SoftRocks Kits for Sale
I've got a few SoftRock kits that are unassembled and taking up room in a drawer. After building several of Tony's excellent kits I've since moved on to a 5W SDR all band transceiver. I have the following available: 1 - RXTX + XTAL V6.3 1 - PA/FILTER V6.3 15/12/10 1 - PA/FILTER V6.3 30/20/17 1 - RXTX ENSEMBLE ver. 5/24/10 I will accept any reasonable offers - the V6.3 RXTX & PA/FILTERS are a package deal. I'm in Canada, shipping is extra TBD based on buyer's location.

RXTX Transmit 30
I just got me RXTX Saturday. I am having issues getting it working. I didn't find clear instructions on how to get PTT working. Tony Parks said that the CW key could be used, but I couldn't get that to work. I read I could use an RS232 interface, but my PC doesn't have one, so I would need to get a RS 232 USB cable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I compared the RXTX in receive this AM to my Icom 720A and I found that it is suffering from splatter from other stations that I did not observe last night. Any suggestions on how to improve that also would be greatly appreciated. Howard W2HFF

RXTX Ensemble Build(s) project. 5
Hello Guy, Nice to hear about your project. Sounds like this will keep you occupied for a while an provide lots of enjoyment. Your plan to build the first RXTX as designed sounds prudent. If you choose to build the 2nd unit for the 160-10m design, that should be quite straightforward for you after having done the first unit. Building the modified design, starting from a bare board, would involve very little more work than does the standard design. I use my RXTX on CW. The latency is manageable, although not the experience of a conventional full break-in rig. If you have any questions, problems, or suggestions for improvements, please let me know. Roger

SDR Isolation from Xmitter (or Transciever ) 4
All; Sorry for crossposting this.. but I thought it may be of interest here I asked this question on the SDRPLAY users group. ------------------------ Hi all; I have an RSPlayduo. I am using it mainly as a test instrument, spectrum Analyzer. I would like to try to use the receiver(s) as part of a receiver/transmitter configuration where the transmitter has its own DDS front end to a simple transmitter. Completely separate receive/transmit controls with the possible exception of a pin diode mute to the duo.. (something like the MFJ-1708, but homebrewed). Have any of you done this? For the transmitter, I am NOT talking about simply using an exsiting transciever as the transmitter. But it would work that way.. If you look at QRZ for W6JL and look at his rig.. he is using a completely separate receiver/transmitter config... heck... I just answered my own question.. take a look. https://www.qrz.com/DB/W6JL Instead of his homebrew Tayloe receiver I substitute the sdrplay.. heh heh... I ramble. If you have set up something like this I would be curious. Thanks! N1GMM --------------------------------- I got a response pointing me to a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHJP6yL7eIQ it is in Italian.. but you will get the idea. The specs for the ELAD isolation switch is here: http://sdr.eladit.com/ACCESSORIES/Switchbox_ASW/ELAD%20SWITCH-BOX%20ASW-2%20-%20User%20Manual%20Rev%202%20EN.pdf $102.. MUCH better specs than the MFJ unit. and even costs less and better constructed... Have Fun, Stay Safe and keep on the Sunny Side! Guy

USB Communation RXTX with PowerSDR on Win10 3
Has anyone seen problems with an Ensemble RXTX when using PowerSDR software running with Windows 10 commutating with the USB port. Specifically, when everything is setup correctly (say 20M FT8 14.074 MHz, soundcard and software) and waterfall shows FT8 signals received, then when PowerSDR Tune button is pressed of the WSJT-X software tries to Transmit the RXTX start to output a RF signal to the antenna then immediately I get an error message from PowerSDR "USB Device Not Found (-1)" . This error (USB Not Found) would pop up every other time I was using the RXTX with PowerSDR and WSJT-X FT8 Digital Mode on 20 or 40M. When working I made lots of contacts using an End Feed Long wire antenna and a 1:9 Unun. For the last week the same configuration that had been successful fails every time. The RXTX USB connection seams to respond to all commands correctly except when PTT is activated. Assuming the problem is with the RXTX, what could cause it to drop USB communation after PTT? I am driving the RXTX close to max power, but using IQTester app and CFGSDR utility the RXTX will drive close to 1W into a dummy 50 ohm load with no problem. It used to work and now it doesn't can any one help? Robert, KI5HBO

