Super Ikonta III shutter issue
11
Hi, I i have a Super Ikonta and I know there is a double exposure mechanism, but no matter what I do, I cannot get the shutter button to trigger the shutter. It doesn't move at all. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks, Greg

Lens hood and filter size of CZJ Tessar 5/3.5 collapsible
14
Hello, Could someone please advise what lens hoods, old or new, will fit the Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 5cm 1:3.5 collapsible? From the serial number the lens was made in 1937. Also, I believe that the filter size is 25.5mm. Is that correct? Thanks Enviado do meu Galaxy

Ikoflex III Query
5
Hello to the group, My name is Paul and I’me new to this group, thought some helpful fellow members may be able to offer some advice please. I have fairly recently got my hands on the Ikoflex III, the overall condition is excellent, near mint. I’ve had it professionally serviced and the images certainly live up to expectation. I would like to add a few filters for black & white and also a lens cap. Regarding the filter size thread, would that be 35.5mm Also, should I assume that the lens caps are a universal standard fit across all the Ikoflex models or not ? The Ikoflex III 853/16 / L64039 that I have has a flash nipple / terminal unlike the modern PC Sync Socket found on more modern cameras. I’me curious wether this has been retrofitted at some time as the manual doesn’t mention a flash terminal. Oddly, on close inspection, page 16 of the Ikoflex III manual shows 2 photographs frontal view, the bottom photo shows where the flash nipple is located opposite the viewing lens yet the top photo doesn’t. The flash nipple as shown on the bottom photo is not repeated in any of the photos shown within the manual. The Ikoflex III that I have has the flash nipple located exactly the same place and the highest shutter speed is 200th / Sec which has me thinking either it’s factory fitted that didn’t get carried over in future production units as the manual states the Ikoflex III has a 400th / Sec shutter speed or possibly somebody has had it fitted ? I would appreciate any advice, Thanks. Paul..

New member info
Hi Folks Just subscribed to this group as I've purchased a really clean Contax IIa Color dial set-up with a Sonnar 50mm f1.5. The serial numbers and descriptions are as follows: Contax IIa Color-dial - A-50496 - depth of field measured in feet, clean chrome and no "Zeiss bumps" Sonnar 50mm f1.5 - "Carl Zeiss Jena Nr.2725949 Sonnar 1:1,5 f=5cm T" - go to f22 and has aperture ring tabs It is a really clean kit and I've enjoyed putting two rolls of Ultrafine 400 through it...developing them night. I can't wait to see how it compares with my Leica M6 w/Summicron 50mm. While I'd love to know when both were produced (the IIa is around June 1954, the Sonnar might be Dec 1941), I'm not going to let it stop what has been an enjoyable set-up. Thanks, JOHN

Carl Zeiss Planar 35mm 1:3.5
5
Dear Zeiss collectors, I have a Contax III and a Contax IIa for which I'd like to get a 35mm lens. I have the opportunity to purchase a Carl Zeiss Planar 35mm 1:3.5 at a price considerably less than I see on Ebay and auction websites (the lens in question is selling for the equivalent of 130 euros), although it it looks mouldered and I will potentially need to have the front element polished, something I've had done successfully before with two Sonnar 5cm/2 collapsible lenses. The lens is otherwise complete with front and rear metal caps and leather bag. It has a serial number of 1588xxx, which I think dates from 1934. Being a Zeiss, I assume it's an excellent lens, although I have not managed to find much information on it from photographers that actually have one. Nor can I find much in the way of photos (specifically film photos) taken with one on Flickr. So, my doubt is, whether or not I should wait for post-war Biogon to appear at a good price or take the risk on restoring the Planar. I'm very fond of the 1930s Sonnar 5cm/2, another uncoated lens. Can I expect similar performance from the Planar? Does the Biogon offer any real advantage? I understand that the Biogon was the more expensive of the two. Thanks a lot, Iain

Hi everyone Was wondering. Are the Industar 24 from a Moskva 5, and the Opton Tessar on an Ikonta close enough that I could swap out the front element? Any info is greatly appreciated. Javier

User manuals
6
I have a couple of instruction manuals - all in English - that I would be willing to scan and post if there is any interest... 1 - The PRO-TESSARS for the CONTAFLEX III, IV, rapid and super 2 - Contyaflex Super 3- Maximar and Trona Cameras I also have a little booklet : Contaflex Pocket Companion by Joseph D. Cooper. Somewhere I have manuals for the Ikoblitz 4 and the Ikophot. They're playing hide and seek right now, and winning.

