Re: HT-37 transformer failure due to rapid STBY-->OFF-->STBY
(second post on Aug 3 2024 Pacific Time)
I looked for but did not observe HV secondary voltage changes correlated with the current surge related to transformer core remanence. So, I tried to generate

Don, I think you were onto something.
I made a few changes to the setup since the previous session. I used to have just one of the low-voltage secondaries loaded. Now, the 6.3 V secondary is loaded

Re: Radiotron Designers Handbook, 4th Edition
Thanks for posting that link Jim!
The copy I had was not scanned using an OCR and thus wasn't searchable.
Also, with the chapters, you can click on the section you want and it goes there

Re: Very Nice 8R-40 Incoming!
Seems to be a "gussied up" S-40B.? This is labeled? Run 2 and was built Sep 17, 1953.? I've started r-capping it and will finish up when my cap stock is replenished next week.? My wife actually

If I recall properly, the SX-17 had variations with time of build, and eventually became an sx-18. I wonder if it is

Despite its age this continues to be a very useful and

Re: Hallicrafters SX17 modifier noise limiter
You may want to look at "The Radiotron Designer's Handbook" 4th edition, chapter 16, section 7, p.694 ff. which has a fairly comprehensive survey of noise limiters as used in AM receivers. The Lamb

Re: Hallicrafters SX17 modifier noise limiter
I pulled down the user manual for the SX18 and had a look at the circuit. It looks to be much simplified to the SX17. Only one RF stage, no noise limiter. It uses a 6Q7 rather than 6R7 in the last

Re: S-38B Tuning Shaft Query
A little research shows farm windmills are mostly used to pump water. I could find nothing on power generating but likely they exist. I spent some time in the Michigan countryside when I was a kid.

Re: S-38B Tuning Shaft Query
I think you are right. Those familiar windmills could be generators or water pumps. If generators they were probably used to charge batteries. Oh well, another subject for research.

Jim, a very well written interesting article .. thanks
Did anyone in NA make a 250 volt AC/dc radio? I¡¯m not going to try searching.

Yes the C was the one that changed to a separately wired B- rather than using the chassis. I thought before it was the D but was wrong. Using the separately wired return allows complete isolation
