Softrock RXTX CW speed
Hello everybody,
I might use Softrock RXTXs in the next WW SSB/CW contests. I am rather confident on the phone operation. I have checked the CW sent via my laptop last month on 10m using reverse beacon and some stations actually received me. I am using Quisk on Linux and Xlog. I wish to know if there are known issues especially at higher speeds (I use generally 25-30wpm in contest). 73s de Franco iz2oos |

I use my RXTX for CW contests at 25-30 wpm with the CW generated by N1MM software. This works quite useably but it does require attention to the T/R changeover latency settings. At the start of transmit, if the PTT does not activate before the CW starts, then the first character (dot or dash) will be cut off. The “hold” also needs to be set so that it does not drop out of transmit mode between “words", i.e. use “semi-break in”. I monitor the CW on an external receiver to make sure it is clean. I use a local KiwiSDR for that. There is sometimes also a problem at the start of receive, if the other station replies very fast, then you will not hear the first character of his reply. Adjusting everything to get the latencies as short as possible, but not too short, will make it work. 73, Roger On Sep 13, 2020, at 1:42 PM, Iz Oos via groups.io <iz2oos@...> wrote: |

I think I know that issue quite well. I had it when I first used my mil-pack and made all the software changes to solve it (in the cwdaemon settings in Linux and in the macro of Xlog). Another time when I assembled a QRP RXTX changeover and tested it with a 700mW 30m monoband I instantly created an unbelievable pileup... instead of sending iz2oos the Kanga changeover was not fast enough and cut the first dot becoming ez2oos (Afghanistan!!). Replacing a cap in the changeover? with a significantly lower value I did solve it. Checking the TX of my 15-12-10m Softrock RXTX into a dummy load and listening with a portable without the antenna connected the CW sent seems fine to me. I look forward to receiving a brand new 40-30-20m Softrock RXTX to make more checks and use them hopefully for the next CQWWCW. 73s Franco iz2oos Il lunedì 14 settembre 2020, 01:41:43 CEST, Roger <ve7vv@...> ha scritto:
