is the problem only with the side tone, or is also the transmitted CW
signal delayed?
Remember the software applies a 65ms TX-delay (to prevent the spurious RF
burst that is emitted when the radio goes from RX to TX).
The initial dit (or dah) that is keyed within the first 65ms will be held
(delayed) until the 65ms delay is over.
However note that the TX-delay affects both the CW signal that is actually
transmitted over the air as well as the accompanying side tone.

The receiver manual says the following:
5. Optional Polyphase network module
"...This is because the audio transformer TR1 is fed by the output of the polyphase network module, NOT by
IC5. In fact since IC5 is not used, you do not actually need to install IC4, TR2, or the associated resistors
R1-R8 in the final difference amplifiers (IC5a, IC5b)."
IC4 and IC5 are fed the four quadrature phases from the FST3253.? But, the above paragraph says neither IC4 nor IC5 need to be installed. The receiver schematic does not show how the the four phases get to the polyphase header.
Does this mean the polyphase filter is fed directly from the FST3253, without amplification?

Initial tests tonight with the quick-and-dirty 470 pf across the bandpass filter and another across one of the output low pass filter toroids to knock down the 2nd harmonic -- method to get unit to work on 80 meters.
(Full disclosure:? ?I have an 80 meter LPF kit to build to add real low pass filtering to the output)
With the 470pf?? across the span of the bandpas filter, the 80 meter band came "alive".
Output (12V to PA) was up around 9 watts with primitive measurement system; measured much more than I see on 40 meters.??
(Both into SWRs < 1.5)
This was just a proof-of-concept test for me, will move to add good lpf.? ?But it looks like it will work, and that means it is a viable kit for local ARES members whom I trying to get to add HF to their handitalkie VHF capabilities....

The sketch also tests the radio for which mods are installed.
The results are shown on the LCD display.
Additional diagnostic messages are also output to the serial monitor
(in your IDE, use tools => serial monitor, to see them)

It is getting harder to find the Type II board. There is confusion on the types, which is why I have a photo in the assembly manual:
Since the article appeared, some eBay vendors are trying to get up to $118 for one! Use the link I gave earlier:

at $12.50. Or, use the AD9851 and omit D4 and D5 on the AA board and jumper the 5V to the DDS.

The PHSNA project actually has an adapter board that works both ways: you can use a three row device in a two row layout and vice versa. RF must be getting into tune voltage pot. I had such a problem when the ground wire of the antenna
connector was loose!

Re: Filtering noise from Raduino
Awesome! I tried it as well with some parts that just arrived. I used 1000uF capacitors and 1W 15 ohm resistors in a second order RC filter, very similar to the video. All the noise from my power supply and the Raduino are totally gone. Woo!
After the holiday I might try to do a write up for the wiki. This stuff might be common knowledge for most builders, but it sure wasn¡¯t for me :)

I just watched VK3YE's video and made up the small filter he suggested. I have been trying to reduce the noise on my custom Bitx20 for a while and this small circuit made a huge difference. I attached it between the power supply and the Arduino power input as he suggested and it works really well.
