Hi Marty, I'm not familiar with the MacBook Pro. I'm sorry to say I cannot suggest what to do with your timing issues.

Yaesu FT-920 Noise problems related to voltage
Hey friends,
i have a FT-920 which has some strange problems.
When turning on the TRX with 13.8V supply, it makes strange noises and you can't hear any signal/noise. If i'm lowering the voltage to about 11.8V, RX works without problems.
I have replaced Q9002 (12V Voltage Regulator), Q9003 (Switching Controller) and Q9001- still the same.
Any idea what to check next? I'm a little bit lost with this one..
?
Here is a video of the problem with sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZzLsMEYBV4
|
Thats the way i measured it - with an storage scope. Currently, i have no idea about the duration of the spikes - but it was enough to kill an Amp of a friend. I can measure them again, but first i have to finish another broken FT920. Hopefully at weekend, i'm ready for measure.
|
Sebastian,
?
Thank you for reply.? That is good to know information.? Could you tell me what you used to capture the spike.? I have assumed it would be too fast to record without a storage scope.? Any idea of the duration of the spike?

Hey Wes,
i have 2 FT-920. One of them produce RF spikes (the newer one). If you set the TRX to eg. 5W, the spikes will be full 100W. The other one doesn't (the older one). So best would be to measure yours.
|
I searched the group and have not found this subject.? Does the FT-920 have an RF spike when PTT is applied?? A lot of radios of that vintage do but have not seen or heard of the FT920 having it.

Re: ft 920 loss of TX on all Bands
Mark, thanks for taking the time to tell me what I should not assume and to have a dig at CB'ers ??? But you missed the point of my post, I was asking for assistance or if anyone else had experienced this issue. You clearly can't help.in either case.
?
|
Re: ft 920 loss of TX on all Bands
never assume it needs 'finals' that's? as i quite often see a CBers diagnosis..
it could be a driver, or even an ALC problem, or power to the devices issue..
?
just assuming might end up fixing it, but there needs to be a reason they failed, transistors don't just fail,
they use over rated devices to ensure they last so if they have failed, ask why..

ft 920 loss of TX on all Bands
Hello Group, my 920 started losing all tx power after 1-2 hrs use but after a while it would return and the radio would work fine , last night it finally gave up, the radio fires up and receives no problem but no Tx power on any band, i'm assuming i need a pair of new MRF's or has anybody else experienced this.
thanks in advance.

Hello friends,
?
i have a FT-920 which has a Problem with no PLL lock (frequency display is flashing).
I found that the 2nd LO isn't producing any output.
So i checked Q2028, Q2029 and all surrounding components.
Also the crystal X2001 (60,77MHz) was checked with an VNA and looked good.
?
So i have Q2027 (2SK210GR FET) in suspicion. But this component tested good in a cheap multi-function tester...
Where and what could i check next?

Ok, I have that executable but unfortunately, I don't have the proper old hardware to run it now, thanks a lot Jim for your generous help. 73 and any news I'll post here.

It's been a while...I think the EPROMS hold the bios and digital
filter tables, the market based parameters stored in the cpu eeROM.?

Hi Jim and thanks for your fast answer, i have the original
main board damaged by another problem but it receives well and
has the mars mod, I know of an executable file under the old DOS
operating system that seems to update the band table in the
eprom but I have my doubts about using it. Do you know if the
920 stores this data in one of the 2 external eproms or in the
cpu itself (MB90P263), perhaps I could copy its data and rewrite
it in this one. Thanks again Jim.

I have used the Vertex/Standard att0274.exe and it works fine, with
two prerequisites. No Windows, must be DOS. And no virtual USB
comports. Must be a physical RS-232 com port.? I personally would
use the overwrite included with the .exe utility.? I've only run
into a half dozen or so "export" motherboards over the years, and
never had any problem using the DOS utility to rewrite the table.
Well...maybe a little nervous on the first one!

Pablo,
It's a JA market control board.? You can use it, but you'll need to
install NA TX partition table, then do your hardware mod.?

Hi group, I have a problem trying to expand the bands on one
920 rig which had its mainboard replaced but I can't do it.
First of all, the mainboard doesn't have the green cable that
should be cut between q2510 and r2544 I've marked the space with
a blue line inside the red circle. There's only one green cable
further down marked with a red arrow, I've tried with this one
without success cutting it and entering the code as indicated by
the mods that are floating around the web, but the radio only
emits one beep instead of two which indicates that the passcode
was not confirmed. Is there another method or passcode number of
unlocking it?
The radio set to OUTSIDE too in F33 Service menu.
?
Thanks in advance,
?
Pablo
