Welcome!!
Welcome! This group is primarily for discussing my scripts and how to configure them for different setups. However, all Raspberry Pi conversation is encouraged. Please be respectful at ALL TIMES. Let's try to help one another out without demeaning anyone. I will jump in and answer as many questions as I can but may not be able to respond to everyone. It is near impossible for me to help setup a radio that I don't own and have no experience with. By building community, others with similar setups may be able to offer a helping hand. This is the purpose of community. Fix for Conky background on Pi (Wayland)
From this post - /g/KM4ACK-Pi/message/13625 credit - Robert Nazro These changes should be made in the .conkyrc file found in your home directory. Note the "." in front of the file name. This indicates that it is a hidden file. OK changing the gap-y =10 to: gap_y = 50, moved the conky box down below the task bar. That change along with: own_window = true, own_window_type = 'normal', own_window_transparent = false, own_window_hints = 'undecorated,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager,below', own_window_colour = '#000000', own_window_argb_visual = true, own_window_argb_value = 0, Note: I edited the last value to 0 instead of his recommended 15. -- 73, de KM4ACK YouTube | Tip Jar Twitter | Store Patreon

Need help with Pi and USB card/device changing at reboot
Good morning, I have watched a lot of your YouTube videos, but I need help with something I can't seem to find a good clear answer on. If my raspberry pi reboots it consistently changes the card/device info, causing. Direwolf, YAAC, digirig, and my GPS module to all not work properly. Direwolf loses the device *,* because it changes. Then I have to edit direwolf.conf and it starts but sudden goes from RTS PTT to VOX. And it hangs my GPS in a loop and causes YAAC to show my location at N0 W0. If you have any answers or code that resolves these things please let me know. I am not a Linux expert at all, but I am an electronics technician so I do understand most technical things. Thank you, Mike NZ4K

Setting up Pat Winlink on my pi: wrong port for flrig?
2
Good morning, I am working on setting up Pat Winlink with ardop, and I have run into a few interesting issues. Firstly, when I installed the various applications, I have to wonder if I had some sort of error because ardopc wasn't really installed. I had to manually go get piardopc from the creator's site, which wasn't a problem. Now that it's installed, it seems to start up OK and the gui attaches to it, and I even get data on the little waterfall in the ardop gui. Immediately thereafter, Pat Winlink opens up in a browser. In the console at the bottom is the error message: 2025/04/23 09:27:06 Unable to get frequency from rig my-rig: dial tcp 127.0.0.1:4532: connect: connection refused. To me, this looks like pat winlink has failed to connect to my rig control. Now, my assumption is that we are using FLRig for rig control. Pat Menu would not let me start the ardop modem without starting FLRig first, in fact, which is why I made this assumption. However, when I dig into my FLRig configuration, it's running xmlrpc on port 12345. Finally, when I dig into the config settings in pat menu, I see a rig control command of: /usr/local/bin/rigctl -m 4 This is interesting... what is this used for? I've tried executing that in a terminal and there is again no binary of that name at that location. Is there a package I am missing that I should install? It's my understanding that this command comes along for the ride when you install the hamlib libraries, but it's possible again that something failed to install. Is this something I need to fix? Is there a way to change the port that Pat Winlink is trying to connect to, should I change FLRig's port, or am I totally misunderstanding what's happening here and need to do something else? Thanks, Donn KD9WZZ

Botspot Windows 11 on Pi
5
I just discovered this effort: https://github.com/Botspot/bvm If this works, it could be a great way to avoid the Wine headaches on ARM architectures like the Pi, allowing use of Vara, Winlink Express, and other Windows programs on a Pi. Coincidentally, I also found this at the same time: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows11arm64 . Looks like an official Microsoft effort to run on ARM architectures. I haven¡¯t tried either yet. -- --- Steve Johnson K0OIL

Modifying weather.txt
3
Good morning, I am trying to set up the weather.txt so that I can select areas in Canada. By default, Pat only has US locations. I have found the weather.txt file and added the information to get the weather where I live but in the menu selection it still shows LAS VEGAS where I put in the city where I live. Suggestions on how to fix this? Is there another file that I need to modify? TIA 73 Chris - VE6TNO

Trying clean install of 73 Linux and no WINE under it. Discovered Pi-Apps. Pretty neat. But won't install WINE completely on my Pi 4. Should I start all over again with 32 bit? Thanks, KM6QAQ 73 Sent from AOL on Android

Building a Pi with pat winlink and hotspot
2
Mostly, I need pat winlink, and hotspot capability. But other programs might be needed to like flrig, ardop, and other related programs, so the question is: Is the latest (bookworm) ok, or do I need to go with legacy (bullseye) ? ROTCTLD in hamlib having issues
I am trying to get ROTCTLD to connect my Rotor and I keep getting failures. I checked and made sure that the rotor was connected as: /dev/ttyUSB0 The GETHUB for the AntRunner Rotor just had the command : rotctld -vvvvv -m 2401 -r /dev/ttyUSB0 The rotor works with hamlib on my windows laptop and with Gpredict on the lap, as well. I'm sure that i am missing something simple. The rotor is listed in hamlib as 2401 BG5DIW GRBLTRK via Serial 20220515.0 Beta ROT_MODEL_GRBLTRK_SER 2402 BG5DIW GRBLTRK via Net 20220515.0 Beta ROT_MODEL_GRBLTRK_NET Any help is greatly appreciated. Raspberry pi op sys version

VARAFM with Yaesu FTM500 video question
7
Trying to set up CAT controlled radio with VARA fm in Linux Mint. Do I use CAT setting in VARA or Comm? It seems to be doing dual duty on with FLrig. Tried to disable FLrig (RIG control) in pat config but then PAT doesn't read frequency of radio nor give me a green freq indication in channel setup. I also note after setting up comm ports properly that the transmit is picking up audio of my laptops internal mic instead of from VARA through my rigirig. I switched setting to Intel PCH and it works as it should. Something is switched up in WINE I believe. KM6QAQ Sent from AOL on Android

VARA FM issue for CAT rigs
Jason, If I set up PTT for CAT 9600 8 N 1 RTS my Kenwood TS-2000 with Digirig goes into transmit when I close that window. I get it to stop transmitting by clicking TUNE in sound card. I hear one tone beep on an external HT. Subsequent clicks yield proper red light indication for transmit on rig but background noise from my laptops internal mic. There is a software glitch that is doing this. I did your WINE com port 10 dos devices fix. I note that within LM Sound the USB ports don't show so I've been adjusting audio levels in Alsamixer. Receive audio seems fine. It's just transmit our digirig out that is messing up. KM6QAQ

Direwolf/YAAC
2
I¡¯m setting up APRS on my laptop running Linux mint set up with 73 Linux. I¡¯m using Direwolf and YAAC. It seems to decode everything except beacons from aprsdroid using a B-tech UV-pro with the Bluetooth TNC. When my digipeater running on the raspberry PI repeats the beacon from aprsdroid the laptop will decode it but it will not decode it directly. The laptop will decode from aprsdroid on a different tablet using a uv5r and a b tech k1 cable, it decodes from my windows desktop using pinpoint APRS Direwolf and a uv5r with a digirig. Am I missing something?
