Seems that the railroad was already using 32 volt bulbs in passenger cars.? I have some 32 volt light bulbs, forgot where I got them, most likely found in an auction lot.

I think you are right. Those familiar windmills could be generators
or water pumps. If generators they were probably used to charge
batteries. Oh well, another subject for research.
There were certainly many farm radios running on batteries.
