I am no longer satisfied with the quality of this transceiver. I am not happy with development for a device that is based on closed code. I don't want to waste any more time on this.
I decided to suspend firmware development for the Xiegu X6100 and develop my own transceiver in which these shortcomings will be eliminated.
If Xiegu is suddenly interested in continuing my work, I am open to communication.

Fixed:

• Feedback when playing audio
• Fixed bugs in QTH window

Added:

• Auto level for waterfall and spectrum
• Speaker mode settings (in Vol:2 menu page)
• Acceleration of freq change (None/Lite/Strong)
• Callsign settings
• FT8/4 transmit (Limit 5W)
• Voice assistant:
  • Quick settings in Vol:4 menu page
  • 4 voice options
  • Less intrusive voice assistant
  • Custom action for switch voice mode (default long DNF)
  • Custom action for speaking battery voltage (default long DFL)
  • Speaking HMic direct freq enter

Question for anyone: I can't figure out how to input my callsign. When I type it, and then put the cursor over the "checkmark" at the lower-right, the screen closes, but the callsign doesn't "stick." When I then try to transmit on FT8, it says I need to input my callsign. I just can't figure it out — what am i missing?

I understand 100% how you feel about working with the development of your software for the X6100, and especially dealing (or trying to deal) with Xiegu.

I also wanted to tell you how much I and many others appreciate all your hard work on the #R1CBU firmware, and I am really amazed by your skills in figuring out how the X6100 works internally and in writing the whole application from scratch.

Someone with a bad battery needs to open their radio unplug the battery because the charging circuit on the back panel with the battery, plug in external power and see if it comes on.

My battery has not failed so when it does that what I would do…. But the big part of the Charging Circuit is the battery management board next to the battery. ?It is designed to protect you from a battery failure and because you can’t charge you battery… your battery failed. Generally usually the management system may be reactivated once you fix why the battery failed in the first place.

Tuning a single random piece of wire without a matching unit is possible, but just because it tunes, doesn't mean anyone can hear you. Using an antenna as close to resonant is pretty important for success with a qrp rig. The 6100 is susceptible to rf interference, common mode current much more than other radios. It is your radio, and the great thing about the hobby is we can all experiment and use our experience to guide ourselves. Grab a spool of wire, head out and see how it goes.
I always get a kick out of people comparing equipment to a radio that costs half or a third as much as the things they are comparing to. Compare the products that cost the same as the X6100. Oh wait, they don't make anything that competes in the price range. Rant off.

If the battery AND the charging circuit is defective, will the 6100 still operate on external power?

Your best bet would be an 84 to 86 foot wire with a 17 foot elevated counterpoise.? This is W3EDP antenna and it would provide the most consistent impedance for matching from 80m through 10m as it is a non-resonant length.?
There may be shorter lengths that will work but with the X6100 tuner but you are pretty much guaranteed success with this length.?

I think the crux of the issue is your desire to avoid a balun.?

As you probably know most folks use a 9:1 balun with a random wire antenna;? I think the prior responses provide adequate data for that.

But since few people do use a balun, getting no-balun info may be a challenge.

You could probably go out and give it a try and have your answer in a couple hours;? string a long wire up in a tree and trim the length until you get to the limits of the tuner.

But I am curious...? why do? you want to avoid the balun?? At the X6100 power levels 9:1 baluns are small, light and affordable, so it seems like the best approach to most operators.? So I'm curious about your situation.
