Jim,
? ?Hello glad you are here with the same
equipment that I have used for years. I have a FT100D and TS
530s Both run on Kams....I can get with you later and let you
know setup.?
? Also, on your QRZ do you still have your
R390's...Mine needs work. Maybe one day.

Hello all,
Jim W1JT here.
In the 80's I was on HF packet a lot...using a KAM and an
Heathkit SB101 and it worked great.?? I left HF packet behind
in the 90s and just used VHF.?
Today, I"ve decided to get back into HF packet and instead of
using an SB101 (I've still got it!) I am now using an FT100
I am receiving tons of packets so I know I'm right on
frequency and receiving great.
Some of the stations I am hearing as I type this message are:
KE0GB-7
N0CTO
KF5QEK
AB4KR-1
WW6Q
N0HI
and many more.
So for the past couple of hours I've been trying to wire my
KAM 8.0 to my FT100 through the data port.
I seem to have everything right or I'm extremely close.
The PTT works fine.?? No problems.?? I try to establish a
connect and it go's right to transmit.?? When it retries out
or when I force it
to stop it stops and I'm right back to receive
So....that part works fine.
I also believe that the audio out from the KAM is working fine
too.??
I have an older radio on in the shack, a nice old Kenwood
TS830S turned on 14.105.?? I can hear packets on that radio
too......
I backed the RF Gain way down so as to not overload the
receiver and wnen I transmit a packet I hear what sound like a
pretty good packet burst when the
FT100 transmits.
At least I think it's a good "burst".?? Clearly the two radios
are close to each other so I'm sure there's some distortion
but it doesn't sound bad.
Problem is...try as I might I can't seem to make a connect to
anyone.
So, what I've done is setup my beacon to transmit every 10
minutes.
Right now it's 7:30 on Friday night and I'll leave it running
for about an hour in the hopes that someone sees it.
If you do, would you try a connect and if that works leave me
a note at W1JT-1 and if you can hear me but not
connect would you reply back here and let me know your
thoughts?
I really appreciate it.?? I'm close and I want to get this
running.
Thanks!