Looking for something to build and software to use 6
I am looking to get back on the air and playing with QRP again. I have a Softrock 40 and someplace around here I have a mostly completed mobo setup with my 6.3 on it. What I would like is to build a transceiver for either 20 or 40 mostly for the digital modes. Way back when I was using Rocky with the 6.3. I see that Rocky has been updated to work with Win 10 but the only digital mode is PSK-31. Besides the Ensemble RXTX are there any othersthat I should be looking at? My son suggested the Ubitx but that looks to be just a screwdriver exercise to assemble. What software should I be looking at? I would prefer Linux but I have the laptop set up as dual boot and can use Windows if needed. I looked at FLDigi on the Linux side but it doesn't really like my usb sound devices. Soldering and dealing with software are not a problem. Dave W2IJL

using Hamlib rigctld with RXTX Ensemble in Windows 13
In an effort to use the RXTX Ensemble with JS8call, I've been trying to figure out how to make a connection through rigctld. I can control the Ensemble suing console commands and rigctl -m 2509. What I can't seem to get right the the rig specifier, or -r parameter of the rigctld deamon. I've tried about every piece of the libusb description and various names with no luck, so I'm hoping someone here has done this before and knows the answer.Talking to folks on the JS8call group got me close, but not quite. I still get an error trying to open the rig. TIA and 73, Brent AB1LF

Softrock RXTX CW speed 3
Hello everybody, I might use Softrock RXTXs in the next WW SSB/CW contests. I am rather confident on the phone operation. I have checked the CW sent via my laptop last month on 10m using reverse beacon and some stations actually received me. I am using Quisk on Linux and Xlog. I wish to know if there are known issues especially at higher speeds (I use generally 25-30wpm in contest). 73s de Franco iz2oos

Running the Ensemble II on a MAC 6
I have been running this hardware with HDSDR on a Mac by using the Parallels software package. I am wondering if there has been any software released that will run it directly from a Mac without going to Parallels? Dave, K4TO

Softrock Ensemble II receiver, upper limit beyond 30Mhz 3
Hi everybody, I just repaired my Softrock Ensemble II and made tests on sensitivity across bands. It is like new! I noticed one nice thing. Indeed it can be tuned beyond 30Mhz. It has similar sensitivity, albeit a bit less, on 32Mhz and even beyond that. It is interesting to who wants to use the receiver as an IF in ancient V-U receivers, providing them a new life, or simply for the sake of tinkering.Does anybody know the upper limit that can be reached maybe replacing the bandpass filter number 3 with a high-pass filter? 73, Franco iz2oos

Softorck Ensemble II: 1.8vdc and 150mA at the output of the 7805 3
Hi everybody, after ten years my softorck ensemble has encountered and hardware failure. It tunes regularly but hears nothing and at the output of the 7805 regulator I see just 1.8vdc and a much more current drain than usual (around 150mA). U7 becomes hot! I replaced R14 and U7 but it has still the same issue. Removing also the ATtiny makes no change. Do you have any idea on what it could be? 73, Franco iz2oos

PCI soundcards modded to external USB 8
Hello everybody. I have a few PCI soundcards coming from old computers. All these have stereo inputs and outputs so they should be usable for Softrock purposes. As I use a laptop and have only USB connectors, is there a way to modify these PCI soundcards to USB? 73 de Franco iz2oos

Ensemble TXRX imput levels 4
I have a unit I just got from Tony assembled. Looking for specs on it but can't fins any anywhere I have looked. I have the receiver working though some images but the transmitter is giving me fits. I get very little out. I see the driver 2N2222 with lots of RF and lots on the PA as well/ The PA has 12 volts on it. The USB audio device is a Behringer UCA202. The info I really need is what levels I should see out of the UCA202 into the TXRX unit. Also what should setting look lile on SmartSDR? I have the modified 2.4 version It controls the frequency control fine. But maybe 20mw out Also VAC settings... are they for the PC audio in and out? The primary audio settings I assume to be the UCA202. But I cannot verify this online. Is there a how-to anywhere on setting this all up? -- GeorgeC W2DB
