mach 4 and ess 13
I spent hours trying to get mach4 to work with ess. Boy is the configuration a confusing mess. two things i just can't get to work but i am sure there will be others once i test my lube control and other things. i think i can live without my customizations at least for a while but i just wanted to see if mach4 is really any better and worth the effort. I CAN NOT GET MOTOR TUNING TO WORK. i have all pins assigned etc and i can run a test gcode but the steps are totally wrong and need to be changed. in the appropriate place (something like config control motors) i have the familiar motor tuning screen similar to mach3. however the steps speed and accel are greyed out and i can not enter anything. by default all motor checkboxes were checked and i unchecked and checked until i was exhausted. nothing i could do would let me enter the values. also i can not find anywhere where hotkeys are assigned. i found a tutorial you tube by a woman who sounds very authoritative so i think i might have found the answer but i have viasat internet and videos are blurry pixels at anything other than high res which means i have to wait weeks for vids to load. this is why i seriously shy away from youtube. we are in the list for starlink and hope to get it soon so we will be in the 20th or is that 21st century like everyone else. with all the fabulous improvements WTF can't there be a downloadable pdf worth shit? i have a great manual for mach3 and did not have many problems installing or using it other than a few here and there and the bugs which have prompted me to try mach4. so maybe hotkeys and other kule keyboard stuff will be explained buy the very confident sounding woman if i live long enough to download the high res video however trying to find out why motor tuning is greyed out could take me into the next century trying to find the answer. -- Best regards, Spencer Chase 67550 Bell Springs Rd. mach 4 and ess - motor tuning 2
The motor tuning page requires that you not only check the enabled motors in the right column, but you also have to click on the Motor0, or whatever, so that it highlights blue, and then the parameter blocks will be editable and the graph will function for that motor.

Elapsed Time Clock Stopping during a job. ( Version R3.043.066 )
I'm using version Version R3.043.066 Anyone have any idea why the Elapsed time clock would stop during a job? I have had the issue for a long time (many years) but could never figure out why it was happening. Thanks

larger mill, lathe available 6
I have in my garage a 90’s vintage 10 x 54 square way cnc turret mill, pc based control not working. It has been sitting 10 years and has a fully surface rusted table which cleans up easily with a scotchbrite pad and orbital grinder. I believe with rust removed it would be uncompromised. Ways and ballscrews show little or no corrosion, and whats on the ballscrews is on the crest and not in the balltracks. And the Z ballscrew drives the knee not the quill. I have a 17 x 40 nardini engine lathe with fanuc control not working, description similar to above. There’s also a gearhead rong fu round column manual mill in there with table locked by rust but id guess an easy repair, and a 7 x 12 mini lathe on stand in working condition. Pics available on request Have an interest in trading these for a working mach or similar control machine(s), I want to tiddle around with my grandchildren and no longer have any interest in machine shop production. These are 4000# machines, your responsibility to remove them from the garage and cart them away. Available in the early summer when snowbanks are gone and mud season has dried, they are “garagelocked” right now. I would have gratis material and tooling for the person who took these. Plasma Mach3 plate alignment.
Hello, I am using the code below to align the sheet above on the plasma cutting machine. If GetUserLED(1010)=1 Then SetUserLED(1010 ,0) End If dx = GetOEMDRO( 800 ) dy = GetOEMDRO( 801 ) Pi = Atn( 1 ) * 4 If Abs( dx ) > Abs( dy ) Then ' horizontal, near X axis angle = Atn( dy / dx ) Else ' vertical, near Y axis angle = Atn( - dx / dy ) End If angle = angle / Pi * 180 ret = MachMsg("A = " & roun(angle) & "° Confirmar Alinhamento", "Axis Rotation", 4) If ret = 6 Then ' Yes SetOEMDRO(118, angle) 'Code("G68X0Y0R" & angle) Message("A = " & roun(angle) & "°") SetUserLED(1011,0) DoButton(17) While IsMoving() Wend angleF = GetOEMDRO( 118 ) Code("G69") Code("G0 X104.14Y10.15") While IsMoving() Sleep(10) Wend SetOEMDRO(118, angleF) While IsMoving() Sleep(10) Wend DoOEmButton(1007) While IsMoving() Sleep(10) Wend DoOEMButton(170) Sleep(100) DoOemButton(160) End If The code works well but when I need to pause the cut and then cut again the machine loses the position of the axes and presents the error radius to end of arc differs from radius to start. Has anyone experienced this problem, what may be happening, what configuration can I change to solve the problem?

Eratic A Axis using MACH3 6
Inputing G0 or G1 A90 or any number Via the MDI the A Axis drives erratically. It appears to be surging or slowing up/speeding up with stops, all erratic. As the X Y & Z axis work correctly, The Stepper drives are all OK, I have swapped them between Axes and issue always stays with the A . Are there any settings I have missed in MACH3?? Regards Graham

I hate Ebay 15
I am working on a project that I am using a Gecko g540 and a linear rail. I needed a part for the rotating portion and checked EBAY and Amazon. They both had the part that I needed but EBAY was cheaper. The listing said that item location was Altadena CA. I live in WA. There were other sellers that also listed places like OK and TN. But since CA is only 2 days shipping to WA I decided to go with them. A day after I ordered I got notification from FedEx that a shipping document had been prepared and the estimated delivery date was 2-20 which was only 3-4 days. Yea! But as it got closer I got another notification from FedEx that shipping was from New jersey and would be 2-26. Now I know that in the winter shipments are often delayed from the east coast that why I ordered from CA. The item has been in transit since 2-25 and is stuck in ND. and only a pending date. It is now 3-1 and still no part. I had complained to EBAY help desk chat and they agreed that the seller misrepresented the location of the item and it originated in Hong Kong and they would take action. A week later I checked up on this seller and found that he is still listing item locations as CA. eBay's seller and their help desk also mislead me on their corrective action.

