So the size of images may not be that big of an issue.

Another alternative that I've seen suggested is to move the posts and

really want huge image files. Otherwise, shrink them and move them to IO.

I think everyone is unduly freaking out. The process is simple and seamless, the Groups.io site is easy to use, the files and photos are all organized logically and simply, and the Yahoo Group stays intact (until Yahoo completely does away with them.) If no one likes the new Groups.io, it can be abandoned.

For me, Facebook is a non-starter.

I once wrote a number of articles which were published on the internet. The publisher gave me a ceiling of 150k but I frequently found 15k to suffice. My target is double the definition (ie 0.5pixel size) at 100%. Most people include photographs at full size, possibly cropped to include the unseen part. Small size is less important now but why use unseen material.

Figuring the group faces an questionable future I tried to upload an image of a 24 x 48 HOn3 layout I designed and may yet live to build. That happened about 3:40 pm PDT today, Tuesday, 6/19/18. It said it uploaded but I still don't see it. Is there sometimes a time lapse before uploaded images to the group's photo section appear? Hasn't happened in the past. ..... Ed Weldon

HI Ed, Looks like Photos on this group might be broken. I just tried to add a photo to one of my albums. It looked like a successful posting but the photo hasn't made it to the album after 15 minutes.

Checking dates on photos, it looks like nothing has been added to the Photos area since November last year. It is most improbable that someone hasn't tried to add a photo to the Photos area since then..

I'm wondering if there is a residual setting from when Photos on this group was limited to 40Mb that is preventing photos being posted to this group?

Hi Ed and all, Trying this to see if attachments work as a way to get new photos viewable here. Looks like Attachments might work - my Jaxcillest Enterprises minimal hoist & dump "layout" as displayed at the Pasadena Narrow-Gauge Convention in 2013. - battery powered with mini-mp3 player.

PS I successfully uploaded 9 similar-sized photos to another Yahoo Group that I moderate - Time after pressing "Post Photos" to being visible in my album in the Photos area was under 30 seconds. Could one of the Admins please check and advise if the settings on this group allow members to post photos to be posted to the Photos area?

Re: Adding to Photo section

Hi Ed and all,
Looks like Attachments no longer work, but an attachment was added in March this year. From memory attachments have been always disabled on this group for longer than I've been a member (early 2000's or so).?

So as a test - I went to the Files Area, created a folder "Oztrainz Test" and was able to add the same photo I was trying to add successfully as a jpg file inside the folder. I de-selected "Notify Members" (so that's why no-one will see a notification of the photo being added). After viewing the photo, I was able to delete the photo and the folder that I had added to the Files area to return the Files area to as it was before my test upload. Test successful.

At present it looks like the only way to show a photo to group members is to add it to the Files area (probably preferably in your own folder titled for either for yourself or your layout). Note: - I reduced the size of the photo to 800 by 600 pixels before uploading, This reduced the original 5Mb file from my camera to just over 200kb or 1/25 of the storage required for the full-size jpg file, but still gave a photo suitable for viewing on my laptop screen..?

Hopefully this might be a way forward for Ed.?

Re: Group dead.

My feeling is (if it can be done) is to place the photos and files in a repository of some sort e.g Flicker or similar
Then you can link from Groups.io or whatever platform is in current use, the files and photos become future proof.

This way only the discussion/meeting platform requires changing as technology moves on.(this is the current situation with this group)

This is done in online teaching, having gone through a number of platform changes, having the photos and files hosted elsewhere was very handy.

kind regards
Steve (Tasmania, Australia)

As I have stated before moving this group to groups.io is not without its challenges.? The volume of photos and files exceeds the space allowed on groups.io so some trimming would be required and setting up a couple of groups on groups.io to handle everything.? Some of this I have started.

The auxiliary file groups would not be a problem to transfer.? If the owner wants to make the move it can be done.

Hi Bruce,

On the files transfer front, I do know that Groups.io condense photo’s by “n”

I am not sure what “n” is but I didn’t notice any difference in quality or clarity between the two from either site.

One of the site I use had a pretty full directory on Yahoo but has stacks of room on .io.

Just my observations expressed, I am no expert just a humble happy user who has a few problems logging/signing in on Yahoo.
