For the sake of public learning, there were a few settings that were maybe non-optimal in the configuration file, but I believe the main "problem" was mistaken expectations.

APRSIS32 is not like aprs.fi.?? It does not have a database and the APRS-IS network is not "store-and-forward".?? If APRSIS32 is not running when other stations beacon, then those stations will not show up on APRSIS32 when it is later started.?? If you want to see all activity for a day, then you need to have APRSIS32 running for the entire day.

Re: APRSISCE and using a yaesu ftm100dr

You can use any radio with audio and PTT cable connected to an external TNC or PC and software. You cannot use the internal TNC in the Yaesu, so it is really not operating with data, but rather with audio just like the Baofeng.? However, the Yaesu has a far superior receiver.? I use Baofengs on trackers that transmit only, and they work fine. However, they do not receive well,?which is a necessity for a?digipeater.

What I did with my ftm-350 was get a tinytrak4 from byonics and use it as the digi, then also connect it to aprsis32 for the igate. I have the radio and tnc on battery backup so if I lose power and my ups for the computer dies, the radio and tnc will power up on battery and continue to digi.?

It would work best wth nucleo tnc laptop aprsis32 then when connected turn modem off on radio I use the yaesu ftm400 then you can digipeat off of software the tnc does all the work de AB8WD

Lynn,

Headed out, but will certainly check that out later today or in the morning.? I do have the complete aprs manual for the ftm100dr.
I might end up with Microsat 3 mini as a digipeater/igate? since it doesn't need a computer only internet connection.?

Re: APRSISCE and using a yaesu ftm100dr

Yes i can receive packets on the radio and to APRSISCE via radio speaker output to computer mike input. I would like to use it as digipeater but i am beginning to think it is not possible. Maybe a TNC external controller might be the trick, but i am not sure.

I think I saw on the yaesu group at one point that they don't have real tncs inside which is why they are not accessible. If the 100 is like the 400 it should have a data port where you can attach an external tnc, hardware or soundcard.?

Its just the way I am typing it out. I am, in most cases, using programing software (RT Systems) which sets the SSID up. I just select from a Drop down menu.

If he is using the non-paid version of the aprs.fi app, it does NOT do true APRS, but simply puts location information onto the aprs.fi web site.?? If you try looking at the raw packets for his Apple Phone station, you will likely see that there aren't any there.

The W4BJB stations do show raw packets that appear to be properly formed, so they should be available on an APRS-IS feed.

PS.? From

This is the official iPhone and iPad application of aprs.fi, the favourite APRS navigation site of the amateur radio world. Please read this application description fully - some features require an additional in-app purchase.

Some new features require a subscription. All old and some new features will be available without a subscription fee. These features are currently included in the Extra Features subscription package:

? APRS text messaging

? High-performance software DSP modem

? APRS-IS beaconing, with up to 10 callsign profiles

? RX iGate functionality

? Long time ranges in map and graph views

It's that bold option that is required for aprs.fi instances on Apple Phones to show up in the standard APRS-IS network and not just on the aprs.fi web site.
