"Street Car" reverser for DCC
13
My layout is NCE DCC. I plan a single track segment, separate from the remainder of the layout, serving a coal mining complex. I plan to run a Bachmann Shay upgraded to DCC on the track segment. I would like the track segment to be wired to reverse the direction of the Shay as it passes some detection points, so the loco moves back and forth (rather than being merely a static display). I have found electronics which will do this for DC powered street cars (and presumably DC powered locos like the Shay). I have not been able to locate anything equivalent for DCC. I am not technically skilled where electronics are concerned. I do not do JMRI or even programming of my own locos for that matter. (I am fortunate to have a very accomplished colleague who enjoys programming and he does that for me.). So a solution which requires complex or sophisticated wiring or programming of custom-built equipment is not something that will work for me. Plug and play is critical for me. Is there an easy-to-install product which would accomplish my objective that is compatible with my NCE DCC system? Bill D N&W Steam Only

All Electronics Re-incarnated
The former employees of All Electronics have formed a new electronic surplus store called Aretronics: https://aretronics.com/ I just found out about this new company today. I briefly looked at what they have for sale. They have some of the things that All Electronics had. They don't have a huge selection of things to buy. Maybe they are just getting started. In any event, look over their website and bookmark it. Give them a few months. It would be great if they can bring back a lot of what we liked about All Electronics. Allan Gartner

DCC Fitting to Bachmann large scale shay
12
On one of the web pages, there is a very simple set of instructions to fit a Soundtraxx decoder to this locomotive. I¡¯m not sure what model number Soundtraxx decoder it¡¯s referring to, but are the same set of instructions able to be used with the Steam 2 TSU4400 decoder? It obviously wouldn¡¯t need to use to chuff sensor or wiring as the decoder provides for its own chuff ratings. Any help here would be very much appreciated. Cheers Martin (Mohawk Valley Railroad)

Testing DCC LocoNet Cables
9
I recently had a nasty experience with my Digitrax layout (details on request) that has me wanting to be able to test LocoNet cables. It's not going well. I have a short cable that neither my Digitrax LT-1 nor my cable tester like, but works fine when included in the LocoNet. Meanwhile, the cable that produced the nasty experience tests fine with both the LT-1 and the cable tester. What to do? Thanks and Merry Christmas. -- Bill Mosteller Great Decals! www.greatdecals.com

Resistance soldering unit
7
Time to purchase a soldering unit but not sure which one. Track is the new Atlas HO code 100 NS. Feeder wire is 22 guage solid. American Beauty units being considered. 10502 with light tweezers. 10504 with standard tweezers. 105A12 with plier or tweezer system? Light or standard capacity? These are 250 watt units as Allan recommends 150 t0 170 watts for soldering. Should I be considering any other units? Thanks.

Double main line with two crossovers wiring diagram
Hello all, I am looking for a wiring diagram withe a double main line and 2 crossovers (to go from main line 1 to main line 2 and vice versa). I plan to use signals, JMRI and Digitrax block detection, etc. Jim Worcester had produced a very good video on that subject explaining how to use Logix in JMRI. I am a software engineer so I could follow his train of thoughts. Where I am less confident is the track wiring itself. I think (but not sure) that each turnouts would be its own detection block with logic feed back to JMRI for determination of whether the turnout is closed or thrown. The diagram should shown where gaps are made on the track. I bought Alan new book, but the answer was not there (As a constructive feedback, the detection and last chapter was on a diet :-) ) Thanks Yves

Sub bus interference
4
Good morning gentlemen. I have a simple question. I¡¯m running a single wire sub bus for block detection. This wire will basically be in contact with the tortoise switch machine housings. Since the DCC signal will also be passing through the switch machine, is there reason for concern here?

Wiring
61
Refer to 101 Track Plans For Model Railroaders by Linn H. Wescott page 31. Plan #56 Dayton & Northern RR with 3 loops, 32", 30" and 28" radiuses. 14 guage buss and 22 guage feeders. Each loop is a power district. Layout is NCE DCC. I eliminated the round house and turntable and added sidings similar to those on other end of layout. Sidings on both ends are coming off the inner 28" radius . My concern is do I need to attach buss wires to those sidings or do I rely on the switches to provide the power?

MRC DCC compatibility with Digitrax
2
¡° . . . . ESU and Soundtraxx decoders. His locos have 4-digit addresses and are not consisted either by advanced or universal consisting. His locos run quite well on his home layout.¡± What specific four-digit addresses has he assigned to these locomotives. Best regards, Steve Steve Haas Snoqualmie, WA

MRC DCC compatability with Digitrax
5
Group, I realize this group is more for wiring problems, but please hear me out. I have posted to both the Digitrax and MRC DCC groups with no definitive ideas. Background: I am (supposedly) the DCC guru of a club that uses Digitrax system. (DCS200 and 2 DB150 boosters). We run a variety of decoder equipped locos of all the major manufacturers with no problems. One club member has a Prodigy Advanced system with add on WIFI. He has several modern diesels from different manufacturers (Athearn Genesis, Kato, Walthers, and Scale Trains). Some have factory installed sound decoders while others have after market ones. ESU and Soundtraxx decoders. His locos have 4-digit addresses and are not consisted either by advanced or universal consisting. His locos run quite well on his home layout. The problem is that none of these diesels will run on our club Digitrax layout. One loco has the headlight come on when it is put on the track. None have sound, lighting or movement control. Needless to say, this is quite frustrating to our member. We have resset the decoders with no change. One response had heard of a similar problem at a club layout. A CV had to be changed, but the responder couldn¡¯t remember specifics. So¡Can anyone on this group help? Thanks much for your help. Lee

Surge Protector for DCC Command Station/Booster
18
Hi every body ! Consulting the NCE website, for the new Command Station PH5, it is recommended to use a Surge Protector. But, how to determine a GOOD Surge Protector? I definitely don't want to buy Dollar Store quality... I know, the Surge Protector is not designed to protect against lightning strikes. Thanks Eric

12V Fuse Box

Hi All, I'm considering putting a fuse box on the hot (red) side of my 12V bus. It's an automotive-type fusebox and I'm wondering if I should put 2Amp or 3Amp fuses in it. Thoughts? Dan https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C2ZG7DPT?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

DCC CURRENT & VOLTAGE MEASUREMENTS
18
Hi, I want to hard wire a panel V and A meter on my layout facia. The rrampmeter is too pricey for me. What is the correct type of meter (not multimeter) to use for DCC and how are they wired (V vs A)? Right now I measure the rail voltage with a multimeter on VAC. The current I can read on my Power Cab. Thanks Sent from AT&T Yahoo Mail on Android

PECO SL-U8364 #6 Diamond Crossing UNIFROG
13
Hello Guys, I just got my first Unifrog Crossing. Was using Atlas but I have two engine that hesitate when they go over the frog. Since this is not a turnout how do I power the frogs on the crossing. I have the two wires that peco put on the frogs off to the side of the crossing. The back of the package shows using a DPDT switch. I run NCE DCC system. I wish to not have to toggle a manual switch Is there a device I can get that would power the frogs and make sure the polarity if correct? Any ideas or if you know of a video showing what to do would be helpful I searched YouTube and no one has a video about this Thank you -- Tom Grassi trgrassijr@...
