These changes should be made in the .conkyrc file found in your home directory. Note the "." in front of the file name. This indicates that it is a hidden file.

OK changing the gap-y =10 to:
gap_y = 50,
moved the conky box down below the task bar.
That change along with:
own_window = true,
own_window_type = 'normal',
own_window_transparent = false,
own_window_hints = 'undecorated,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager,below',
own_window_colour = '#000000',
own_window_argb_visual = true,
own_window_argb_value = 0,

Note: I edited the last value to 0 instead of his recommended 15.
