B&H is showing a 25.5mm screw-in lens cap for $6.95 US with 2-4 week delivery. Also they show a 27mm slip-on cap
at $4.25 US. Either one will work on the inner filter mounting ring

The lens arrived. One thing I didn't ask about was the lens cap. I was hoping that the outside diameter of the lens would be 42mm and that one of my spare imitation Leica push-on caps would work. The aperture ring is in fact 42mm. The Leica caps fits but won't stay on very firmly because the metal is too thick to slide in between the aperture ring and the outer focal ring. If anyone is aware of any low-cost caps that will do the job, please let me know.

The slip on lens hoods have slits in them that allow you to push in some sections to tighten the hood enough. However they
are susceptible to being knocked off. The only thread bon your lens is the 25.5mm. A smaller lens hood is preferable as they
allow you to set the f-stop without removing the hood as a larger one would force you to do. The Canon hood you mention, if
it fits tightly enough would in my experience allow you to turn the hood and aperture ring together to set your f-stop. Of
course you have to set your f-stop before focusing or you will lose focus. Also be careful not to collapse the lens while setting
your f-stop this way.

Thanks Bill. That's good that there are two filter threads (i haven't yet received my lens so I'm unfamiliar with it) as it gives me few more options. Maurice kindly sent me by private email the catalogue images that he tried to post on the forum. As you say there are two types, the slip-on and also from the catalogue, the "telescopic lens hood for 2-inch lens". I did find two of the latter for sale online, but these will be too expensive for me to import, unfortunately. Maurice was also of the opinion that the slip-on hood might not fix firmly enough to the Tessar. I found locally a Canon lens hood for 42mm OD lenses with a screw tightener. This might work and is inexpensive, so I'll likely try it.
