Isn't?ARCP 480 for kenwood only? you could also try FLRig, also needs a serial adapter.? Thanks Dan KC2STA On Mon, Jul 8, 2024 at 9:11?AM Ron Jakubowski via <k2rj=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Another buttons issue, and no audio
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks Ronald,? That's why I was trying to be as detailed as possible. I noted in the manual the reported effect on the S meter when
turning down the gain, so I probably should have reported that
turning the gain adjustment knob had no effect on the S meter on
my radio (or anything else for that matter).? Another clue that
something is functionally wrong. I'll investigate the remote control option. 73, Steve KF8KI On 7/8/2024 9:10 AM, Ron Jakubowski via

Re: Another buttons issue, and no audio
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýA couple clues you mentioned¡ ? S meter at S9+++ might indicate that the RF Gain is turned down. ?RF gain shares the squelch knob.? You also might try downloading the ARCP 480 remote control program and get yourself (or borrow) a USB-RS232 cable (RT Systems version always works¡Cheaper versions found on Amazon or Ebay might not.) ? Also, the MTune means that it is in memory mode and tuning from a memory channel. ? 73 & good luck! ? Ronald Jakubowski K2RJ ? |

Yours looks to be an 857D like mine. Emailing customer support will get you full confirmation. Yaesu still supports these.? Juan On Sun, Jul 7, 2024, 19:09 Steve Weigold <steve@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks Juan, I don't see an actual DIP (as in an IC) socket.? I do see that the module along the left chassis wall is plugged in to the main board though.? Guessing this is an 857D from the factory then? 73, Steve KF8KI On 7/7/2024 6:55 PM, Juan Jim¨¦nez

Re: Another buttons issue, and no audio
If the circuit board has a DIP socket on the top of the board, lower left as seen from the front, it is an 857. If it has a chip on the socket it's been upgraded to an 857D. If it has no socket, it was an 857D from the factory. 73, K1CPR Juan On Sun, Jul 7, 2024 at 3:16?PM Steve Weigold <steve@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýApologies to the mods.? I overlooked that the new guy is moderated. Some additional details since I sent the first message.? I have opened the cover of the control head.? All of the buttons seem to be functioning properly, as in, none seem "stuck".? The circuit board is in good condition with no apparent damage. 73, Steve KF8KI On 7/7/2024 6:07 PM, Steve Weigold

Hi All, - I've read through all the buttons related questions I can find. My issue doesn't quite match any of them - No, it's not locked - Yes, I have cleaned the control head contacts - Yes, I have swapped the control head cable Now that those are out of the way, I have an 857 I just got that supposedly, HF worked and VHF/UHF worked but had low TX power. It's been sitting in a closet for a while. I'm not sure if it's an 857 or an 857D and I'm not clear on how to tell the difference. I've powered it up, and I find that most of the buttons don't work and other than the power up sound and a beep if I use power or the mic FST button, there's no sound.? Short press on power or press of mic FST both get the running man and fast tune (and the associated beep).? The knob works.? The radio powers up in 40m and I can scroll up and down the band.? I'd expect to get at least some static sound. That's all I can do.? No amount of button fondling causes anything else to happen. I've seen the discussion about resistor issues on the board near the mic connector.? I don't see any damage on visual inspection in that area.? I've also tried both with and without the mic connected (an MH-31).? No change. I've also tried the power it down, press power to drain caps, short power wires together to fully discharge, etc.? No change. * I have attempted factory reset with home pressed on power up. The radio does not reset.? I've watched a YT video showing the process and the additional sound that is heard on a reset does not occur. On a related note, my display looks a little different in content than the video I watched ().? Mine shows power supply voltage, the s-meter at left is showing full scale S9++ and shows MTUNE, in case any of that is relevant. Nothing else is connected to the radio beyond power and the mic. Ideas? Thanks! Steve, KF8KI |

Re: 857D Buttons Inoperative
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýRemove the control head again and, with a Q-tip and/or cloth saturated with Deoxit, clean any and all contacts you can get to. That the buttons "worked for a minute" sounds to me like a possible oxidation issue, especially so given the age of these radios. 73, Kent K9ZTV On Jul 6, 2024, at 6:20?AM, Seammus via groups.io <Seammus@...> wrote:

Re: 857D Buttons Inoperative
Try a different cable. If the problem persists your might have a bad control head. Replacements are readily available. On Sat, Jul 6, 2024, 07:20 Seammus via <Seammus=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: 857D Buttons Inoperative
Thanks k1prc.? I did as you advised.? Removed the cover, blew out the dust with a can of air, inspected what I could see and reassembled.? It worked..for a minute.? But, it didn't last and went back to my original complaint.

Re: 857D Buttons Inoperative
Remove the control head from the chassis, disconnect the head cable and check for dust or other debris/damage. Reconnect and ensure proper seating. On Mon, Jul 1, 2024, 17:04 Seammus via <Seammus=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: How to assemble a Collins filter + Board for FT-857 and save $$$!!!
I found a filter I think I can use. Specs are 455 khz USB, 250 hz BW @ 2dB down, 3.2 khz BW @ 50 dB down, 9dB insertion loss. I bought the last one the seller had. Do these specs make sense for a CW filter for the 857D? I can always sell it if it's not, but didn't want to miss it if it's correct.

Re: How to assemble a Collins filter + Board for FT-857 and save $$$!!!
Ok. I will see if I can find one of those two. So far I have only found the YF-122CN's in Japan at pretty high prices, and nine of the individual filters. I tried Collins, they said no stock. But that was obviously a long shot hail mary. Thanks!? 73, Juan K1CPR On Tue, Jun 25, 2024, 09:18 Jack T. - AA?IZ <jacktreloar@...> wrote: You could operate with a 200Hz width, just like a 300Hz filter. You could operate with a 200Hz width, just like a 300Hz filter. These are handy when you are trying to isolate one station right next to another.
Filters do present some insertion loss, so you would be attenuating the signal you are trying to line up within the 200Hz notch. If the station is strong this would not be noticeable. Who knows. It would be fun to experiment with it. Go for it! |
Re: Substitute mike
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMy pleasure. I went from a Kenwood TS-520SE to a Drake TR-4C to the FT-897D. A hybrid to tubed to a computer. I love the 857D/897D but was surprised at the learning curve. I learned all of this from many people, and decided to put the site up to help others hoping they could get in the air quicker. The website is a little long in the tooth. This month I'm going to start a new website to replace it. The information will stay on it and I will add more information on other radios I have. 73, --Hank KB4MTO / TA5ZC hamradio.hanklambert.com On June 24, 2024 11:28:37 AM EDT, "Adoni Poledicha via groups.io" <kg5whc@...> wrote: Hank, |
