Re: YAAC download link fails
开云体育It would have been yaac on SourceForge, but Yet Another Asteroids Clone beat me to the project name. :-)

Re: Newbie to group and YAAC-1.0-beta202
开云体育Niece,
How many GPS receivers do you have attached to your computer? If you only have one GPS, there should only be one GPS button appearing on the YAAC map window toolbar.?
Also, how is your Beacon configured? The Beacon must be checked as enabled, or it will not be transmitted. The ability to disable a beacon is to support receive-only stations that don't yet have a callsign for transmitting. Also, if the beacon
is configured to use GPS for its position, you must have a valid GPS fix (i.e., the GPS receiver has sky-view to see several satellites) for YAAC to transmit a beacon. YAAC will not transmit a beacon with invalid GPS data.
That last reason is why you shouldn't have too many GPS ports configured. If even one of those ports reports a bad position fix, YAAC won't beacon.
Also, on your RF port (Serial_TNC, AGWPE, KISS-over-TCP), is transmit enabled on the port? If the port is not configured to transmit, it won't send any beacon records.
Additionally, what are you using for a TNC? You mentioned using DireWolf. Did you tell DireWolf how to push the PTT on your radio? If DireWolf is just generating audio but not keying the transceiver, the radio won't transmit. Check your PTT
directive in your direwolf.conf file to ensure it is correct for the Icom 7610 you say you are using.
Hope this helps.

开云体育As a further note, you can also download YAAC from SourceForge. The only thing you can't get from SourceForge that you can get from my personal web server is the pre-processed OpenStreetMap data.
Hope this helps.

Re: Newbie to group and YAAC-1.0-beta202
Greetings, and welcome to the APRS party.
Let's clarify some terminology here. "messages" in APRS are a specific type of packet, equivalent to cellphone SMS text messaging. So you will not see anything on YAAC's "Messages" displays unless someone sends an APRS text message addressed to you (or you have the box checked to display all received text messages regardless of addressee), or you send one to them and they acknowledge the message. Position reports (beacons) only show up on the Raw Packets table (or the History for a single station). To send a text message in YAAC, you either fill in the fields at the bottom of the map window and click SEND, or right-click on a station and select Send Message (which brings up a similar form with the addressee field already filled in with the selected station). On HF, you do _not_ want to specify a digipeat path, as HF APRS packets can travel hundreds of miles in all directions. Regarding knowing if your I-gate connection is up: Those little colored buttons above the map labeled "GPS", "IP", and "RF" correspond to the different ports you have configured in YAAC. "GPS" is GPS input, "IP" is an I-gate connection to an APRS-IS backbone server, and "RF" is a port to a hardware or software (like Direwolf) TNC. Black backgrounds on the button indicate the port is open, but no traffic is currently going through it. Green buttons are actively receiving something (inbound to YAAC) at that moment, and red buttons are actively transmitting (outbound from YAAC). Orange buttons have a problem; gray buttons have failed for some reason (you will usually get a popup dialog window reporting the reason if the failure isn't because you deliberately chose to disable [close] the port). Note you will not be able to transmit to the APRS-IS through an I-gate port unless you have provided your correct APRS-IS server passcode corresponding to the callsign you are specifying on the port. Also, you won't be able to transmit through _any_ port if you have disabled transmitting on that port; that is the default for all ports, to protect unlicensed beginners from getting in trouble, by requiring the user to explicitly turn on transmit capability (and also specify a callsign-SSID for the port). Also, note that you cannot use the aprs.fi website to confirm your I-gate port is sending to the backbone, as the APRS-IS backbone automatically suppresses duplicate packets, and YAAC is a comparatively slow I-gate, so it is unlikely to get there first _unless_ it is the _only_ I-gate to hear a particular RF station transmission. Furthermore, just because Direwolf is running and receiving packets does not mean that YAAC is connected to it. You will need to open an AGWPE or KISS-over-TCP port to Direwolf to take advantage of it from YAAC. I assume you have done this, since you report seeing packets in the Raw Packets view, though those packets could be coming from the I-gate (APRS-IS) port. Now, it's very strange that you would have 3 open GPS ports (unless you were using a remote GPS as some amateur rocketry people do with their mobile recovery stations); one GPS port is normally sufficient, and then only if you actually _have_ a GPS connected to the YAAC computer. You should see a green GPS button, as the GPS receiver generally sends as many NMEA-0183 sentences as it can fit into its configured serial port baud rate. Similarly, you don't need to connect to Direwolf using both an AGWPE port and a KISS-over-TCP port; you'll get the same information both ways. Pick one and use that. Hope this helps. Re: YAAC over IP not showing on map at aprs.is
开云体育I'm not sure if your beacon is correctly configured. Do you indeed have a GPS receiver connected to your YAAC system with a Serial_GPS or GPSD port to bring the GPS data into YAAC? YAAC will not send GPS-based position reports unless it is receiving
valid GPS positions from its local GPS.
If someone else is sending your beacons, then aprs.fi would display that beacon's comment, or the historical last non-empty beacon comment.
Regarding status messages, they are on the next tab after the Beacon tab in the expert-mode Configuration dialog.
Hope this helps.

Re: Connecting YAAC to a Kenwood D74
开云体育Hi Keith,?You can easily do this by setting the radio’s TNC (KISS12) in the interface menu..? In YACC, you add the device via SERIAL_TNC, mine shows up as??/dev/cu.usbmodem13401 Then I have 9600, transmit enabled, and use the TNC2 command… ? Give that a shot! 73 de K6EF

Re: Displaying NWS messages and lightning strikes
These types of messages only come from the APRS-IS backbone, and are not sent normally but only when explicitly added by filtering the APRS-IS data stream.
You can obtain them by either: 1. identifying the US NWS field office covering your area and using a buddy filter for their office prefix. For example, my area is covered by the Mount Holly, New Jersey, office (also called PHL for Philadelphia), so I would specify b/PHL* 2. using a geographical range filter ( r/ or m/ ) or area filter ( a/ ) around your location, which would cause _all_ traffic in the specified region to to be forwarded to your station, including NWS weather events inside that region. Note that if you want to see the NWS multiline outlines of storm areas, you will need to enable showing multilines on the map with the View->Layers->Show NWS Multilines choice. If you wish to see NWS severe weather zones, you will need to download the weather zone boundary files from the NWS website and put them in your configured map tile directory. This is documented in YAAC's built-in help. Hope this helps.
