Efficient Frequency and Power Reading via USB: Seeking Best Practices
I need to read all frequencies and their power using commands that can be sent via a USB port. I can achieve this in a couple of ways: 1. freq_data = device.get_freq_data() data2 = device._data(2) 2. device._send_command("scan 220000000 2500000000 450 3\r") scan = device._fetch_data() The first method works twice as fast. Can you suggest any other commands that might achieve the same result? Perhaps there are best practices for implementing this more efficiently?

measure>harmonics, some remarks 3
So measuring harmonics uses the multiband feature and span sets the measuring span around the fixed harmonics calculated from the center frequency. But after setting measure 'off' multiband is still enabled. Is this a possible bug? Also: if you have a personal set of multiband measurements don't forget to save this to sd, because measuring harmonics will replace your settings. BTW: Something I noticed on my sa: there is a signal on 60 MHz around -100 dBm with all harmonics present that seems to be internal. Only visible if you set a small RBW to lower the noise floor. Some internal xtal?

5.8GHz wideband video signal measurements 27
Hello! I'm an FPV drone pilot and FPV race organizer. The drones usually use the 5.8GHz frequency range to send video signal to the receiver. Here are a table for our used frequencies(the bandwith of the video signal is about 30MHz): https://github.com/RotorHazard/RotorHazard/blob/v4.0.0-beta.2/doc/img/Frequency%20Reference%20Chart%202022-11-10.png?raw=true At FPV race events and we have sometimes some problems. We are using for racing the Raceband frequencies. For 4 pilot it is usually R1, R3, R6, R7. This video signal bandwidth is about 30MHz. Sometimes the VTX is faulty or bad designed, so VTX transmit not only on the adjusted frequency but in other channel too. Is the TinySA ultra capable to measure such a frequency signals? We want to ensure, that the drone only transmit the video signal on the adjusted frequency and bandwidth. This is a important question for me before I buy TinySA ultra. I hope my problem was understandable, If not please not hesitate to ask! :) Thank you! Best Regards! Daniel Czigany

Failing Self Test after v1.4-159 upgrade 8 #firmware_update #tinysa #ultra
Hi, I've just updated firmware to v1.4-159 on both my tinySA and my Ultra and both failed self test after that. TinySA reported "Test 7: StopBand Critical" Ultra failed both Test 10 and 14, both reporting "Signal Level Fail" Both units were tested using the longer ALSR-100 cable provided with the Ultra version. I have also tried connecting both together, outputting a 300MHz, -5dBm signal from the tinySA and reading it at around -6,6dBm on the Ultra (wich seems about correct to me), when I tried doing this with the shorter cables (the one that came with the tinySA) the Ultra read -9.0dBm Both units should be genuine as they were bought from Eleshop.eu following link from the wiki tinySA was bought in May 2022, HW version: V0.3.1_EL Ultra was bought in Dec 2022, HW version: V0.4.5.1 Have I broken something or missed some step? Thanks! -- //LMA// RF Coordinator for live shows

Mesure IMD with Two Tone and TinySA Ultra 5
Hi Group, I'm an Ham Radio operator and I need to mesure the IMD for the modulation in SSB. I just built a two tone generator so I can inject 700hz and 1900hz at the same time to mesure the IMD but, I'm at my first steps with RF electonics and the TinySA Ultra. Does anybody can take me by the hand and tell my what setting I need to do with the TinySa Ultra in order to mesure the IMD. Let's say for the test that I will transmit at 14.245Mhz USB 100Watts in a dummy load. I built a RF sampler 40db attenuator so I can feed the TinySa without blowing it. thanks 73 from VE2IBN (Canada).

ultra+ trigger options 3
== ZS406, oct 21 firmware == This firmware's trigger menu has some more options than explained in the wiki: beep, interval and autosave. -Beep seems to not beep, or do you have to use headphones? Or is this for 407 hardware? -interval blocks the UI, jogwheel as well as screen. You have to press for at least T-interval and release to get the menu to appear, and another T-interval to get to the interval input screen. -re-arming single does not clear the screen. Might be intentional though. Could not find any mentioning of this in the changelog other than that thes options were implemented. Anyone have thoghts on this? Regards Henk

How to test and measure THD with Ultra? 3
When I study the ultra with version 187, and use measure->more->THD, whatever I move the marker, the THD always 0, can someone give me some suggestions?

trigger? 2
Hello, Is there any way to trigger the Tinysa from an external trigger separate from the signal source? I don't see this capability in the wiki, but I'd thought I would check to be sure. -N

