Drive belt tension 25
Hi all, I picked up a new HF 4x6 (62377) and I'm trying to get the drive belt tension correct. The instructions say 1/2" deflection when pushed with thumb. At this tension the belt and pulleys are getting very warm (would probably melt the belt if I left it), and a dust of belt rubber is coming off and motor gets is getting warm. Also getting slight squeal which sounds like the belt. This is all happening with not load on the saw blade. I'm just trying to get everything adjusted. I have the pulley heights set level with each other, I've checked and changed the gear box oil and everything seems free and ok except this issue. Thanks, Rob

Grizzly 7x going up for sale
We just got updated customs info and found for our move we can't take any of our machine tools, so the Grizzly mini lathe with full tool set, horizontal band saw, and a couple of table top milling machines will be for sale as I can get them together. Also tools for my former big milling machine which has been sold. Interested parties should contact me directly so I can work out who might want what. Items are located in Los Gatos, California. Shipping would be difficult and expensive. I also suddenly don't have a lot of spare time as I have a lot of things to get rid of SOON. -- Jerry Durand, WhatsApp, Telegram, VK www.DurandInterstellar.com & www.Durandinterstellar.ru

Table for Vertical Cuts with HFT Bandsaw 69
Saw table fabricated and in place. See how the saw vise clamps the table to the base of the table. Four adjustable height feet to make the whole thing level in both axes and very rigid and lots of space to maneuver the workpiece. too. How to add files 3
Hi guys, I just tried to upload the drawings for my table to the files section. I had no problem in creating a folder, BUT adding the files doesn’t seem to won’t to work! I’m using my iPad, Open the add file, browse select the file & everything looks great, hit add & nothing happens! What am I missing? I can see that new files have been added quite recently, so it’s doable. Any help great-fully received! Cheers Kerrin

Setting up a new shop... seeking advice 19
Strange topic, but possibly an interesting one. I live in on a house barge on the Potomac River in Washington, DC and have had a shop at a weekend cabin in West Virginia since 2008. For many years we spend weekends at the cabin and the shop was my recreation while my wife was gardening. As years have passed and my mobility has declined that arrangement has become difficult. We recently bought a new house in Southern Maryland with a two car garage and I relocated all the machinery (Burke #4 horizontal mill, Atlas 10” lathe, 12” table saw, 13” planer, 6” jointer, 16 speed floor model drill press, 6” horizontal band saw, 14” vertical band saw, a couple of bench grinders, miscellaneous power and manual tools, a couple of rolling tool chests and a couple of machinists tool boxes, etc.). The WV shop was about ? the size of the garage and I’d be interested in the group’s suggestions for setting up a new shop. The old shop was uninsulated and heated by a wood stove and measured 14’ X 22’. It had a 30 A, 240 V breaker panel and 120V 20 A outlets generously distributed on the side walls, plus an overhead 20 A electric reel that reached almost anywhere in the shop. It had two sets of metal shelving, a couple of sets of 2X4 framed shelving along the walls, and a 2” deep X 8’ long workbench along one wall with storage underneath. It was lit by four 4’ fluorescent, two lamp lighting fixtures mounted on the trusses. It had a 10’ clearance to the roof trusses and a 2 ton chain fall supported across six trusses. I moved that to the garage in MD. Neither shop has a finished ceiling. The garage is unheated and uninsulated but attached to the house and could be insulated in the future. The house lot is well shaded and on a really hot (90+ degrees F) the shop is comfortable with both the garage doors open. The garage currently has only one 15 A circuit for a couple of overhead bare bulb light fixtures and the garage door openers. I have an electrician coming shortly to add at least 20 A circuit with multiple outlets, and possibly a 30 A 240V sub panel. Since it is a one-man shop I never need to run more than one piece of machinery at a time, so the total amperage is less of a concern than having a lot of convenient outlets. So, having enjoyed the advice of the group for 10 – 12 years, I wonder what suggestions you have for setting up a brand new shop. Be innovative, we may all learn something in the process.

Old Blades 13
I now have 2 broken blades. I have no idea what happened to the first, and I can't really remember what I was doing when it broke. The second broke as a result of my own stupidity. (Note to newbies - if you ever disconnect the counter balance spring, make sure you reconnect it before you use the saw again!) My question - what can I do with the old blades? My hottest flame is a Bernzo-matic plumbers torch, and my hottest electrical source is an old Weller soldiering gun, so repairing them myself is probably out of the question. Is it worth it to have them repaired? A new blade is only $20 or so, but I have not priced repair. (I don't know anyone who could do it as a favor, so I would have to pay a shop to get it done.) I have several old hacksaw blades as a source of spring steel for clips etc. I am looking at 3 cents a pound recycling, but I thought I would ask before I did that. Thanks Karl

Cutting oversized stock in the 4x6 8
I've been lurking here for a while, but now have a challenge that could use some input. I have a Detroit Machinery - branded 4x6 saw, manufactured in 1981 in Taiwan. My Dad bought it, and I've inherited it and by sheer luck got it cutting unbelievably well. This saw has changed the game with my DIY/hobby projects, mostly welding. I would like to cut a piece of 8x1.75" steel channel with it, which I know is outside its limits. The saw will accommodate the channel vertically (on its side), so I'm wondering what will happen if I try to cut it. I absolutely don't want to damage the saw in any way. Alternatives would be O/A cutting, angle grinder with cutting wheel, or haul it to work and ask the fab shop to cut it on their industrial-grade band saw (I'm already indebted there with other personal favors). Thanks for your thoughts. Lee

[ExternalEmail] Re: [4x6bandsaw] Redesign of the 4x6 2
One real problem with “stolen some ideas from other brands” is that sometimes those were bad ideas. Especially if the copy, is already a copy. The blade guides on my old green HF version. The available adjustments on the front (or top when vertical) are about useless, but some one spent some time slavishly copying (more or less) someone else’s idea. I applaud your approach Henry. Redesign of the 4x6 22
This is kind of a continuation of the original post from Rong Fu about elements users want to see in any redesign that's been overtaken by other posts. Attached .pdf is my list of design elements that could do with upgrading, specific design features for a base model and accessories that could be offered to upgrade it. Rgds - jv

Curious why people need a small bandsaw for DIY? 43
As the topic says, I am a bit curious why people need a small bandsaw to cutting something by themselves? As i know most of our bandsaw sold to US market and lots of DIY brands machine also do as well, can anyone share why people need this kind of machine? like 4x6 small bandsaw or hacksaw...? In Taiwan, people doesn't do this very often, is it because high labor charge or any other reason cause people in US like to do it by themselves?

Improving the Horizontal Position Accuracy of a 4 x 6 Horizontal/Vertical Bandsaw 13
In case you haven’t figured it out yet, the 4 x 6 Horizontal/Vertical Bandsaw is a partially finished kit. Yes, it lops off bits of metal, but do you like the off-square cuts? If the saw’s accuracy meets your needs, don’t waste your time reading this article. But if you would like your cuts to be closer to square, I might be able to help you. If you are interested, please see https://rick.sparber.org/HorizontalBandsawAlignment.pdf Your comments are welcome. All of us are smarter than any one of us. Thanks, Rick
