JS8call Utilities by M0IAX
I'm running a HP Raspberry PI OS loaded with W1BAW branched off of KM4ACK. I have GPS Updater picking up my GPS. However in the settings of the JS8call Utilities. I have GPSD chosen. I'm not getting fixed yet Conky is getting my Grid. FYI I'm on 20 m using an indoor Mag Loop. I have aGPS repeater with a passive antenna next to the USB GPS in my HP. 73 Don? Data? ?VA7DGP Voice? I don't own the G90 so hopefully an actual owner will jump in here. From my experience with other radios, I would think you should use the USB-FTDI option. There may be something that you need to configure/enable in the radio menus for everything to work correctly.

Re: #IC-705 - Connectivity for Digital
#IC-705
The RS-BA1 software is Windows only. If you want to start with the Pi, I would recommend a plain USB cable between the Pi and the radio. This single cable will handle CAT (rig control), DATA, and GPS. Get familiar with that setup and then branch out to learn more about your radio/computer combination.

G90/CE-19 Flrig Connection
Hi KM4ACK et al.,
Thanks for all the great videos. I just ran build-a-pi on my Pi 3 B+. Worked great. Now trying to set up flrig according to your instructions, but can't seem to figure out which COM port to use. I have both the USB sound card and the data cable plugged into a USB hub, which is plugged into the pi. In the Flrig dropdown list, there's only one listed as serial, which doesn't seem to work, and then about 50 other options that start with "tty." (See attached photo) Is there a way to determine which port is right? I've tried almost all of them with no success.? Thanks to all for your help! KC1QYB |
You have to update your grid square in Pat before it will show you the new RMS stations. You can do it in Pat Menu->Manage Pat Winlink. From there, you have two options. GPS update or manual update. Once you do one of those, the RMS stations should update in the pat mailbox.
Now, if you want to update the list in Pat Menu, then choose Find Winlink Gateways from the main screen. Then choose Recalculate Distance and Bearings. The only time you really need to use this option is if you want to add an alias or if you plan to use the Pat Auto Connect feature in Pat Menu. -- 73, de KM4ACK

If I use PAT Menu to Stop Modems then to Start Packet Modem, then I get one more connection, with subsequent attempts failing as above. This is a known bug in the ax25 stack in Linux. Right now, the only option is to stop the modem before attempting a second connection. Glad to hear that Pat Menu is working as it should :-) Pat Menu was written to help simplify the Winlink connection process in Linux. It starts everything in the correct order in the background instead of the operator having to start each item manually. -- 73, de KM4ACK

1. As requested, here is the current output from arecord -l (it is unchanged from what I wrote earlier in this thread): pi@rpi:~ $ date; sudo arecord -l

2. I haven't installed any GPS-related software on the Pi. 3. The ICOM radios IC-7300, IC-9700, and IC-705 should be very similar for their providing digital audio in/out and rig control on a single USB cable. So I searched in this group for advice on Pat/winlink with the IC-705 and found a post with these instructions: (/g/KM4ACK-Pi/message/6858) Verify that the ¡°#¡± is removed in the direwolf.conf file for this line: PTT RIG 2 localhost:4532 Now that we have FLRIG configured, let¡¯s start the rig control daemon: /usr/local/bin/rigctld -m 4 Note the ¡°d¡± at the end of rigctl in the above command. Now we can start direwolf and shouldn¡¯t have any errors. /usr/local/bin/direwolf -p 4. I shut down the Pi, turned off the radio, turned it back on, then rebooted the Pi. 5.?/usr/local/bin/rigctld -m 4?returns errors as follows; likewise with "-m 3081" (the model number for my radio, IC-9700): pi@rpi:~ $ date; sudo /usr/local/bin/rigctld -m 4

iofunc.c(81):port_open return(-6)
rig.c(800):rig_open return(-6) (null) No such file or directory?
6. Given those failures, I tried again what seemed (partly) to work over the weekend, which is just to launch "flrig", which returned no error messages. 7. The flrig gui can read and change the dial frequency, can operate PPT, etc., so that all looks good so far. Direwolf -p? returned some errors but didn't fail entirely: pi@rpi:~ $ date; direwolf -p

8. Going now to PAT, which partly worked yesterday, today it fails entirely to connect using AX.25 and "packet" dropdown, reporting "QSY failed: unable to get rig frequency: dial tcp 0.0.0.0:4532: connect: connection refused"This line in direwolf.conf is not commented out:? "PTT RIG 2 localhost:4532: I have re-verified that flrig GUI can in fact read and change dial freq., operate PTT, etc.
I feel like it's one step forward; two steps backwards. Sorry I'm not navigating this successfully on my own, despite reading and watching lots. 73, Bob AK6KA |

Re: Audio levels on Build a Pi
I assume you are referring to FT8? The example I show below is from JS8Call with Pulse Audio but it should work the same in FT8. Note the volume control is called "QTPulseAudio" and only shows up after opening FT8/JS8Call. On my Pi using the 705, adjusting this slider will reduce the incoming audio levels (See images below). It works the same for the 891 using a sabrent sound card.

Run this command and post the results please:
arecord -l This will output the sound card number. Just want to verify that it's 3,0. By chance did you install the GPS software with BAP? If so, also run the following: cat /etc/default/gpsd and post the results. This will show the settings being used for the GPS. Seems weird but more than once the GPS has interfered with the sound card on an Icom rig. -- 73, de KM4ACK

Audio levels on Build a Pi
Greetings, I'm running the latest build-a-pi on a Pi 3B+. I was out doing a POTA activation both yesterday and today and I noticed that my RX audio level was in the red (above 70 dB).? I opened the Pulse Audio volume control and adjusted the volume slider on the recording tab downward and didn't have any change in the RX level.? I can't adjust the radio as the volume level as the AF level is set to 1 and the next step is 0... The radio is a KX--3 and the sound card is a Logitech USB sound card that came with a headset that was purchased eons ago.? I do have a Sabernt USB sound card but It would require me to have to completely rewire my cable bundle to the radio... Any suggestions on how to fix this? ? 72, Jocelyn GouldAE8JG EM89mo KX3 # 11234 NAQCC # 7704 OMISS # 9948 4sqrp # 990 FP # 3579 |