Tiny Ultra fail in signal generator mode 8
Tiny Ultra SA purchased from R&L has worked flawlessly for many months. While checking bandwidth of my oscilloscope using the Tiny Ultra as signal source it failed when I Tee'd in a 50 ohm input frequency counter. It failed within seconds of the counter attachment. The Tiny Ultra had a DC block attached at the time of failure. It now fails Self test 3, signal level fail. Below is the check of the attenuator as described for Tiny SA Signal generator partially functions, 100 KHz at -20 dbm, should be 22.4 mv RMS. Sine wave is distorted from what it was when working properly A 50 ohm termination on this signal results in flat line, zero volts ! Below is 2 MHz at -20 dbm 900 microvolts RMS, At 3 MHz the signal is around 400 microvolts RMS and at frequencys higher than 3 MHz no signals are seen. Below is in spectrum analyzer mode. 100 Khz from Fluke 6060B signal generator at -10 dbm. Any ideas on what died?

A step at 3GHz? 10
When I was (playing) testing with my Nose source noise source and TinySA, everything was fine at lower frequencies, but when the max frequency was 5GHz, there was a 10-20dB step at 3GHz. I don't think noise source does that, but I wouldn't think TinySA would do that either. I ran calibration after this and as always it passed. Should TinySA Ultra be calibrated before use? Yes, in the noise source PCB, there is a text NOSE SOURCE. Bg7tbl 2016-03-06 By the way, the noise source runs very hot at 12V. Amplifiers in it may do something extra. https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/_nose-source-bg7tbl-2016-03-06_/

A Tracking generator with two TinySas? 4
I was browsing TinySa examples from https://tinysa.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.Mixer TinySas where directly coupled to each other. May I ask, does it really work and can I make one TSA to output the same frequency other is measuring. I am not rushing to buy a second TinySA, but this is interesting.

Using Tiny SA- App v1.1.20.1. I – Can't change to match 2.4 GHz for the Ultra. PS: bonus question: is this the best software to use to upgrade the firmware? 13
I am using Tiny SA- App v1.1.20.1. I watched several videos about this the Tiny SA and I did a search on all the prior messengers here. I don't see a solution – How do I make this software work with ultra frequencies? What does work with the Ultra frequencies is the screengrab window – but not the big window. I'm sure this is a cockpit error and I am simply overlooking the setting or switch for this. PS: bonus question: is this the best software to use to upgrade the firmware? When I click on the icon at the top for Firmware Upload, all the instructions discuss the Nano VNA. -- -.- ...-- .-. .-. .-. 73 de Robert K3RRR X/(Twitter) @K3TripleR YouTube.com/K3RRR Website: K3RRR.com -.- ...-- .-. .-. .-.

TinySASaver - on Python 3.13.1 (Fedora 41)
Greetings, I'm looking to where I should share error messages when trying to run TinySASaver, I don't see an appropriate place on Github TinySASaver has been working quite well for me for some time now on Fedora 41. But apparently with a recent update to Python 3.13.1, It's now unusable. Would like to share these errors to see if it's possible to update TinySASaver and/or avoid others running into these same errors in time Thanks! -- Tate Belden A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.

Internal Spurs in Ultras 14
Hi Eric and everyone, Happy Holidays Updated my two Ultras ((from Zeenko), to ver 191. No issues and everything works as expected. However, I happened to notice an unusual spur on one unit that did not occur on the other one, This with no input, and both inputs terminated, and the units placed next to each other. They both showed the internal spurs that normally have occurred that will come and go intermittently (Spur removal is ON in both units) . In the plot pix below, both units are in MAX HOLD and left tracking for several minutes. FIG 1 is the unit with the substantial intermittent spur of substantially higher amplitude at 3.995GHz that only occurs on this unit, the other marked spur positions are normal (seen all the time at the same spectral positions on both units) that come and go, as does this bad one. FIG 2 is the other unit showing the normal spectrum with the inputs terminated. FIG 1 tinysa4_screen_2024-12-23_15-51-37.png FIG 2 tinysa4_screen_2024-12-23_15-55-01.png Not a big issue to me as I don't often work in the affected band, but I'm just curious as to what might be the source of this. It's internal to the unit and not picked up in the environment as it doesn't appear on a non-ULTRA analyzer.

Locked O-scope to compliment TinySA? 3
Slightly off topic, but what are you guys using for an O-Scope to compliment the TinySA? Is there something in a similar form factor and cost that would be useful to look at station RF output? Thx, -- Owner, worldwidedx.com AE6LX, Amateur Radio
