HI Tim

?

Are you using a pi2 or pi3?? If pi3, there is a procedure in the documentation to disable Bluetooth and enable ttyS0.? The docs says that you do not need to run the procedure if you have a pi2, so I would guess that you do not need to disable Bluetooth with a pi2.? I recall that in a pi3, Bluetooth and ttyyS0 share the same resources which explains why you need to run the procedure.

Joe,

I did the something and the serial UART would show communications with the TNC-Pi. ?Then when I ran YAAC and selected the serial port I would get garbage. After reading I discovered Bluetooth was using the serial UART. ?This explains the issue so did you turn of Bluetooth before installing the TNC-Pi?

Re: Last Received 3014 Days ago

Even if there was a command YAAC could send to the radio to change the format, I wouldn't do it. That Yaesu setting controls what appears on the radio's control panel, too (affecting the serial data stream was probably a side-effect), so I wouldn't want to screw up what the user picked for the radio's display format just to make YAAC happy. Easier just to have the user tell YAAC what format they picked on the radio.

Hi again.

Just went to the group, and re-read the thread. Other salient points noted now.

I guess the multiple formats in the data from the Yaesu, it defaults to Japanese practices, with others as a user choice.
Is that selectable remotely I wonder? If so, perhaps a command sent to ensure the radio sends to the software in a consistent format?

Make sure you follow the tnc installation instructions in the manual.? It is very easy to misspell something.? Also did you run the pitnc_getparams program which, if it works, will confirm that you are talking to the tnc.? It is of no use to try running yaac if you cannot talk to the tnc at the command level.? Try that before anything else.? Try and give clearer descriptions of your troubleshooting steps.?

Re: TNC Pi

I just went through this myself. I managed to get the pi 3 to talk to the tnc pi. I don't really know what I did to make it work. There are several settings that are required to be changed in the pi configs that I had to do. Did you follow the tnc pi instructions to the letter? I had to look several times at the instructions many times to see what I did wrong or right. It was difficult. Right now I don't have the manual in front of me to cite specifics.

It isn't the YAAC software that's the problem in this case. It's the firmware in the Yaesu radios that allows the user to change the date format that is presented _to_ YAAC. Hence, YAAC has to account for Yaesu supporting multiple formats so the dates can properly be translated into the internal Unix seconds-since-1970-UTC storage format, regardless of which date format the user selects on the radio.

Now, if you have a separate issue regarding YAAC's choice of date display format, let's discuss that under a different subject line in the email.

?next beta build#159 of YAAC ("Yet Another APRS Client"), created 2020-Nov-16

downloadable from
or

changes and updates include:
1. add support for meteor-scatter mode, allowing bursting of continuous
Status packets through Serial_TNC, KISS-over-TCP, or AGWPE ports
that use timeslotting. When doing meteor-scatter, only one RF
port should be enabled for transmit, the port should be configured
for timeslotting, the Status record should be enabled with
Maidenhead locators and marked for meteor-scatter mode, and
any Beacons should be disabled. Also recommended to set the
Status for direct-only transmission (no digipeating).
2. support receiving 4-character Maidenhead locators for approximate
locations.
3. warn users if they set their beaconing rates too fast.
4. clean up source code Javadocs.
5. prevent logging TCPIP or TCPXX as I-gates if someone generates a
bad 3rd-party header.
6. make more fixes for AX.25 V2.2 connected-mode stack (still
incomplete for V2.2 extensions).
7. clean up more issues reported by the University of Maryland
findbugs utility.
8. fix drawing of PNG-defined range circles (which may be offset).
9. add option to not coalesce fast duplicate packets to AGWPE,
Serial_TNC, and KISS-over-TCP (except for FLDIGI) port types.
10. allow SSL-APRS-IS port type to use encrypted payload. This has
become necessary because most deployments of SSL/TLS have
disabled use of weak ciphers (and the NULL cipher is about
as weak as it gets), so attempts by YAAC to force NULL cipher
will cause connection failures unless the remote APRS-IS
server has explicitly re-enabled the NULL cipher.
11. add support for a Yaesu APRS radio user changing the default
date stamp format, since this affects the format of the exported
APRS packets to YAAC.
12. add ability to control-C copy the contents of a cell of most
display tables in YAAC, such that the cell contents can be
pasted as plain text into another application.
13. fix timeslotting logic so continuous bursts of packets can be
sent (TNC permitting).
14. support KISS device IDs other than zero for software TNCs
supporting more than one simultanously-connected sound card,
such as AGWPE and DireWolf.
15. add more enhancements to OpenStreetMap map importers.
16. fix station category identifications for D-star and other
non-APRS gateways.
17. fill in missing parts of the built-in help for the ADS-B,
Callsign DB, and Repeater Finder plugins.
18. support PNG offset direction in selecting suitable repeaters
in the Repeater Finder plugin.

Re: Last Received 3014 Days ago

The ISO standards are irrelevant in this context. The only standard that applies is here:

Yaesu builds the radio, so they get to decide what the allowable date formats are, as seen on page 169 in this Yaesu manual.

The Yaesu port driver in build#159 of YAAC supports all the formats specified in the Yaesu manual.

OK, build 159 is out, where you can pick whichever date format you want (at least, among the ones supported by the FTM-400DR).

Enjoy.
