Tx-500 with dynamic heil headset? 16
Anybody got any experience using the dynamic version of the heil bm-17 with the tx-500. Most people seem to have the IC version but i wanted to be able to use the headset with my yaesu radio as well so i was wondering if the dynamic version of the heil headset worked ok with the tx-500? (Obviously connected to the dynamic input on the socket before anyone asks)

Tune knob faulting 28
I have noticed the last several times using the rig that the tuning knob is producing some unexpected behavior making me think it could going bad. When tuning up in frequency I will be watching the frequency and notice it drop by maybe 50 kHz. Have noticed this on both 40 and 20m bands. Both in the field and in the shack. Any thought or similar experiences? Joshua N5FY

New products 7
From a recent photo on the FB group, it appears that Lab599 has been busy now with three variants of the transceiver: the original Discovery TX-500, the TX-500PRO and the Altai-ATU which has no-VFO dial, programmable frequency channels and an ATU. There is also a mention of a 100W amplifier (bolt-on like the battery pack) called the RA-500 (which looks like PA-500 in Cyrillic, although not the same as the DIY599 PA-500.

RF Power adjustment - possible future addition to firmware 10
Hi all. I am wondering if it would be possible to make a change to the RF power adjustment in a future hardware update. It would be fantastic if power could be turned down even lower. At the moment the adjustment range is 10% to 100% of the maximum. I would like to experiment with power levels down to just a few mW. Is there any way the range can be altered in firmware so it's 0% to 100%? 73 M3KXZ

Data Thermals Comparison 7
How does the TX-500 compare in the area of thermal performance compared to a KX2? (Or other rig you may have experience with) I had a KX2 at one time but I didn¡¯t do any data modes with it. My FT-817 requires additional cooling to run more than 1 watt. Any experience to share? Im considering a TX-500 or KX2 purchase with a focus toward digi this time. KV4TT- Mike

New Firmware v1.16.06 26
The change log contains a one liner: Added the ability to edit memory cells using the PC application This seems a good idea, I just don't know which PC application can be used for this purpose. Does anybody has more information? 73 Stephan Update: I just saw that Lab599 posted the corresponding Windows software: > > TX-500 Memory cells programming application v1.02 (Win64) Update 2: I updated the firmware and tested the memory cell software and all seems to work as expected.

Glare from display 8
Thomas Witherspoon, K4SWL, shows in this video https://youtu.be/Kvvvx5mHLwA that glare/reflections from the TX-500 display can be a problem with display readability. I notice that my IC-7300 has more of a matte finish which lessens this problem. Anyone have thoughts/suggestions on some type of screen protector with a non-glare finish or polarization that might improve display visibility. Added benefit: Protect the display from scratches. 73, David W3GZS

TX Metr menu setting #22 2
When menu item *22 (TX Metr)* is set to display PWR, it also shows the SWR number to the right of the power graph - nice! It would also be nice if when the setting is set to SWR that it also show the PWR number to the right of the SWR graph. -- feature request. -- 73, Norm/KC1BMD

USB Power 4
My understanding is that many rigs provide power to drive a USB device (e.g. such as the FTDI CAT cable shipped with the TX-500). Does anyone know whether it's the PC or the TX-500 that provides the power? -- 73, Norm/KC1BMD

Lab 599 TX-500PRO 17
Just saw this on the lab599.ru site. Interesting features compared to the standard TX-500 Production (lab599.ru) ( http://lab599.ru/products/tproduct/525989911-402795615551-transiver-tx-500pro ) 72 Dennis W6BFK

Portable Logging Software 12
Any recommendation for portable logging software that can get frequency/band data from the TX-500 and also generate an .adif file for importing into a home station logging program? Windows or Android OS preferred. -- 73, Norm/KC1BMD

CW-500U Paddle 5
I only see the direct-attach CW-500 paddle at HRO for US sales. Any idea if the CW-500U will be available in the US too? I'd like to attach the key with a cable instead of directly attaching it to the radio. It would be nice f the base was magnetic for easy attachment but I'm not sure that's the case. https://desert-wireless.com/#!/tproduct/485074178-1662018568273 -- 73, Norm/KC1BMD

DIY599 BAT-500 3
Just an FYI for those discussing the BP-500... Oliver at DIY599 has a new battery pack design in the works call the BAT-500. The only thing available at the moment is a PDF with the specifications for the unit. There is no pricing available nor a lead time for production, however, it might be a good alternative to Lab599 BP. The BAT-500 is also setup to support the radio and the PA500 RF amplifier simultaneously. It may be an interesting alternative. Of course this is in development, but DIY599 has done a stellar job with the amplifier, so it may be worth the wait. wsjt-x, V2.6.1, Digi Rig for the Discovery 500 and a new Windows 11 Laptop. 5 #wsjtx
I have been enjoying taking the Discovery 500 to part with some long wire antennas working SSB. I had bought a Digi Rig and tried it out with my Win 10 desktop, setup worked right away and as expected. I purchased a new Win 11 laptop and set it up for some possible POTA activity on ft8 and ft4 and ran into a problem. The the audio out from the Digi Rig and the Discovery 500 is way to high, full scale on WSJTx. Lowering the the Digi Rig out in windows has no effect. WsJTx decodes but shows full scale >80 dB. The only thing that lowers it a bit is turning the rf gain all the way down. Anyone else experience this? I may be missing something. I don't understand why the reducing the audio in from the rig in windows 11 has no effect. Any help would be appreciated.

DIG vs USB mode 2
After updating TX-500 Firmware to 1.16.04, I am testing using this radio for FT8 and other digital modes. I'm using DigiRig Mobile v1.6 and have working CAT control plus audio both ways. My struggle is that I am assuming when incoming audio to the radio is via the REM/DATA port, I should be using DIG mode plus Menu 09 Gain > DIG levels. Strangely to me I had to switch back to USB mode and use Menu 09 Gain > Mic levels to adjust sound card audio levels. I've been looking back through all the post history here and in other Lab 599 groups and I'm not finding others talking about this. I do see many helpful guides simply using USB mode without explaining why. Am I just being too logical to expect digital modes would use the radio's DIG mode and related adjustments? -- Grace & peace, Tim AF6TF
