Tx-500 with dynamic heil headset?

Anybody got any experience using the dynamic version of the heil bm-17 with the tx-500. Most people seem to have the IC version but i wanted to be able to use the headset with my yaesu radio as well so i was wondering if the dynamic version of the heil headset worked ok with the tx-500? (Obviously connected to the dynamic input on the socket before anyone asks) ??

I know there is a seperate connection for the dynamic mic but what about audio levels and audio quality. ?That was my question. ?

I use the dynamic version of the BM-17. ?I have to turn the mic gain up to about 35. ?I get great audio reports. ?I got the dynamic one simply because I didn’t pay attention to what I was ordering, but it was simple to fabricate the appropriate cable to use the dynamic mic input.?

Thanks Trevor, that's good to know. Was the adaption any more than just using pin 2 as the input?

Ian

Also curious how you got your Heil BM-17 connected to the TX-500

Using pin 2 is the only change. The Lab599 website has a PDF just for adapter cable pinouts. When I get back home I’ll post a few pictures of the cable I put together with integrated PTT.?

W2ENY has a great adapter that goes from gx12 to mic/headphones/ptt.?

I really like his one with the PTT integrated in the radio cable.? I got the PTT on Amazon.? Ended opening it up to rewire it and completely replaced the cable that goes to the radio (I think the original cable didn't have enough conductors).? It uses a U174 plug for the headset connector on the side of the PPT body.? I didn't want to chop off the factory plugs on the headset so I tracked down a U174 plug (from Anixter or Digi-Key I think) and built a cable with speaker and mic jacks.

Then I built a more compact adapter.? It's pretty similar to what W2ENY sells, in fact I use his PTT cable because it feel great.

Thanks Trevor, ?you made a nice job of those. ?I think I will probably start with rewiring the adaptor that came with the tx-500 as I won't have any other use for it but it does look a little fragile but I guess time will tell.?

Could you share the link to the PTT from Amazon? Or, maybe what the title is? I can't find it.

Sorry if this has already been answered but does the IC version work straight out of the box?

The ic version works great but you’ll need the W2ENY adapter and push to talk. With that it’s all plug and play?

If I remember correctly

it does work straight out of the box, however the wiring of the sockets on the OEM headset adapter was not standard and required a stereo male to mono female 3.5mm adapter.?

I did that, then purchased the W2ENY adapter and trigger which works straight away and is way more robust than the OEM version?

love the BM-17 ic !

Durability trick for the labels: wrap them with clear heat shrink.? Really looks professional, too!
