New Firmware v1.16.06

Edited

The change log contains a one liner:

Added the ability to edit memory cells using the PC application

This seems a good idea, I just don't know which PC application can be used for this purpose.

Does anybody has more information?

73 Stephan

Update: I just saw that Lab599 posted the corresponding Windows software:
TX-500 Memory cells programming application v1.02 (Win64)
Update 2: I updated the firmware and tested the memory cell software and all seems to work as expected.?

Check the pc software in the downloads folder at , the memory editor is there?

Thanks Greg, I updated my initial post after I saw it there.
Also, the firmware update and the memory cell software seems to work as intended.

Have fun!

Hey OM's;

Anyone tried this with wine/linux yet ?? i.e. WITH a regedit for redirecting the window's comport to /dev/ttyUSB0 ?

OR am I the ginny-pig for this ??

TIA

My TX500 seems to see the memory editor but doesn't write or read to it getting a TRX NOT RESPONDING. I see no documentation on using it so far. I assume it connects via the CAT port at 9600?

Pete,

I don't understand what you mean with My TX500 seems to see the memory editor...

First update the firmware, then start the editor and select the same COM port.

There you can send the memory content to the TX-500 by pressing the [Write TRX] button. It's a USB connection, no baud rate to be selected.

Hi Stephan,

I hook my USB cable to the CAT connection. The memory editor sees the radio which assigns COM3 to it. I highlight an empty memory number in the editor and enter a frequency. I press UPDATE CHANNEL and see slot 2 now shows the frequency. When I press the editor WRITE button the progress bar shows its send the information. However, when I look at the TX-500 there is nothing in memory 2. When I try and READ any memory I get TRX NOT RESPONDING. I am running Windows 10 and firmware 16.?

I'm somewhat scared to ask; but will this new app run under linux/wine ?

Not finding any instructions for Memory Edit program.? Like others, I just tried to read table from TRX and it doesn't appear to be responding.? I know my Com port (4) and can use CAT control just fine.

As an experiment, I added to the 'TRXMem'? app memories 01-23 to be the first 23 CB channels in AM mode.? It worked once I entered the frequency 'in hertz' so CB channel 1 was set to 26975000 Hz. 'Write TRX' seemed to write with no errors.? Once the write was completed I pressed the 'V/M' button and was transported to the memory channels.? Radio Menu 33 let's us choose either VFO Knob or +/- buttons as the channel scroll. 'Read TRX' now pulls the current memory list just fine.

That appears to be all we need to know.

Tim's note here led me to discover that you cannot enter periods into the memory editor. You also must enter 8 digits.
For example: I entered 10116000 in the editor, chose channel 2, CW and Pre then pressed UPDATE CHANNEL and finally WRITE TRX.
It wrote it properly 10.116.000 to memory slot 2 in TX-500. However, when I press READ TRX I am still am getting TRX NOT RESPONDING.
No sure why I cannot read memories. I have not tried filling 23 memories as that should not be necessary.
So in essence to write don't use period and be sure to enter 8 digits.

Hi Pete,

The resolution of the frequency field is in Hz, but not a fraction thereof (see the column header).

I have no idea why you get?TRX NOT RESPONDING. Mine worked perfectly from the beginning. Only tried it on Windows 10.

I would experiment with entering some data manually on the radio first and read it afterwards with the software.?

Stephan and all,

I re-downloaded and re-installed the firmware and now the memory editor is working as it should. Never had a problem with firmware downloads. However, I am going to guess that since I skipped FW 15 and the fact each firmware is a little larger that there may have been some junk or corrupted data in the ram space beyond where FW 14 was written. So maybe when I re-installed FW 16 the corruption was over-written with good data. I dunno and don't care as it works properly now.

Care to share the file for CB channels you made ... it might be a great way to test things and get started with this new software.

TIA *if* you choose to share.

Well, I was/am the ginny-pig OM's.

And yes I was able to load up the memory channels from my Manjaro (archlinux) install. <- Groovy !

Try entering the frequency in Hz (7 digits with no decimal). Alternatively, download from the radio, save the file, then edit and upload again.

as requested, here is my proven file of the first 23 CB channels in AM mode for my TX-500.

Uninformed user with a question: What is the purpose of this feature? Is it so you can store a particular frequency and get to it faster than by manually changing bands and spinning the VFO knob to the desired frequency? Also, why would someone want "CB" channels? Just curious...

Norm...?
Yes, that's exactly the purpose.

As for the CB channels, I guess that's what makes this hobby so great; We all have different interests. It's nice to see different aspects included in updates.

Cheers,
Ronan/MM0IVR?

CB channels can be handy while traveling for traffic/accident advisories (besides, 'smokey' lookout reports)

:-)