Ikonta 521 6x4.5
2
Hi Guys, Just wondering whether anyone can give me an idea of a date for my 6x4.5 Ikonta 521? It has a Novar f/4.5 7.5cm lens with the serial P60644* Shutter is unbranded and simply says "Zeiss Ikon" but has a 1/250 max speed if that helps. Thanks!

Ikonta 521
I have several late 40s German cameras that do not conform to the official spec. I suspect they used the parts to hand a great deal of the time. Edit: a reply to a question that has been deleted.

File - zicg-info.txt
Hi everyone, I hope you are all staying well, despite the huge challenge we all face right now. I think it's too much to hope that nobody here will be affected by COVID-19, so all I can say is take care of yourself and look out for others. If in doubt, defer to the WHO guidelines. I have deleted the Yahoo ZICG group because I cannot stop the email below from being sent. Yahoo "deleted" the files a long time ago including what should be the source for that email. There is no way for me in the Yahoo settings to turn off automatic emails, so I have deleted the group. Regards, Michael Moffatt.

Ikonta 520/2 production year
Hello all! I'm a classic camera collector focusing mainly on made-in-italy cameras. An elderly friend of our family recently left me a Ikonta 520/2, telling me it was bought by her uncle who dramatically fell prisoner by germans in 1944 as a civilian and died in Dachau 1945. The camera is fitted with a Novar 1:6,3 numbered 1020638 and the serial number on the body is Q 84408. I wondered if I can date the camera by those serial numbers. I noticed you have a file with serial numbers datings so I checked it was probably produced in 1929 (first year of 520/2 production). I'm proceeding to compile a new row in the Zeiss Ikon Camera Number Registry. I'd also like to send images of the camera but I have to check how to download them the "photos" folder of the group. Thank you for managing this great group, with so many infos and files added. Roberto Ciappi Perugia Italy

Year of manufacture by serial number prefix?
7
Been quite a while since I last tried to find the age of a ZI camera body by the serial number or numerical prefix. Seems there was a list somewhere on the web but I can't find it today. Anyone know where to find it? Surprised it isn't in the files section here... Best wishes, Lance

Contarex Electronic
I have just joined this august group, although collecting Zeiss-Ikon cameras for more than 25 yrs, as well as many other brands. I believe my first was a very much user Contax IIA soon to be followed by a very much mint Super Ikonta IV. Many more through the years and my very latest is a late Contarex Electronic. I have acquired most of the specialized accessories for this camera; i.e. Tele-Sensor, motor drive, battery grip, and Intervalometer Timer. I'm wondering if anyone would have a spare manual in English, or a more complete description of the usage of all these accessories. I really don't find I'd ever be using the timer but it would be nice to figure out how the other pieces are designed to work. I have seen a copy on line which describes the accessories in the manual, but without any number diagrams, it's pretty tough to figure out all the buttons and controls on the pieces. Was there a separate publication from Zeiss which describes these pieces in more depth? I know this was getting to the end of the company, so I don't know how much support was ever given to this camera system. It's a fascinating piece which seems to work flawlessly at this point and my only reason for acquiring all the other accessory pieces is like any collector,it's not done until it's done. I assume there are other members interested in the Contarex lineup, and I'm hoping for some answers or a bit of guidance with this past state of the art camera system. Kindest Regards, Gary Hill

Migration to groups.io completed
8
Hi ZICG, Looks the migration has been completed to groups.io. I have set the group to be publicly findable and I will shortly set the Yahoo group to disable messages. People should be able to post here now. But I'll post a test message shortly. I am deeply grateful to those who donated to defray costs. Your generosity made a huge dent in the bill and I will recognize those people later in a digest message somehow. Unsurprisingly, I didn't see 10% of people donate $2, but the people who gave between $5 to $20 (in varying currencies) offset that. The migration itself looks okay, but here is a couple of points that I have noticed: (1) Our membership fell from 1072 members to 850. I expected that because a number of member email addresses were hard bouncing and probably the email accounts don't exist anymore. The migration didn't take them, which I think is a reasonable thing. Additionally, a handful of people immediately unsubscribed after the migration. (2) Some photos didn't appear to make it over, but I will fix that manually later. (3) Some email messages appear to be timestamped incorrectly, so the archives may not show a message on the real date it was sent. For example, the first message in the archives is dated as 1998, but this is not possible because there were no archives before May 2000. This is probably caused by someone posting to ZICG using a computer with the time set incorrectly. I do not believe I can fix that manually. I'm looking forward to smooth sailing for another 20 years! Something tells me that's hopeless optimism. Regards, Michael Moffatt ZICG Admin
