Joining Anomaly 8
Hi Folks, I moderate a group which I don't own, and have the account set up so anyone wanting to join requires approval, which comes through me and at least one other person. I recently received notification that 'so and so' has joined your group... but I never received an approval request prior to his joining. I've checked with the others who also have admin privileges in this group, and they didn't get a join request notification either. Looked a little more closely and found this: I'm guessing *someone* issued a direct invitation to join the group. I have a couple of questions: first, why aren't group moderators pulled "into the loop" when a someone issues a direct invite, or when the invitee accepts that invitation and becomes a member? Second, why is the person who issued the invitation not indicated? I'm in a situation where I'm charged with keeping on top of things with this group, and I find myself with no idea of how this person obtained admission to the group. I've checked all the settings for this group (the ones that are available to me, at least), and didn't see anything pertaining to permissions to directly invite someone to join the group, or notifying group moderators of this fact. I DO see that only group owners and/or moderators can issue join invitations, so at least I don't have to worry that group members can be issuing invitations to anyone and bypassing group moderators altogether. My concern here is not that *I* have been somehow bypassed, it's that such a bypass can happen at all; it's definitely created concern that someone may have found a back door into this group at least, and maybe others. Wondering if this is someone exploiting an unnoticed vulnerability or loophole. Any thoughts / clarifications greatly appreciated! Karl

Sent Invitations sort order 3
Hi, I noticed that the "Sent Invitations" list does not by default show recent transactions, and even if sorted by "Invited" the entries are not strictly in order. Is this intended? Attached are two screenshots, showing the default view and after clicking the "Invited" column header twice (the first time sorts oldest first). Note in the sorted view the most recent transactions are in the 1st and 4th positions, separated by Accepted and Expired entries from days or weeks in the past. -Jim

Members no longer able to upload files ? Do not the the "Green" button 7
Hello our group has a premium plan but I just learned today that members do not see the "green button" for uploading files in the file section. I still see it and did not realize there is a problem. Our account is up to date and we have a premium plan and are nowhere near the max storage limits. Any suggestions? I have been searching "upload" in the message archive and have checked "owners manual" Thank you John Abbott eternity2 users group

Members being erroneously unsubscribed 9
Has anyone else seen this? I've had a number of members who were somehow unsubscribed through no intervention of their own, nor by any of the moderators. Yesterday it happened again. I asked the member if she had gone to her settings page on the web and she said no. Yet the activity log entry says "name <email address> left via web." She received a message saying You have been unsubscribed from [email protected]. You will receive no more emails from that group. If this was a mistake, you can resume your subscription within the next 7 days by clicking the following link: Resume Subscription Regards, The [email protected] Moderator I am mystified. Pete

Direct add members 30
Although receiving an invitation and simply replying to the invite is embarrassingly easy to do, I have some wanna be subscribers who just cannot seem to master it. Is there a way to direct subscribe new members?

Changing the owner that appears in the invitation message. 3
Azure Standard is an organic food supplier that makes monthly drops all over. I set up the group AzureTivoliDrop list so that Drop member can talk together. I have build other groups and did this for the drop organizer, Mary. Having created the drop, I am its owner, and I made Mary also owner. How do I change the invitation message create when I created the group so that it denotes Mary TD <tivolidrop@...> as the person sending the invitation message.

Group description cannot be changed 5
Friends, I am certain that I used to be able to amend the blurb which describes my Group. I have looked high and low on the left hand menus. No mention of edit. Is this a new thing? I cannot imagine that I am the only group owner who wants to tweak the blurb describing the group. Any help would be welcomed, Dan (owner of mwmasts)

