Could be worth checking the photos at https://www.flickr.com/photos/29504544@N08/3225451841/in/album-72157612861851465/ against your camera - these mechanisms are prone to issues when they get gummed

That black dot indicates that the counter was reset. So that part seems to be OK. Must be a problem underneath the topcover then.
