Jim,? you are about half right. Imagine a single wafer switch with fixed resistors at various points, that is the TONE half of the? switchan the same shaft is an SPST switch like on the back half of a pot/switch unit.? Here is the best picture I have. You see the front wafer clearly. It is the back hafl, indicated in red that has failed. It is not like a function switch in a DX-60 where the AC is switched through the wafers.? The TONE part works fine. The simplest solution would be to jump the SPST contacts making the power cord hot all the time and plug the radio into a power strip.

Re: Hallicrafters SR-400 Cyclone Parts for Sale

Greetings to the Group:
?
I have discovered a couple of errors in the previous list of SR-400 parts that I have for sale.
?
I found two additional controls and also corrected a spelling error.?? Please find the corrected list attached.?? I apologize for the errors and the double posting.
?
Thank You for looking.

Re: 60A225 power/tone switch

The haze is starting to lift...? The power switch portion Emil is referring to was inop on my S-40.? I removed it from the rotary switch and took it apart.? What I found was a little tab broken off that actuated the switch mechanism.? I was able to fabricate a suitable tab and solder it to the remaining part and it then reached the switch mechanism.? Kinda hard to describe but if you take the switch apart it is readily apparent how it operates.? I wish I had taken pics but I didn't think I would ever need any of this "kludge."

Re: 60A225 power/tone switch

Don - Not a very good one but here is a pic of the front panel and another showing the switch.? This had a toggle switch wired in for power since the original switch was busted.? I think I removed the toggle and fixed the switch but I have slept many times since then.? The pic of the back of the switch was before I wired it back up...

Those are the rivets, previously mentioned, that connect the external solder lugs to the internal switch contacts.? Notice the tarnish on the rivets, they are not as bright as the finish on the solder lugs.? Once the interface resistance between the rivet and the lug reaches a?sufficiently high value, the switch is permanently open.? A little wire brushing, bit of solder paste and a touch of solder will restore a low resistance contact.

Yes Emil, I guess, when I saw the image, I just decided to be sure about the appearance of a rivet . The ones on your wafer switch won’t be the same.

That's looks like a switch and a pot. It might could be made to work, but that is not what is supposed to be there.? The original component has a rotary switch wafer with fixed resistors for the tone control with an SPST mounted with it.

Maybe I'm confused (often am) but on my S-40 I seem to remember the tone/Pwr switch to be a "wafer switch" with Off, Hi, Med, and Lw settings...

Re: 60A225 power/tone switch

Greetings to the Group:
?
I also would like to acquire a Hallicrafters part number 60A225 power/tone switch.?? However, I would like to find one with a defective AC switch.?? These switches are becoming very difficult to find and are subject to failure due to current surge and simple wear.??
?
I think it might be possible to replace the original AC switch with a microswitch held in place by a 3-D printed bracket and actuated by a 3-D printed cam.?? If so, there would be an almost unlimited supply of repair parts for the troublesome AC portion of the switch assembly.?? Of course, in order to engineer this, I would need a sample switch, and I am not going to take my own S-85 apart just to experiment!??? ;^)
?
I am good in QRZ if someone wants to donate a defective switch assembly.?? Note:?? I only want a bad one; I do not wish to take a serviceable part out of circulation.
?
Thanks and 73,
