Re: AD9850 source

Jack,

There is some confusion about the Type I/Type II nomenclature- you are using the terms differently than the PHSNA project and other places online. The way I understand it, the modules you are using - with three rows of pins - ?and that are now getting harder to find are the early ones, and the ones with the two rows of pins, are the current ones. The PHSNA project actually has an adapter board that works both ways: you can use a three row device in a two row layout and vice versa. I am actually using that adapter in the PKAA board successfully. There is some information about the adapter board at the end of this document:?

Thanks for the link and 73 and Happy Thanksgiving?

All:

When I wrote the QST article (Nov., 2017), the AD9850 (Type II) was selling for around $10 on eBay. Now, some dealers are asking over $100 for one...ridiculous! I use that board both on the antenna analyzer and the BITX40 TFT/VFO board. One user wrote to me with this source:

They are selling the board for $12.50 and he claims it works perfectly. If anyone is building the AA, you can substitute the AD9851 if you omit D4 and D5 and jumper the 5V line to the chip.
