Re: Success with SR-40

Hi Chuck,

XG1 works with just about any crystal you stuff into
it. I occasionally use mine on 20 with a 14.060
crystal. The new XG2 uses exactly the same oscillator
circuit for 80/40/20 coverage with a little 3 position
rotary switch. They change the series cap value
between bands, though. That would be easy to implement
with dip pin sockets too.

The only major difference between the XG1 and XG2,
besides bandswitching crystals, is elimination of the
LMC6482 op amp for a low battery detector. It never
really worked for me anyway. I'm going to use it to
build a second Accuprobe for use in a NoGaWatt once
you do all the design work on yours. hi.

BTW, I bought an Accuprobe and once I saw it decided a
full-sized Altoids tin didn't qualified as a "probe".
So I built all the parts on a slim piece of perf board
and stuffed it in an aluminum cigar tube. Now it's a
PROBE. hi. Pictures on my web site. Works great!

Tony,

Just ordered an XG-1 -- hadn't had a serious need
for something like that
until the SR-40...[g]

I hope I can put a SIP socket for the crystal and
use it on 30 meters too.

Thanks again for all the help. I even downloaded
the manuals from the Flex
Radio website -- progress...
