I just got down from the high sierra. We ran into thunderstorms for the first four days. We got rained on at Kearsarge lakes on Monday. Most people in my group got soaked.?
Tuesday, thunder started at 11am, so we halted at Charlotte lake. Major thunder in the afternoon.?
We should have crossed Forester on Wednesday, but given the forecast, we decided to change course and went over Glen Pass to Rae lakes. Again, got rained on in the evening.?
We day hikes to 60 lakes basin on Thursday and made it before it rained again.?
It finally cleared yesterday, we made our way back to Onion valley after a stop in Kearsarge lakes.?
Last year, hurricane Hillary happened when I attempted this section :).?
I will try again next year.?

San Joaquin versus up and over
Just spoke to rangers and my piute pass permit only allows the up and over route or crossing San Joaquin near out bridge. Any advice on which to do. For the up and over route where can I find details on it?

Cancelled permits are usually released soon after the user cancels them, e.g. the same day, but timing isn't always easy to pin down.? Inga

We have 3 participating now. I think we can add 2 or maybe more (the 3 of us are only shipping 4 or 5-day resupplies).

Bishop Pass Permit 9/4/24
I cancelled a Bishop Pass permit for one on September 4 a few minutes ago. It has not appeared as available yet. I think that the system might release it at 10 am Eastern/7 am Pacific. Since the JMT trailheads are booked up for that date, I thought I'd post here hoping that someone who can use it grabs the permit when it shows up. Of course, there is another big opportunity for permits when the two week window arrives and Inyo releases what were formerly called "walk up" permits.?

We were at Charlotte Lake over the holiday weekend and day-hiked to Glenn Pass on the 5th.
Zero snow on the south side, one small snow field on the north side, easily crossed without any special gear.
All that should be completely gone by now.

going in near Fin Dome and no one else for 2 days.
