Locked Re: FW: New user need help

I have always stayed with the DecoderPro -- but that is because 'I don't like change': problematic with getting old I guess.

Also most of the work I do with JMRI pertains to operations so that is why I stay with DP.

Locked Re: Trix loco decoder 66840

I'm afraid not.
Trix decoders are designed & manufactured by Doehler & Haass.
This one is also referenced to as DH14 but is not in the D&H list presently.
Pierre B. has made a tremendous job with D&H decoders. He might be of help here.

Fix done and in SVN Commit [r26314]

Bob to decide if he wants to embark this in 3.7.8/3.8, as the version is code freeze now.
If not, will be in 3.9.1

Thomas,

I'm the one who introduced the SDH166D and SDXH166D as of JMRI 3.7.5.
I worked primarily on SDXH166D and didn't pay attention to SDH166D restrictions. I'll fix that today.
Any other feedback welcome as I worded with documentation only (I do not own yet any of these).

Only the SDHX166D has all the sounds listed.

We have been working our way using 0603 sized resistors. Placement requires
thinking about the bolster and if the screw is recessed or not. For many
cars we've been gluing the resistor on the middle of the axle if the axle is
non-conductive. But the screw sometimes catches it there. On metal axle cars
we put the resistor across the insulation between the axle and the wheel.

Originally we had some 0402 resistors and those flew too far if you sneezed.

Peter,
I do not know what reference he was using, but the 8-bit decoder (SDH166D) only has two sounds, basic diesel and basic steam.
The 16 bit decoder (SDHX166D) has all the sound sets.

When he programs the SDH166D he uses the CV pane, not the sound pane, as the values are wrong.
He has installed several of both, so this might be experience, not manual reading.

It is Digitrax. Confusing by design!

Brian,

I have seen this behaviour with Win 7. I run Comodo Ice Dragon as my default browser but when clicking on a link in email (Thunderbird) it always ran up IE.

Although you make a browser other than IE default, the association of HTML seems to remain with IE. I edited my file associations and Ice Dragon now runs up when clicking on the emailed link.

I assume that JMRI is passing the .HTML address to the OS and it then uses its file associations to find the target program.

Peter

That doesn't sound like it worked correctly. Surely it should open the default browser.

I must be going blind and deleted my first response.

I looked but it's confusing what sounds are included if any.
Can your club member provide the appropriate documentation or point to it so the definition can be upgraded?

Forgot to say I use the plastic axle wheels on the inner (non resistor fitted) wheelsets of trucks so I don't waste them.

Good points Len, but we're talking about glueing, not soldering

Done right they can be great, but done wrong the can be a disaster.
Improper soldering will lead to cracking of parts as well as many
other failure modes.

Thanks, bawbyk!
I looked and whaddya know, there it is! Which do you prefer, DP or DP3?

Locked Re: FW: New user need help

Thanks, Peter! Everything has been helpful. I have my PR3 set up as an interface. I plugged in an extra Digitrax decoder in the loco just for testing. the lights and motor responded. The original decoder I'm trying to program does not, and my error messages are always of the no response type as if there was no loco on the track. I fear I have toasted the sound decoder, but not sure how. I really don't want to do it again!

Locked Re: 10k SMD resistors

I use 402 size. I file a chamfer on the insulated bush (I only use metal axle wheelsets, I've not had success with plastic axles) and find that size is the right length to fit across the chamfer. It also fits across flush bushes. I glue them down with cyano black side down to protect the resistance film. Then put conductive paint on both ends of the resistor to make a good connection to the wheel and axle (I usually file the axle and wheel before glueing to give a better connection). When checking the resistance, wait for the paint to fully dry, if too low I scrape across the resistor (why the black side is down), too high I redo the paint. I reckon 95% work first time, over 400 made so far.
Before fitting to a car I paint the wheelsets, that hides the resistor and file marks.

Not restricted to NCE. Same problems here with Digitrax.

You are one of many to have that experience. There must be a lot of unused PowerPax boosters owned by NCE Power Pro users. I was fortunate in that I was able to exchange mine.

To put the DEcoderPro option onto your desktop
go to the start menu, Programs, JMRI directory and then you will see the DEcoderPro program. drag this onto your desktop and you can get the 'original' DecoderPro