Locked I hate idiots 7
Are you nuts or just stupid? "Since the election, and the serious cut backs afterwards" Are you blaming the Biden admin on the postal slow down? Has nothing to do with DeJoy who crippled the USPS in spite of a serious conflict of interest supporting his shipping interests. I think it might be time to quit this group, do not need to hear from idiots like you. Or maybe the mods can censor you. On 3/1/2021 6:43 PM, Richard wrote: > Tracking has been horrible lately. Limit switch cloning. 3
I'd like to add an input to MACH3 that does exactly what a limit switch input does. I want it to switch off the ENABLE (DB25-1) but leave the charge pump running (the check box is on in the config menu). So not quite the same as the ONLINE button. I want to logically OR the servo motor fault outputs so all motion stops but power is not switched off. To do this I have to remove the FAULT input to the PMDX-126 which creates an ESTOP event and shuts off servo motor power. A limit switch type event is more appropriate for my system. I could logically combine say the Z upper limit with the fault and just settle for the incorrect error message but I'd rather have the input generate a message that says "Fault Input Active". Is there a way to do this with MACH3? Thanks John "ELS! Nothing else works as well for your Lathe" Automation Artisans Inc. www dot autoartisans dot com

ONLINE Button
I've been mucking around with handling servo motor faults connected into my PMDX-126 on my CNC mill. The PMDX-126 is configured to use the Charge Pump as is MACH3 on WIN-XP. I'd like some clarification on what the ONLINE button does. What appears to happen is if a fault occurs the PMDX-126 acts as if the ESTOP was pressed and all outputs are switched off including the Charge Pump and the ENABLE pin. (Charge Pump currently set to not stay on during ESTOP). Remove the fault and click on the RESET button and the system comes back on as do the indicators showing Charge Pump (DB25-17 output) and the Enable Pin (DB25-1 output). Now if I set Leave Charge Pump on during ESTOP and again create a fault the system shuts off. But clicking the RESET button doesn't work and reports external Estop requested. Only if I click twice on the ONLINE button does the system allow the RESET button to work. Now with the Charge Pump back the RESET switches on the ENABLE pin and the outputs are back. In both cases if I click on the ONLINE button it appears as if the Charge Pump signal is removed and then re-asserted. Have I got that right? And if I disable the Charge Pump (X in the Outputs) then the ONLINE button doesn't appear to do anything other than disable the motion keys on the keyboard. I would have thought the output pins marked as Enable_x would go false. Even a LIMIT switch will cause the Enables to go false and RESET button to blink. Remove the limit switch issue and the reset brings back the Enable. I feel the Charge Pump, especially since it's supported on the PMDX-125/126, is an absolute must. If the PC crashes things like motors that run open loop like coolant or a spindle must stop even though it uses a pin. However I'm surprised at the behavior of the ONLINE button. Why would it remove the Charge Pump and not bring the ENABLE pins low? Or is there a configuration bit I'm missing? Thanks John "ELS! Keyboard rapid 3
I have a couple of things that recently happened with my Mach 3 setup. It will no longer rapid when pressing the shift key on the keyboard. It used to work but I must have accidently changed something. The other thing that is not working is saving the position on exit. The program asks if I want to save and I click yes, but when I restart the program, it comes up with different coordinates than what I saved. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve these issues. Thanks. Vince

Controlling relays via Custom Mcode 11
I wish to control via relays, Using Mach3, VB and MK4-ET V1.5 XHC Motion card., Omron 24VDC relays. The "ON" code is M704, and content is ActivateSignal(Output4) : This works The "OFF" code is M724 and content is DeActivateSignal(Output4) Does not work.!!!!! When I trip Emg Stop outputs cease, so electrically the outputs work. I have M3/M5 set to output 3 and this works. Impression is that there is an error in the syntax, or something.????? I would appreciate any learned comment on what I am doing incorrect. Many Thanks Graham

Lathe Threading 7
Quick question. Both MACH2/3 use a 1 PPR index for threading. Don't know about MACH4. LinuxCNC requires both 1 PPR for the start of the G-Code and after that requires the multiple pulses for speed/position tracking. My understanding with LinuxCNC is that if the spindle speed changes it's detected very quickly and the Z axis velocity is changed to maintain the position relative to the spindle position. Thinking of a thread as really just a really long hypotenuse of a triangle. In other words it's tracking the spindle 'position' from the encoder pulses (in addition to velocity) and makes sure the Z follows that position. Since a 1 PPR can change speed between revolutions I would expect that MACH also just tracks speed of the spindle? What would happen if the spindle speed was changed between passes? Like you did a feed hold at the end of a pass with the tool retracted. Changed the spindle speed. Then start again. Since the acceleration is fixed does MACH calculate a new acceleration ramp to enter the existing thread at the same spot? John Dammeyer "ELS! New cnc 8
Hi, I bought a used cnc and can't get the spindle to turn on. It's a Boss cnc router 10hp spindle. It has mach3 installed on it but no other info. I've watched a lot of tutorials and changed some of the inputs and outputs etc trying to get it to run. I can manually move x y z. I can run g code. But no spindle. The fan on top of the spindle is working. I can turn the spindle on directly at the vfd, which is a V1000. The machine is 3 phase running off a 30 hp converter. The auto tool spindle release and clamp are acting in reverse, clamp drops the bit, release holds the bit. The drill block does turn on and off manually, the drill block is turning the correct direction. Since the drill block and spindle turn the correct direction I dont think the 3 phase power is the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
