Double slip switches

Mention of double slips in the Marklin C track thread got me to thinking. Which produces questions.........

Is tha a doubleslip in the Ness Street yard image in the group header?? Are there other popular small layout plans with double slips?

I'm sitting on a nice little HOstd double slip that did yeoman service on the now greatly modified layout my kids played with. I'm thinking ahead about puting it to use on a small layout that will be entirely a wharf scene. Linear, light weight and easy to srore high on a wall on simple shelf brackets.

Wow! That was... quick... to say the least! And amazing too! In fact, beautiful inspiration! You are a much better man than I. ;-)?

When I do begin, I guess I'll have to document my work too...?

Re: Ideas for Marklin C-track mini or micro layouts?

Hi there,

I already had in mind to build an Inglenook micro layout?with C tracks.??After reading the last week posts I made the decision to start it.? Please visit my blog for more details.? Regards, Eric

Central Coast RR Festival - Show Your Railroad

Do you have an operating model railroad? Why not share it with others? Read on.

?

The Central Coast Railroad Festival returns this year to California's San Luis Obispo and northern San Barbara Counties on October 5-7 (Friday-Sunday).

?

As in past years I will organize a tour of model railroads and garden railroads. Last year we had twenty-eight railroads on the tour.

?

If you have an operating railroad I would like you to consider participating in the tour.

?

Participating in a layout tour is a great way to share your work and meet your fellow model and garden railroaders. You¡¯ve probably worked hard on your railroad so you might as well get some recognition from people who will appreciate your efforts.

?

We are only asking railroad owners to be open for four or more hours on one day. Additional days and hours are at the owner¡¯s option, including "early bird" showings on Thursday, October 4. And we are asking owners in Santa Maria and areas south of Santa Maria to be open only on Sunday.

?

All you need to do is operate your trains. I will do all the planning and publicity, as I have done for fifty-six previously tours since 2006, including seven previous tours for the Central Coast Railroad Festival.

?

This will be a free, self-guided tour. No buses will be used.

?

If you have any questions before committing to the tour, please ask. In any event, please contact me OFF LIST in the next several weeks if you are interested so we can add your railroad to the tour. Once you have been added to the tour I will contact you in August to set your days and hours.

?

And if you know someone who has an operating railroad, please share this message with them.

?

Thank you.

Progress on Traction Layout

Here're some construction photos of?my new O hi-rail portable layout using Super Streets track--the larger section is 2x4' with mock-ups of a segment of the mile-long Superior Viaduct in Cleveland and the Schmulbach Brewery in Wheeling; the smaller bolt-on 16x36" extension makes for a folded dogbone for continuous running with an industrial switchback and some manual switches just to keep you on your toes.? The frame is box girder aluminum stock with a Homosote overlay.? It should be sweet once the track and scenery are done and the street and bridge catenary are up...the trolleys are a big hit with the grandkids!

Hello Jon,

there are two examples for inglenooks built with M?rklin C-track in a German internet forum:

Both were built by the same person and both have variations from the original inglenook track plan.

Also in the same forum there is a micro layout built with M?rklin K-track:

Despite the text is written in German, there are many pictures from the building processes. :-)

The M?rklin C-track, as all M?rklin track systems, has a third conductur in the middle of the track. But the C-track is very sturdy and also looks realtively filigree.

Regards,
Dane

I was in Lidl today, and found this (ignore the Polish, it's the picture that matters):

Needless to say, i paid less than this auction is selling for (closer to $50USD than the near-$70 of this one)
I bought it on a whim, in part because it struck me as a reasonable price, but also because it uses DCC of sorts, and the cars are compatible with my Piko trains...
So, my question is. Does anybody here know of any Marklin C-track layouts that would make something like an Inglenook, or somesuch? I could just make a generic Inglenook, but was hoping for something sliightly more. Also, what does anybody know about this track system? any experience? TIA

Re: Copyright

I suspect you are correct. Scary.

Copyright

"The problem with Flickr is they have to be public.. Some of the images in the files section are copyright (e.g. scans from magazines)."

Copyright depends on each nation's laws.?? In the USA everything you write, every photo or image you create is copyright automatically by you.? This is the brave new world of the Berne Convention. You may transfer some rights to an online entity when you accept their terms and conditions.? If you attach the appropriate public domain Creative Commons symbol to your work that can effectively remove the copyright.? Trouble with that is you have to figure out how to do that with your image files? or add the right text to your documents.? (I'm still working on all that)

I have this dark suspicion that someday your automatic ownership by copyright will be sufficient reason for online sources to automatically "reject" effectively wiping out your earthly record of most if not all creative things you have accomplished.

JPG is for photos. Try PNG for diagrams, it's cleaner and no bigger files for diagrams.

The problem with Flickr is they have to be public.. Some of the images in the files section are copyright (e.g. scans from magazines).

The best solution is to migrate them all to and resize if necessary, Some of the images are probably a lot bigger than they need to be and JPG compression has improved a lot since 2001.

Then you can link from Groups.io or whatever platform is in current use, the files and photos become future proof.

This way only the discussion/meeting platform requires changing as technology moves on.(this is the current situation with this group)

This is done in online teaching, having gone through a number of platform changes, having the photos and files hosted elsewhere was very handy.

As I have stated before moving this group to is not without its challenges.? The volume of photos and files exceeds the space allowed on so some trimming would be required and setting up a couple of groups on to handle everything.? Some of this I have started.

The auxiliary file groups would not be a problem to transfer.? If the owner wants to make the move it can be done.

We also use these printed backdrops on our modular Nn3 layout. The ¡±dirt¡± on my layout is Synkoloid Spackle pre-tinted with dry pigments. (I have a photo-sequence showing how I do this if you are interested.) No plaster was used on the layout, and no ¡°real¡± dirt or ground foam to simulate dirt.

Re: New file uploaded to small-layout-design

OK - It worked as a file.? I made a first trial and decided to reduce the file size.? If you guys want one with better resolution I'll replace it.? Looks like it will print the way it is on the fuzzy size.
This is a track plan that I may never live to build but If I can't do it maybe someone else might.? If that's the case I'll add the fictional story and my concept for building as text in the file.
