Re: Trying to hook things up...
Jim
开云体育OK....here's exactly where I'm at. I have a plug in the speaker out jack on the back of the FT100 and it runs to the HF plug in the back of the KAM.?? The bar graph is blinking all over the place like it should and I'm clearly receiving everyone. So I feel that my audio / KAM connect is perfect. I have the PTT wire from the back of the FT100 to the HF Plug in
the back of the KAM and when I hit transmit the rig transmit just
like it should.? So, I feel that PTT is perfect. That leaves the AFSK Out from the KAM that should go to the FT100 as being my weak point. I feel that I definitely know which wire from the KAM it is.? Don't know if you have a KAM but it's the white wire. I just don't know which wire it connects to on the plug that
plugs into the FT100.? I've tried different ones and I think I"ve got the right one because on the rig I'm using as a monitor it sounds almost perfect.?? But alas...no connects. So, I feel that that's the last hurdle I need to get over. OK now going for ice cream!??

Trying to hook things up...
Jim
Hello all, Jim W1JT here.
In the 80's I was on HF packet a lot...using a KAM and an Heathkit SB101 and it worked great.?? I left HF packet behind in the 90s and just used VHF.? Today, I"ve decided to get back into HF packet and instead of using an SB101 (I've still got it!) I am now using an FT100 I am receiving tons of packets so I know I'm right on frequency and receiving great. Some of the stations I am hearing as I type this message are: KE0GB-7 N0CTO KF5QEK AB4KR-1 WW6Q N0HI and many more. So for the past couple of hours I've been trying to wire my KAM 8.0 to my FT100 through the data port. I seem to have everything right or I'm extremely close. The PTT works fine.?? No problems.?? I try to establish a connect and it go's right to transmit.?? When it retries out or when I force it to stop it stops and I'm right back to receive So....that part works fine. I also believe that the audio out from the KAM is working fine too.?? I have an older radio on in the shack, a nice old Kenwood TS830S turned on 14.105.?? I can hear packets on that radio too...... I backed the RF Gain way down so as to not overload the receiver and wnen I transmit a packet I hear what sound like a pretty good packet burst when the FT100 transmits. At least I think it's a good "burst".?? Clearly the two radios are close to each other so I'm sure there's some distortion but it doesn't sound bad. Problem is...try as I might I can't seem to make a connect to anyone. So, what I've done is setup my beacon to transmit every 10 minutes. Right now it's 7:30 on Friday night and I'll leave it running for about an hour in the hopes that someone sees it. If you do, would you try a connect and if that works leave me a note at W1JT-1 and if you can hear me but not connect would you reply back here and let me know your thoughts? I really appreciate it.?? I'm close and I want to get this running. Thanks! Jim W1JT |
Re: New packeteer - New BPQ node, HF (and VHF)
Hi Louis,
If you can hit any of the Eastnet nodes in NYC area, you could run a Flexnet-compatible node alongside BPQ on the same Linux machine using (X)Net.? I have that setup here which ends up RF-linking the local Eastnet network to the FRNPA/DEPN BPQ network in EPA (via VARA HF).? (X)Net works with Direwolf, no hardware TNC needed.? It "speaks" the Flexnet language. |
Re: New packeteer - New BPQ node, HF (and VHF)
Hi,
thank you for the welcome, all the information and comments. I am not doing aprs on packet frequencies, those have their own spots. I mostly just do regular aprs on 2m anyway. All should be good, the map is useful and I now show up in the right spot after correcting my locator config. FlexNet - I think occasionally I hear stations on that, but nothing regular or strong enough to connect up to, so far - I might be missing it, of course. I will continue to look and explore. I like keyboard to keyboard modes and hope to find more activity. I do a lot of that outside of packet and so on packet it feels like a natural thing.? If anyone sees me on air feel free try direct connect for interactive chat :) Finally, I just ordered a new decent spec mini pc, 8 core, 32Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD - this will be my new linux (radio) server, means I can leave it going headless, connected to rigs. I'll work on that and transfer all over to it in due course. Then and perhaps with one more rig as yet TBC, I might leave something on air more often than not. There seems to be a lack of VHF packet in this spot, which is weird being so close to the city. There is a chance I can fill a void here, I'm higher than all of NYC and can reach all of it, so could be a good spot for a VHF packet node. But we shall see... thanks again, 73, Louis / kd2yck |
Re: New packeteer - New BPQ node, HF (and VHF)
Hi Louis!
Welcome to packet radio and to Network105. There are many aspects to packet radio, from keyboard-to-keyboard, BBS, mailboxes, nodes, POCSAG paging via packet, contests, satellite packet and more... Here on Network105 we focus on 300 baud AX.25 keyboard-to-keyboard packet. There are nodes, mailboxes and gateways here as well. A great tutorial and introduction to Network105 policy can be found here: BPQ is great. I run a Node/BBS on VHF/AXIP. If you run a port? on HF to Network105, please make sure there is no BBS to BBS forwarding and no full list nodes broadcast. No APRS either. (There are dedicated HF freqs. for that.) At 300 baud, it just clogs up the frequency and makes it messy! I would recommend keeping your BPQ BBS/Node on a set frequency, like 145.050 so users can get used to where your system is parked. The BPQ network Map will list you too.? If you're in the NYC area, there is a very large FlexNet packet network you might want to explore as well. 73 de Chris ww2bsa.org Moderator |
Re: New packeteer - New BPQ node, HF (and VHF)
991a for now.
But I might get more rigs so it can be a bit more standalone. Changing HF just means change freq, can do that remotely. However change to VHF means reconfigure to 1200baud, so that is a step, but it only takes a moment to switch configs. I'd like the 300 and 1200 on different ports/channels but with a single rig not sure that is so easy. Down the line, with an extra rig then I hopefully leave both up, maybe at the same time, act as a node between vhf and hf. I hope that helps, 73 Louis kd2yck |

