One of the other lists I'm on, PCL I think, was worried about file
sizes. I think the issue was the images/photos as well, many were of
original size. I believe that list owner found out that he could resize
all the images down from, say, a 3-4MB, down to something a lot less,
like maybe a couple hundred KB. Or less.

So the size of images may not be that big of an issue.

Another alternative that I've seen suggested is to move the posts and
the like to IO, and maybe one of the files. Leave the photos here if we
really want huge image files. Otherwise, shrink them and move them to IO.

When the group owner opens an io group he can transfer all the files, photos, members, messages and so on at the click of a button.
The group owner can set it so that all the photos and files are changed to lower sizes automatically.
So many photos in yahoo groups are huge and way beyond what is needed.
So there is plenty of capacity in the new group at io.
I have transferred several groups and everyone loves the much improved experience.?Darryl Huffmandarrylhuffman@...

The one issue I could see with that is if Yahoo suddenly decides to close the Groups feature down with very little or no warning...then we take a chance of completely losing anything we leave behind.

I think everyone is unduly freaking out. The process is simple and seamless, the Groups.io site is easy to use, the files and photos are all organized logically and simply, and the Yahoo Group stays intact (until Yahoo completely does away with them.) If no one likes the new Groups.io, it can be abandoned.

For me, Facebook is a non-starter.

I once wrote a number of articles which were published on the internet. The publisher gave me a ceiling of 150k but I frequently found 15k to suffice. My target is double the definition (ie 0.5pixel size) at 100%. Most people include photographs at full size, possibly cropped to include the unseen part. Small size is less important now but why use unseen material.

2a. Adding to Photo section
Posted by: 23.weldon@... chfengr.elkhornforge

Figuring the group faces an questionable future I tried to upload an image of a 24 x 48 HOn3 layout I designed and may yet live to build. That happened about 3:40 pm PDT today, Tuesday, 6/19/18. It said it uploaded but I still don't see it. Is there sometimes a time lapse before uploaded images to the group's photo section appear? Hasn't happened in the past. ..... Ed Weldon

Hi Ed, The photo upload process is now a 2-stage process . After uploading shows as complete, you need to click the "Post" button.

HI Ed, Looks like Photos on this group might be broken. I just tried to add a photo to one of my albums. It looked like a successful posting but the photo hasn't made it to the album after 15 minutes.

Checking dates on photos, it looks like nothing has been added to the Photos area since November last year. It is most improbable that someone hasn't tried to add a photo to the Photos area since then..

I'm wondering if there is a residual setting from when Photos on this group was limited to 40Mb that is preventing photos being posted to this group?

Curiouser and Curiouser,

Hi Ed and all, Trying this to see if attachments work as a way to get new photos viewable here. Looks like Attachments might work - my Jaxcillest Enterprises minimal hoist & dump "layout" as displayed at the Pasadena Narrow-Gauge Convention in 2013. - battery powered with mini-mp3 player.

PS I successfully uploaded 9 similar-sized photos to another Yahoo Group that I moderate - Time after pressing "Post Photos" to being visible in my album in the Photos area was under 30 seconds. Could one of the Admins please check and advise if the settings on this group allow members to post photos to be posted to the Photos area?

Thanks & Regards,
John Garaty

Thanks, John. I missed something here. I give up till some time later.
Why is is that every time you try to do something useful you have to solve a riddle first? I think this all started the day the IBM engineers decided to put the on-off switch on the back of their new PC rather than the front.
