Re: APRS iGate stopped working!

Can you screen capture the port settings of your RF port and your APRS-IS port??? There are checkboxes in those that affect IGate operation.?? You can also view and enable the various IGate(*) Trace Logs.

Thanks so much!? I realize that APRS.FI is the place to check to see if my station is iGating.? *? Cables - they have not changed.? I ensured all connections were snug.
*? Windows 11 PC connection.? I used Device Manager to verify that my TT4 was on port 5.? This matched the APRSIS32 setting.? I unplugged the TT4 and the connection disapeared from device manager.

*? AB9NN-48 - I selected this as it has a little house icon on APRSIS32 which is what my station is.? Is there something better to use?

Obviously something changed but I don't think I conciously changed any settings.? I went through APRSIS32 menus to make sure Internet was enabled and it was checked.? My port looks OK.? Someone said they queried my station thru APRS and it returned that the radio port was not connected.? My port in APRSIS32 is mislabled as FT857d as I used to that that radio and simply didn't change the name when I reconfigured it.

Cables have been the same for close to a year.? I have the correct chip(s) in the cables asn I know they worked for a long time and I have not changed them.

Re: SCREEN

If you have a thumb drive, you can test the different xml files quite easy:
1. Make sure APRSIS32 is not "full screen" and close the program on each computer.
2. Put the thumb drive in the desktop computer and create 2 folders?
???? DC (for desktop Computer)
???? LC (for Laptop Computer)
3. With the thumb drive in the desktop computer, copy the file (APRSIS32.xlm) from the APRSIS32 folder on the desktop to the thumb drive DC folder.
4. Move the thumb drive to the laptop computer and copy the file (APRSIS32.xlm) from the APRSIS32 folder on the laptop to the thumb drive LC folder.
5. Copy the file (APRSIS32.xlm - overwrite) from the thumb drive DC folder to the APRSIS32 folder on the laptop.
6. Move the thumb drive back to the desktop computer
7. Copy the file (APRSIS32.xlm - overwrite) from the thumb drive LC folder to the APRSIS32 folder. on the desktop.
???
If you want to put it back as it was:
8. With the thumb drive still in the desktop computer
??? Copy the file (APRSIS32.xlm - overwrite) from the thumb drive DC folder to the APRSIS32 folder on the desktop.
??? It is now the way it was.
9. Move the thumb drive back to laptop
??? Copy the file (APRSIS32.xlm - overwrite) from the thumb drive LC folder to the APRSIS32 folder on the laptop.
??? It is now the way it was.

Re: SCREEN

This may be a dumb question, could you be zoomed in so far that there are no map details to see? Try zooming out just to be sure.
If not, then it sounds like the software is not loading map tiles, but offhand I am not sure why. Are you on an active Internet connection?

Stretch the screen horizontally and at some point the scroller will become full height. Pess the right arrow button repeatedly and the map details will get darker. At each setting you get one with grid squares and one without them.

Re: SCREEN

Burt,

What you are telling us is that you have two instances of APRSISCE/32 running with different configurations.?

Your screen sizes are different causing different layouts to be used, and it sounds like you may be using different maps, or as previously suggested, you may just have the opacity turned waaaay down on the laptop making your maps invisible. ?

Hard to say without seeing exactly what you are seeing. ?

You can set up two machines identically, with one looking at Miami and drag the map away on the other one to look at Los Angeles. Both are “set up identically”, but the maps will look drastically different, showing different information.?

You have changed the viewing parameters on one machine to make them different from the other machine, hence the displays looking different even if they are showing the same physical?location.?

Thanks Ben for the info.
Stretching the screen worked for the desktop in getting the scroller enlarged.
However, clicking on the left and right arrors did nothing for getting the correct screen on the laptop.
I had already done the arror bit.? That is how I managed to get the white screen.? I had a dark grey with just my position on it.
Still looking for a solution.

Stretch the screen horizontally and at some point the scroller will become full height. Pess the right arrow button repeatedly and the map details will get darker. At each setting you get one with grid squares and one without them.

Re: multi-track screen size & zoom recall

I think that is it, but it isn't clear what these do.
I'm guessing?
Percent (save?)
Size? (save?)
Zoom? (save?)
?
And I don't have a clue what Zoom None does.
I tried looking in the website, but was unable to find anything related to these.? It could be there, but I couldn't find it.
?
So my screens will be better now.? Thanks.

I think it's the check options under the Preferred menu on a MultiTrack window?

And if you close a MultiTrack that is following a specific station, and the window is not maximized, the current settings on that MultiTrack window will be used for that station the next time you MultiTrack it into a new window.

The first one you did may not have been Flashing but had another notification-type Mic-E status.? You'll notice that some status do "New Flash" where others may only do "New".

They don't time out, but if a different Mic-E status is received, it will change to the most recent one.? This happens with some regularity with Emergency Mic-E status on a full feed typically caused by corrupted Mic-E packets being gated to the APRS-IS.

Lynn,?

I did get a subsequent pop up that I caught while it was flashing and it did have that option so I clicked Stop Flashing. I suspect they time out after some period of time. ?I will monitor whether it has muted those alerts.?

When I click on the callsign in the Follow Window, MultiTrack and Follow are checked and the only applicable?? option is “Ignore Mic-E Status”

If you click on the station that is using Priority, you should see an option to "Stop Flashing".?? Once you do that, you will be asked if you want to permanently ignore the status from that station.?? Doing that allows you to keep Priority or Special enabled in Mic-E Notifications, but slowly ignore those stations that are using it routinely.

Many people don't understand what the Mic-E status bits mean according to Bob's original intentions.?? They just set them to Special or Priority without realizing the effect on a properly implemented APRS client application.

BTW, the code words in the Mic-E Notifications menu are:

Msg - Queue an internal message when the status is received

New - Open a new MultiTrack when the status is newly received

Active - Open a new MultiTrack every time the status is received

Flash - Flash the MultiTrack window

{color} - Put a colored box around the station's symbol

Thank you Lynn,

Yes I had seen previously the Mic-E Notifications for Priority was checked so I expected the messages but didn’t realize the Follow screen was triggered from that as well. ?It is not so much a nuisance as it was just a mystery why the follow screen also popped. ?Thanks for the link also; that was useful.?

In that case, look at Configure / Mic-E Notifications / Priority.?? I'm guessing that station is transmitting Priority and you have it enabled to bring up a New MultiTrack when received (which is the default behavior).?? You can also read:

I have similar issue but not for location ME, but for one specific callsign. ?I get a Follow screen on his callsign and I get messages that he transmitted Priority status messages. ?I have looked through the menus and can’t find anything associated with his callsign.?
