Eratic A Axis using MACH3

Inputing G0 or G1 A90 or any number Via the MDI the A Axis drives erratically.

It appears to be surging or slowing up/speeding up with stops, all erratic.

As the X Y & Z axis work correctly, The Stepper drives are all OK, I have swapped them between Axes and issue always stays with the A .

Are there any settings I have missed in MACH3??

Regards

Graham

Well, there is no, “erratically slow down and speed up” setting in mach3.

?

What is your A axis? What kind of motor is on it? Can you swap that motor with one from X or Z?

?

Is this a lathe, where A is the spindle?

Sounds like something is binding somewhere.? Take it apart and clean it?

Hi Andy,
I have 3 axis Dril Mill which has been retrofitted with ballscrews etc.?
The 4th axis is a modified universal diiding head.
All 4 axes use same model steppers and drives.
Using the wireless pendant motion is smooth and good speed.
Using the MDI input is when its erratic etc.
I have swapped motors, drives and cables and issue is only the A Axis O/P from the B O Box.

Just so illogical hence my querry.

Hi Tony,
The A Axis is a modified Vertex Universal Dividing Head.
Have belt coupled stepper mounted on it.
I have disassembled,, cleaned, greased, re assembled Then spent time adjusting?so no backlash and runs smoothly
using a wireless pendant..
Its only when driving via the MDI it is erattic
????

Graham

Presumably?you've unplugged X, plugged A in its place and tried that.? And vice-versa of course.? That'd confirm the port on the?BO is ok.

MDI speed the same as the pendant?? Trying to run it too fast will do that, missed steps and all that.

Tony