New packeteer - New BPQ node, HF (and VHF)
Hi,
I am new to packet, been dabbling in the last few weeks (beyond initial aprs and wl2k). Mostly on linux, or linux and macos I finally got around to setting up libBPQ on linux x64 and it is running Depending on paths and time of day may be found on 20m, 30m, 40m on HF (p105 frequencies) If anyone is connected I will not move it about. Only when idle and when bands dead. I will try leave running when rigs not in use, if there is activity. Please try to connect, say hi, leave a message.. It has a BBS and chat running on it also. I can also run same on VHF, so if you are in the NYC area and want to try direct let me know. (or 220 band or UHF!) Can put it on VHF in a couple of minutes, 1200 baud, freq to be confirmed i.e. 145.050 or similar... Hope to see some new connections. Keep Packet Alive. It's been fun so far, learning about it. Thank you, 73 Louis / KD2YCK PS Node IDs are -?SSIDs -1 BBS, -4 CHAT, -7 Node |

Re: WINTNC no available for Windows 7, 10 and 11
开云体育Hi Jim, John Welch, G7JJF has released WINTNC Ver 2.00 the 32bit version of his popular 16bit creation. This is a Windows multiuser/multitasking multiport Packet Terminal Driver program for use with multiple KISS mode TNC's attached to your IBM-PC/clone or software modems using the AGWPE interface, such as the SoundModem by UZ7HO. The software is 32 bit so works with modern Windows 7/10/11 systems. Works well give it a spin.

From Jon G7JJF
Back in the 90's, I wrote several packet driver programs including WINTNC. This was a 16 bit program and only ran on Windows up to version XP. Packet seemed to die down in the early 00's so I never got around to converting the program to run
on the more modern 32/64 bit OS's, such as Windows 7, 10 and 11. I was recently contacted by a member of another Facebook packet group to enquire about a 32 bit version of the program so I thought it was about time I updated the program which I have now done.
So I have a 32 bit version of WINTNC available if anyone would like to try it out. I no longer have any radio gear or TNC's to test it with so I would like to know if anyone manages to get it working. It should, but I can't check myself. The program also supports
the AGWPE interface so works with the UZ7HO SoundModem. You can download a copy from:

().?
Please let me know if you would like a free registration key to the program as well. As this is the first release after conversion, I am sure there may be a few things that have missed my testing and don't work so please let me know if you spot
anything that doesn't seem right. Thanks ?
