Re: Label Font Color / Size Change?
The window font sizes can be changed from the expert-mode Configuration dialog. There is not presently a way to change the font color for map labels, but I am looking into such a change.

VGC VR-N76 in KISS mode via Bluetooth on macOS
Hi All,
Apologies if this is old news. With thanks to Andrew (KA2DDO) for the tip, I have successfully been using YAAC on a MacBook Air (M2), with the VGC VR-N76 in KISS mode. I made several false starts trying to follow Linux instructions. Things work differently in MacOS! My steps were as follows: 1) make sure your VGC VR-N76 is updated to the firmware supporting KISS 2) on the radio, hit the green button for settings, again to select “General Settings”, then "KISS TNC", then "Enable KISS TNC”. You can back out of the menus with the Red button. 3) on the radio, hit the greed button for settings, and scroll down to “Pairing” in the main menu and press the green button again to enable pairing to your Mac. 4) on the Mac, use Bluetooth System Settings to pair the VGC. It will show up as a headset, but _that is fine_. The Mac will notice the VGC supports the serial profile, and will mount it as (in my case) /dev/tty.VR-N76 and /cu/ 5) in YAAC, configure a standard Serial_TNC port using that serial port device. Works like a charm. Thanks again Andrew for the great software (and support ;) —惭颈办别 (VA3HHQ) |

Download went smoothly and the world map is working. I did notice some missing map segments. As you can see from the attached screenshots, I prefer a dark background,?and I was wondering if there's a way to change the label font colors so they show up on those
darker colors.?
Thanks,?

You just have to download an area of map tiles larger than 500 mile radius.
However, someone discovered a bug in the downloader, so, in your configured tiledir directory, there will be a file incorrectly named planet.ways.gz, which should be renamed to planet.ways; ity was decompressed upon download, but the wrong filetype was used for the file. This download bug will be fixed in the next build of YAAC. Re: Can’t get topo lines
A few other things to look at regarding rendering topographic contour lines:
Where are you trying to look at the map (geographically speaking)? You didn't specify your callsign so I couldn't guess at where you are located to see what kind of slopes you have in your area. The vertical spacing between contour lines is not dynamically computed, but rather set manually in the View->Layers->Show Topography->Edit Topographic Colors dialog box. So if you are: a. zoomed out a lot, and b. have steep slopes in the area to be rendered, and c. have a small value for the contour interval setting, the contour lines on those steep slopes will be mashed together because the horizontal distance between contour lines (in screen pixels) will be less than the pixel size. Also, the renderer has to check rendering lines for every possible contour line between the minimum and maximum elevations on the screen, so the smaller the spacing between contour lines, the longer it will take to compute the contour lines because more levels of them will have to be computed. And more uneven terrain will guarantee that more lines will be crossing slopes, increasing the computation for those additional contour lines. So, if it is just taking forever to render the contour lines and you are looking at hilly terrain, try enlarging the contour interval to reduce the computation. Hope this helps. Re: Error message trying to upgrade WIN10
开云体育;-) Looks like you installed YAAC as administrator, so now it can't be overwriiten by a mere user account.
You'll need to fix the permissions on every file in the directory hierarchy where you installed YAAC so the files are owned by and can be (over)written by the ordinary user account. Then try running the update again.
Note this is a common problem, so you're not the only one.
Do NOT become administrator just to run the upgrade; that will cause the log files to be owned by the administrator account so now YAAC won't run at all as an ordinary user because it won't be able to write to the log files.
Hope this helps.

Re: YAAC under FreeBSD 14.2
Thanks for the quick fix, that's great Andrew.? Just tested the newest update using FreeBSd 14.2, and works with local JSSC with OpenJDK version 8 - 22 with a bit of a work around.? Can't just "pkg remove openjdk8" because it also removes local JSSC.
?
Updated my blog to reflect and it includes the minor work around to run everything on a newer version of Java.
?
Now to get GPSD to properly run as a service at start-up for YAAC.?
?
I'll see about possibly reporting the JSSC port to work with newer versions of JAVA once I tackle some other things.

Re: YAAC Mobile, symbol not showing on map
Hi Andrew -?
?
Thanks for the explanation. Now that's resolved.
?
I am now attempting to replace the VHF APRS link to the truck W11 PC running YAAC with a LoRA 915 MHz module. At the house, I have a TTGO 915 MHz digi/igate N7UV-12. In the truck, on USB COM7 configured as "serial_tnc", I have another TTGO 915 MHz unit configured as a kiss TNC.?
This is the screen capture from that portion of CA2RXU's configuration screen for that mobile device.
I am getting objects occasionally transmitted from APRS-IS via the home digi N7UV-12 and being received at the truck N7UV-13.
?
but, I don't seem to be getting beacons transmitted from the truck YAAC instance via the LoRA radio.
?
In YAAC, I have the beacon set up as follows:
and like I said, YAAC has only two ports enabled:
Let me drive the truck around a bit and see if something happens.

Re: Can’t get topo lines
Thank you for finding a bug in the OSM tile downloader. planet.ways.gz should have been named planet.ways; it's gzipped for transmission over the Internet and unzipped on reception (just like the other .ways files in the tiledir hierarchy), except that the renaming didn't happen upon the download of this particular file. This file is just a coarser version of the other .ways files so rendering can be much faster when zoomed way out (covering more than 60 square degrees of the planet).
Still working on optimizations for contour lines. Re: Can’t get topo lines
Contour regions are easy. Right above the menu choice to draw contour lines is the choice to fill contour regions. So uncheck contour lines and check contour regions instead. You might also want to edit the contour ranges (third choice on the submenu where you check and uncheck drawing topo contours) to get more contrast in the color changes between different elevation levels.
Hope this helps. Re: Can’t get topo lines
Alas, I suspect that you're not being patient enough for topo lines to be rendered. I just tried it as well, and found that it took 336 seconds (!) on my older server computer to render over a view spanning 0.7x0.4 degrees. Apparently, the Graphics2D.drawPolyline() method in the Java runtime library has slowed down immensely, and that is what is used to draw all the squiggly contour lines. And, if you pan or zoom the map, all the incomplete work put into rendering for the previous map is tossed out and started over for the new map coverage.
Just out of curiosity, what version of the Java runtime are you using? And how much RAM does your computer have? Of course, it doesn't help that the process of rendering vector contour lines from raster elevation data is computationally intensive as well, because that is also a contributor, though I have done everything I can to make that part of the algorithm faster (since that, at least, is in my code in YAAC rather than in Oracle's Java libraries or your operating system's graphics subsystem). I would recommend that you switch to using topographic contour regions rather than lines; they are much faster to compute. In the meantime, I will look at ways to improve the performance of this code. Broken "feature" in YAAC tile download
Greetings, all.
I was just checking over some code in YAAC (unfortunately, _after_ I posted build 205 last night), and discovered there is a bug in the OpenStreetMap tile download code when using an older version of YAAC. Even though the last few versions of YAAC will display the older snapshots of OSM imports I keep available for backwards compatibility, they still will only download the latest snapshot (regardless of what you select), which may not be compatible with the older versions of YAAC (which is why that check exists in the first place). There is a minor map file format change in build 205 that was used to create the map tiles I posted this morning from the December 23rd OSM snapshot, so if you download fresh tiles, you will need to be using build 205 to read the tile files successfully. So please avoid doing map downloads until you upgrade. Sorry about the inconvenience. I will have this fixed in the _next_ next build of YAAC, but that doesn't help anybody who's still at an older version. I will tweak the website so the September 8th snapshot will be current again.
