Re: [WT] 43 CJ or MB
The 43 Ford I had had the word FORD stamped into the rear, left of the tail gate above the tail light. Was this Jeep also known as a script Jeep?

Actually... RE the first Civvy Jeep:

The CJ-1 project began in January of '44 in the form of a couple of converted MBs. The totally civvy CJ-2 pilot model jeeps (40-50 of them, some called AGRI-JEEPS) were produced in '44 and '45 (a few of these have survived). Production of the of the CJ-2A began in July of '45 and they appeared for sale as a '45 model in late '45, though only 1824 of them were produced before production shifted to the '46 CJ-2As in October. Re: [WT] Show time!
When picking the judges brain he told me documentation and original paper work goes a long way with him.Might make a difference in how they do the judging. A static display with that information I could see would be helpful and might make a difference. The show I've been entering requires the vehicle be driven to a judging stand and then back to your spot in the display area - which leaves all such display material behind and the judges don't see it. Wagon Bumper Rechroming
Kyle
With the seat frames & window trim off to the powder coating shop &
seats in for new covers, it's time to look into getting the bumpers redone. I've looked at powder coating and didn't like the lack of shine. When getting a rough quote from the local chroming shop, it came in at around $1200. I have a 50 1/2 Willys Wagon with the wrap around rear bumper (3 pieces) and the front bumper has the extra bar on top along with the side bars & guards (6 pieces ). What have you all done to get a nice looking bumper, send it to a re-chroming shop? Who did you use and about what did it cost. I don't mind spending the $1200 to get a new looking shiny bumper, but would like to pick the hive mind on what you all did. My neighbor works for FedEx and can get decent ground shipping rates for me. The wagon goes in to the shop for a new coat of paint this month too. Soon I'll be able to post some pics of the progress being done. I even re- welded the dash to accept the stock gauges, now I just have to find some, ha-ha. My father had drilled it out to accept the round gauges back in the 80's. Glad to say the chrome I do have is shinning up nice. Thanks for reading my short novel, Kyle |

I took a trophy home about two weeks ago for my 59 CJ5 which I really didn't expect. When picking the judges brain he told me documentation and original paper work goes a long way with him. Of Course the craftsmanship in which the truck was put back together and the shine also help. Just being able to drive your work to the show and have other people see it should be of great satisfaction. This was the thrill for me. Scott ----- Original Message -----

In two weeks I will be driving it to my first car show. There probably won't be many trucks there but about two hundred vehicles (no motorcycles) I'm told. I plan on having it as polished and clean as I know how to make it. I'm told the judges look at paint, interior, and engine compartment. My plans were to do a little touch up with paper towels and soft cloths after I get there. Can anyone share some tricks or insight as to what we can do to impress the judges and perhaps win a trophy? What products do you use? If I put up some history or ads by the truck will it help me? Thanks, John 53 Pickup |

Scott,
CJ's (stands for civilian jeep) of any description did not come ALONG UNTIL AFTER THE WAR IN ABOUT 46-OR 47. pitman arm installation question...
Can anyone tell me which direction the pitman arm ball should face
when mounted on the sector gear? I'm reinstalling my Ross steering gear on my 62 pick-up and didn't write down¡or take a picture...and can't remember which way the ball ´Ú²¹³¦±ð²õ¡ Does the pitman arm ball face in or out? From my puller marks, it appears the arm was installed with the ball facing inward or, towards the frame - not sure which way is correct¡ I'm learing; just because that's the way the old one was installed doesn't that's the way it should be!--a lot of things on this truck were installed backwards! Any insight or pics are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Matt |

Tip #2 go to the show & show off the Willys, enjoy yourself & theother folks & cars. DO NOT CONCERN YOURSELF WITH WINNING A TROPHY! There will always be a car or truck less deserving than yoursthat wins. It's always nice to have your efforts appreciated but taking homea trophy is "extra" Good luck & enjoy yourself.action=view&id=828 33 Ford Cabriolet |
Re: [WT] Show time!
I plan on having it as polished and clean as I know how to make it.Stick with the soft cloths. Paper towels can be a little coarse and they tend to leave fuzzies behind. Can anyone share some tricks or insight as to what we can do to impressMy approach is probably not the best approach to follow, although I have four trophies to show for it. For the first three I just washed the truck with soapy water, rinsed, and dried. Used windex on the windows after that. This last show I just rinsed off the dust and dried it, and washed the windows. Another likely bad approach is correcting the judges. ;) Of course it also helps when you're the only truck in your division, or one of 2 or maybe 3. :) But like Ben mentioned, go to have fun not to get a trophy. Makes for a much more relaxed day and when you get the trophy it's much more enjoyable - and if you don't get one then your day was still a success because you had fun. If your show is anything like the ones I've been in you'll be spending most of the day talking to people "who used to have a Jeep truck/wagon/cj/jeepster" and wish they still had it.
