When I did the JMT in 2020, we took a zero day pretty deep into Sixty Lakes Basin. Tons of options back there. We even saw some Bighorn sheep. Other options include Dragon Lake and less off the beaten path, Charlotte Lake. Happy trails!

also, was wondering if there’s any sweet camping spots in the Rae Lakes area off the beaten path..
