Re: Antenna selection

开云体育You may be the exception. In my 30 yrs or so of hamming I have seen things. One guy had the SX-77?? ?It’s an amp using 2 8877 tubes capable of producing 3000 watts. Built a crappy antenna that doesn’t seem to be resonant on that band and used
a tuner so now he thinks his antenna is 1:1. I made better contact using 1000W and a delta loop.?

Hi Hiram,
I use my Elecraft KX2 as a QRP exciter to operate on 5346.5 kHz USB with my Elecraft KPA1500 set to Band 5; staying well within the permissible 100W PEP ERP limit.? The built-in ATU of my KPA1500 even provides VSWR matching for my experimental 60M antenna. I certainly wouldn't want to pair my LA-1K with the Elecraft KX2 in like manner for reasons cited in my posts here /g/la1k/topic/99360701#1316 under the topic of FCC ID: 2ANZ2-LA-1K. 73, Ray KJ5MI |

开云体育Since we are on this topic, 30M is limited to 200w so an amplifier isn’t helping u much there either. Didn’t read all the replies but it seems to me people want to use an amp on frequencies that go not permit high power. Am I correct? ?If I am
then 11M will be the next complaint.?

Re: FCC ID: 2ANZ2-LA-1K
After sharing my concerns with Mark Ward (Palstar's technician) about the way lack of 60M and 30M BAND Selection Buttons, clearly made available on the current LA-1K touch-screen display, would put a licensed amateur radio operator solely at risks of violating FCC rules and regulations when making 60M/30M over-the-air transmissions (regardless of permissible power output levels) with the LA-1K, Mr. Ward advised me that he will forward my comments to Mr. Paul Hrivnak (Palstar's Chief Engineer, President & CEO) on "the separate band annunciators for 30M/60M."? Mark added that it "would be a display change, with antenna switching capability."
Mr. Ward failed to provide me with an estimated date of completion for said LA-1K modifications. 73, Ray KJ5M |

FCC ID: 2ANZ2-LA-1K
Hello All,
The FCC ID on the back of my LA-1K reads 2ANZ2-LA-1K.? Did a FCC ID search for 2ANZ2-LA-1K on FCC.gov and was able to find the LA-1K EMC test report (Report No.: 100620-8) as submitted to the FCC for consideration.? This link will take you to the FCC.gov page, where you can view a copy of said report. EMC Test Report Observation: Test Data Summary and Plots pertaining to "Occupied Bandwidth / Authorized Frequency Bands" in said test report covered only 6M, 10M, 12M, 15M, 17M, 20M, 40M, 80M and 160M. Next, I clicked on Users Manual 2 (on the same page where I pulled up the EMC test report) to access the initial-released copy of the LA-1K Technical Manual as submitted to the FCC for consideration. LA-1K Technical Manual (initial release) Observations: 1.? The LA-1K front panel view (see Page 7 and Front Cover of the Technical Manual) clearly identifies 40M/30M as being available on the original LA-1K touch-screen display. 2.? It states near the top of Page 5 of the Technical Manual, in part, "BAND SELECT? To switch bands, 160M-80M-40-30M-20-15M-12-10M-6M, press the "BAND" button on the touchscreen display, then select desired band.? The LA-1K selects the proper band automatically when transmit is activated. Questions: 1.? Why would the LA-1K EMC test report, as submitted to the FCC, not include test results of the then available 30M band?? 2.? Why would the current version of the LA-1K not include the 30M band as one of the band selections available on its touch-screen display?? 73, Ray KJ5MI |
Re: 1.08S Firmware
Anyone else having problems running this latest firmware on a Windows 11 machine? I get error message: LOAD_LA-1K.exe "The application was unable to start correctly (0x000007b)."
I tried running as administrator and even Windows 7 compatibility mode and still no luck. I even installed the C++ service pack. Didnt help. Good thing i still have Windows 10 and went smooth there. Anyone else having this issue on Win11? Any suggestions? Im stumped. Barry VE6UM |
Icom 7100 band data cable help
Ron - WA2EIO
I understand that the DB7i? is the band data cable to use with the IC-7100 and that the Icom OPC599 Y cable? is also needed? (in order to adapt the 13 pin connector on the rig with the 7 pin one on the cable.) ??? Additionally, are there? any menu changes needed on the radio? to enable communication between the rig and the LA1K?

Re: Antenna selection
Depends on your country.? In the US, the max is 100W PEP ERP.? If you are using a 1/4 wave vertical, and a 100W RIG, you could not achieve 100W ERP without an amp.
FWIW, mine works fine on 60m, just have to be careful with the drive power so you do not exceed the 100W ERP which in my case, is 200W output with my antenna. N5GGG |

If 60M were a band available on the LA-1K amp (which it isn't), using the amp on the 60-Meter band would be perfectly legal as long as a licensed amateur operator doesn't violate any and all pertinent parts of 47 CFR Part 97, as amended. Please feel free to visit my QRZ page to eyeball my Elecraft KPA1500 (next to my LA-1K) to see for yourself 60M can be selected by the push of the button 5 to the right of the button AUX located on the lower left corner of the KPA1500.? "Band 5 MHz" appears briefly in the Status/Menu Display of the amp each time the amp is being switched to 60M. 73, Ray KJ5MI |

Steve,
I understand your frustration with the latest replies.??? I am not sure if you want to use Ant 1 or Ant 2 in the situation you described. Assuming you want Ant 2, If the amp is turned on, (which it would have to be in order to select an antenna)? and even though it is in bypass/standby, perhaps? it automatically ? detects a frequency,? and if so, maybe it is defaulting to Ant 1?? 73, Ron??
