Success with SR-40
Leon Heller
I completed my SoftRock-40 just before leaving for the GQRP mini-convention in Rotherham, and didn't have time to test it. I've just plugged it into my PC (running the SDRadio software) and connected it up to my trusty Marconi 2019A signal generator and it seems to be working OK - I can hear a -106 dBm signal at 7.040 MHz and can probably go lower. Has anyone else checked the sensitivity? I'll try it out with an antenna later.
I've promised George, G3RJV, a write-up for Sprat. I met someone at Rochdale who is building one, and someone else who wanted one but missed out. 73, Leon -- Leon Heller, G1HSM leon.heller@... --- [This E-mail has been scanned for viruses but it is your responsibility to maintain up to date anti virus software on the device that you are currently using to read this email. ] |

After building about 70 of the little receivers, this is what I typically see when level is calibrated with an Elecraft XG1: S9 calibrated at -73 dBm with the 50 uV RMS output of the XG1 and -107 dBm, the 1 uV RMS output of the XG1, is usually about 30 dB above the noise floor. Also reported is the 1 dB compression point at about -20 dBm. Happy to hear the kit has gone together well for you. 73, Tony KB9YIG ----- Original Message -----

Hi Tony
Thank you for the information as I have the Elecraft XG1 also. I still plan to have you build my receiver but the data will be good for comparison. A new model is also available. Hi Chuck,
XG1 works with just about any crystal you stuff into it. I occasionally use mine on 20 with a 14.060 crystal. The new XG2 uses exactly the same oscillator circuit for 80/40/20 coverage with a little 3 position rotary switch. They change the series cap value between bands, though. That would be easy to implement with dip pin sockets too. The only major difference between the XG1 and XG2, besides bandswitching crystals, is elimination of the LMC6482 op amp for a low battery detector. It never really worked for me anyway. I'm going to use it to build a second Accuprobe for use in a NoGaWatt once you do all the design work on yours. hi. BTW, I bought an Accuprobe and once I saw it decided a full-sized Altoids tin didn't qualified as a "probe". So I built all the parts on a slim piece of perf board and stuffed it in an aluminum cigar tube. Now it's a PROBE. hi. Pictures on my web site. Works great!
