC instead. I’m just tossing out ideas in case he’s against installing Windows and insists on using his Mac.

Since N3FJP doesn't natively run on the MAC, it won't be connecting to the server, only running WSJT-X.? That's why we're looking at the best way to get his digital Qs over to the shared DB.? He's tried in under a Windows emulator but has not been able to get it to work.? I'm a Windows/Linux/VMWare guy so I have to defer to his knowledge of the Mac.? :)

My other thought is to try it with no output...in the case that RF is doing goofy things.

This is with the single USB cable running the 7610 rig control and also CW keying.

Re: WSJT-X sending direct to networked N3FJP box

I would venture that Scott Davis will have the best answer for this. My opinion is that it should have an instance of N3FJP running on the computer and that should contact the server. Mainly because you run into the issue of both the Mac and another computer trying to update the server share at the same time. Also by having the Mac run an instance of N3FJP on it, you gain the benefit of it alerting if you’re running on the same band/mode as another station and the ability to send messages between stations.

?

That being said, having WSJT-X contact the server directly does work. I have had a setup for a short time where I was running Build-A-Pi (or Ham-Pi) on a Raspberry Pi and having it log to my main desktop’s copy of AC Log. But that was the only device that was logging to the desktop, so I didn’t run into any potential issues.

I'm revamping our "IT Infrastructure" for Field Day next year and have a question regarding the sending from WSJT-X directly to N3FJP.? Is it ok for the digital station to send directly to an instance of N3FJP running on the file server in a networked environment or should it sent to a dedicated logging PC assigned to that station?? I ask because our main digital op uses a Mac and next year we'd like him to be able to log directly to the shared database.

So.....

#1??? Mac --->? N3FJP running on file server PC
#2??? Mac --->? N3FJP running on Windows logging PC assigned to digital station which is connected to the shared database
Any "best practice" or would either work?

Thanks.