A user needs advice on how to stop having to sign in on her iPhone to read emails 3
Hello Groups.io Managers Forum! Could someone suggest a fix for this problem? I don¡¯t know if iCogroups Admin is a groups.io reference or for her server admin? I recently changed my preference from the individual messages coming through to a daily summary and since then, on my iPhone, I am prompted to enter my password and email for ICOgroups every time. I can open up the individual messages in the daily summary on my Mac fine without having to enter my password and email address. I have also checked my settings on my phone. I have changed my settings so that my log info is saved however, a prompt still pops up and I still have to click in the email field and then click autofill, before I can access any individual messages in the summary list. My Safari browser Block All Cookies is toggled off as another possible cause listed in the things to check guidance. For the final point to check, it states: 5. Contact iCogroups Admin ? If none of the above work, the email list might have specific security settings requiring frequent re-authentication on mobile devices. Reach out to their support team to see if they can adjust settings for your account. I wondered if this could be the cause since I changed the way I receive the messages? I know you are a very busy lady but I would be so grateful if you could please check for me as it is a little frustrating. Many thanks, Erica (Hastings Creatives moderator)

Badges for new/unread messages 7
Didn't the Groups view previously display an indicator (bullet?) on the Group(s) that have unread messages? Each group Feed view does, but it requires opening up each Group to see if there are unread messages. Kinda inefficient/PITA to do that and I **thoughr** I recalled that my Groups page indicated which Group(s) had new posts waiting. Am I misremembering about that? Ken

File edit permissions question 2
Hi group managers, I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to change file access permissions without changing a members role. Our issue is that we would like everyone in our group to have full access (edit, delete, etc) to any file stored in our group, but we don't want to make everyone admins to do that since we still want to keep our administration for the rest of the group to a core group of folks. Looking at file settings there aren't many options, so I'm guessing this isn't possible, but figured I'd ask here to see if there might be a good workaround. Thanks!

New Members only see new messages 3
Is it possible to allow new members to only see and have access to new messages after they join? Currently new members who join have access to the history of messages and I would like to limit it to only new messages. Thanks in advance.

Mangling the sender address for some people 13
A member of one on my groups is having a problem: Some members (but not others) who post to the group have their sender addresses change from abc@... to abc@.... This causes them to go to his spam folder. It's impractical for folks to have to whitelist every member, and in fact, they might not know that that they're not seeing all the posts to a group (which is what happened with the member). I presume that this a holdover from some earlier situation and that groups.io is doing this mangling. When I post, it doesn't change my address. I have a some questions: - What was the original reason this was done? - What determines which members get this "treatment"? - Does this still need to be happening? Cal

How to create searchable database from message archive? Would AI work to summarize messages? Suggestions please 3 #MessageArchive #download #search
I have a groups question. Our group was moved from Yahoo early on in Groups existance and we have archived about 7 5,ooo emails since 2002 from that group. The group is made up of people with a cause of high blood pressure that can be cured by surgery about 50% of the time. I have been researching this cause (called primary aldosteronism or PA) for over 60 years. For some time I have hoped that there was a way to summarize these emails and extract information from our ~1,300 patients who have visited/emailed us to say extract the most common complaint, age onset etc out of these emails. This is probably the largest group of patient with this disease in the world. I am wondering if this can be done using AI as others (before AI) have told me it would be too costly to do this. This could make a significant contribution to our knowledge of PA and perhaps improve diagnosis and management for new patients using this archived experience. If your team cannot help perhaps you can direct me to someone who can. Thanks CE Grim MD Mod's note: Subject line changed. The original was attached to a thread about moving from Google Groups: "A comment on GG archive transfer & a question about searching".

Too strict a spam filter 14
I am new to managing Groups.io groups. I set up a subgroup that allowed non members to post. I sent a message from a non member account and got this message. Non-member [email protected] attempted to send message "Precinct 8 subgroup test" and the message was rejected because it was determined to be spam via email How do I make the spam filter less strict or alternatively give me a change to review the messages and decide it they show be posted. is address reverification still taking place? 14
Does anyone know if there is likely to be any further action with the address reverification? It seems like nothing has really happened, or even been mentioned since March. I still have a handful of addresses on my lists that haven't completed the process. I sent emails to them earlier in the year, but never heard anything from any of them. I suspect the addresses are no longer in use. I'm inclined to remove the remaining addresses from my lists. Does anyone know of any reason I shouldn't do that? Originally it was said that these addresses would be removed by the system after some amount of time. It seems to me that more than enough time has gone by. Jonathan
