Sean I think you nailed it right on the head with the PTO. To use the PTO the
tranny would normally be put into neutral. Then if you didn't have a hand
throttle you would have to use the gas pedal. This would be cumbersome at
best so a hand throttle would be installed. Since PTOs were available on all
of these vehicles they would have come with hole even if they didn't come with
the PTO.

Mind you this is just my deductive reasoning an I could be wrong. How about
we hear from you guys with PTOs on the CJs. Do you have a provision for a
hand throttle?

After rebuilding my T-90, and then doing it again because I forgot to put the oil shield in
place, I have a question. I have the utility manual for Jeep vehicles but it does not cover the
6-230 engine...which I have. In the exploded view, it shows a washer betweeen the rear main
bearing and the gear which drives the transfer case but mine did not have such a washer when
disassembling it. Is this because someone else left it off or is it not used on my 62 pu.

Thanks

F

No

My questions are:

What axles came under a '53 CJ3B and what gear possibilities?

Could the 15" wheels be original?

Anyone (especially in Ohio) interested in buying a parts Jeep w/ me?

Hi...

Green Bay here. It gives me the Willys to think about storing my 2A
away!

I am trying this question again, this time with a photo...

Can someone tell me what the pull handle on the dash is, just to
the left of the steering wheel [between the steering wheel and
left windshield snap is? Not the headlight knob.

It is on the 3rd picture down on this page, not the white knob,
the "TWO FINGER PULL KNOB"...

If you all write back and tell me, "That IS the headlight
knob!", my face will be red.

Also, I am seeking for my 2A...

* Emergency brake handle and cable
* 3 square dash data plates [They go where a glove box
would
go on a regular car [can trade, I have retangular one]
* Original jack and nut removal tool
* Original Amp and Temp guages
* An underhood data plate, for appearance [Firewall

* Rear seat
* 5 Non-directional tires, 16"
* Original horn

Special plates

Bernie Daily

Michigan has a similar law. You can register an "authentic" plate for
your historic vehicle. There are some vaguely written laws about how
much and when you can drive a car with a Historic plate, but they are
rarely enforced. They just want to make sure you're not using it for
your sole transportation.
Here in New York. I live where there are cows. You can run "year of
manufacture" plates. My '64 Buick Riviera has a set of the black background
and yellow World's Fair plates. I had to have a historical insurance card
and supply an unused number plate. The cost is $23 per year renewable
annually. It's neat, I only have to run a rear plate, too.
When the current registration runs out on the Willys it will get a '56
commercial plate. I also have a 1956 NYS Thruway toll plate. It is the size
of a motorcycle plate and! blue and white to match the truck.
People seem to be getting used to the "vanity" plates. The YOM plates
really attract attention.

I was able to get to the picture at

If I'm looking at the same picture you are, the caption above the
picture says:
"Notice the governor handle of the LHS of the dash."
Now look at the very left side of that same picture. You can just
make out the round dark knob that should be the headlights. So,
what is the white knob for and what is the large handle for? A
couple of pictures down shows a "NOVI engine governor", so one of these
has to be for that, the other? Don't know. Maybe the other knob
has something to do with the "trafficators" mentioned in the picture
above. What the heck is a "trafficator" anyway? The windshield looks
a little strange to me as well...seems like its a little taller on
top than normal, more metal above the glass. But, since I'm looking
at a 3A windshield everyday I wouldn't know for sure.

Yes, it really fits. The flange to flange dimension is 53 versus the
original 51, but that's usually OK, because you get so much better
turning radius. The spring pads are exactly the same, the driveshaft
length is the same, and steering caster is factory set at 7 degrees,
so it will track far better. The u-bolts and spring plates are
different, so you need to use the original ones from a 1972-1975 CJ-5.
The 1976-1982 axle is the same, but the springs are wider, so the
spring plates are different. The tie-rods will work, but they are a
little short. I recommend using the late style tie rod, and then a
new drag link. This keeps the toe in constant, and removes several
extra joints. The brakes are also factory 11" Bendix self-energizing.

I can help you with this swap if you want.

<< 4Wheel parts hasn't had any 25 power-loks available for years, and the

from a 72-82 CJ5/7. They bolt right in, and differential options are
numerous. They don't leak, and they steer better. You can even get
factory discs. Then you can get serious and buy that Air-Locker! >>

OK, By "bolt right in" are you saying there are "no" modifications to be made?

When I was a kid I worked in my Grandfather's tire shop. Wheels and tires
all over the place and not a lot of money. Reversed rims became popular at
the time (early 60's). We made our own. We'd drill out the welds holding
the center section in, pop the rim apart, and either put the original rim
on backwards or go for a wider Buick outer rim. Next we'd bolt them
together, check the alignment on a jig, and have them welded. Might be able
to do it on some of the newer wheels, too. A while back I had a '35 Nash

Stock centers with 15" wide rims, nice touch.
