do away with the fuse in the negative line not neededIt kind of is. In an automotive situation if the battery negative to chassis connection fails it's possible a *lot* of current will try and find its way home via the radio. It's not a likely situation but is possible. Having said that I only use one fuse on mobile rigs and no fuses at all on my bush radio but simply a 1m lead to a battery. |
Re: 857D problem
Kofi,
Check the wire entering the fuse holders,? I recently found mine were discolored from heat caused by a bad connection. I replaced the fuse holders just to make sure I fixed the problem.? My FT857 had large round fuses, I replaced them with the spade type used in cars today.? One way to check to see if that is where the voltage drop is measure the voltage across the fuse holder while transmitting.? I be that is where you are losing the almost 3 volts. Re: FT 857D button problem
开云体育Pete, One more suggestion.? Have you tried substituting the cable linking front panel to radio?? Or, thoroughly cleaning contacts on each end, and receptacle contacts.?? Regards, Phil / K4PO ? ? |

Re: 857D problem
Check your fuse holder. They can develop high resistance.

I wouldn't put much faith in the meter. I don't think it is particularly accurate when transmitting. Both my 857 would go around 10.8 when transmitting and they had no issues. Leonard K. Re: FT 857D button problem
Go for the obvious first - which would be the ribbon connector. Anything?that physically moves or has any tension on it has to be a candidate. Hopefully you will find the issue and it will be a cheapish part. Best of luck, Mark. On Mon, 28 Sep 2020 at 11:34, pete <pg.nikolic1@...> wrote: On Sun, 27 Sep 2020 13:52:24 -0700 |
857D problem
I have had an 857D for quite a while which i have used mobile. At some point, I noticed some erratic behavior like screen flashing and someone reported my signal had a chirp and wasn't frequency stable.
So, I adjusted the menu so I could see the voltage reported by the radio. In RX, it looked ok; something like 13.5 or so. But when I keyed down in CW at 100 watts, the voltage reported by the radio display went down to 10.8. I tried making the wires feeding the radio larger, etc. with no change. I also tried it indoors on an Astron RS-50M power supply and note the same huge voltage drop. Power output is about 80 watts. Any ideas of what I should check? This couldn't be normal?? Kofi |
Re: FT 857D button problem
You may already know this but I haven't seen it mentioned yet. When using the remote mic look at the color of the topmost right side button. When no light is on, no locks are on and it is now in fast scroll mode. IE: 5 Khz steps When the light is green (holding the button in for 1.5 - 2 seconds) it is in Volume Scroll mode When you press it and the light is orange, it is in fine tune IE: 1 Khz steps Now, if it is Orange AND you press the top LEFT button, or the lock button on the faceplate unit, most functions are locked and you will see the little lock icon on the faceplate lower right. I have done this myself when starting it back up and not looking at the colors of the top right button. Only a suggestion. 73,? Joe / AJ3O

Re: FT 857D button problem
Is the 857D "beep" different than before? I discovered a few years back that if you leave the line from the rig to the computer plugged in but remove it from the computer, the beep changes tone, repeater tones aren't transmitted, and other weird stuff happens. Turn the rig off.? Unplug everything including power and mic.? Let it sit a bit. Then replug only mic and power and try it again. No computer, no signalink, no speaker, no tuner, nothing.? Good luck. 开云体育Hello Pete, ? Search for a possible semi stuck button. I’ve experienced this in the past, as the radio “warms” up after turning it on, temperature difference caused the similar issue. ? Dirt, dust, moisture all add to a cakey type paste that may be impeding a button. ? ? --------------- Regards, ? Tony ? From: pete

Re: FT 857D button problem
Pete did you try a full reset of the radio that might clear the problem.
