That 303 error message, that can only be generated if the command station responds to the system with a message that says the command isn't supported.

You said in your original message you had a "Lenz 100 system". Can you be more specific? Which Lenz command station are you using? Is it an LZ100 or an LZV100? Which firmware is installed? (you can use the JMRI XPressNet System Information tool to find this, but you can also find it on a handheld throttle).

I'm really confused because the log you sent showed this at the end:

2017-06-21 16:21:14,840 jmrit.AbstractIdentify WARN - Requested operation not implemented in command station (303), trying Paged mode [AWT-EventQueue-0]
2017-06-21 16:21:17,851 jmrit.AbstractIdentify WARN - Stopping due to error: Requested operation not implemented in command station (303) [AWT-EventQueue-0]
2017-06-21 16:21:17,852 jmrit.AbstractIdentify WARN - Restoring Direct Byte mode [AWT-EventQueue-0]

Which indicates that the system tried to use direct byte mode, but that wasn't supported, so it tried to use paged mode, but that was not supported either.

(A Lenz Compact or Atlas Commander would respond this way, but no version 3.5 or newer LZ100 or LZV100 should).

To access the loco slots on a DR5000 you need to connect to it via a Digitrax connection. I normally connect via the USB port which allows JMRI to connect by both Loconet and Xpressnet and also the DR5000 configuration software all at the same time on virtual com ports with the one cable.
From JMRI's Digitrax slot monitor you can clear slots etc.
On Xpressnet, loco function setting (F1), MU, stack and other functions do not work. It also doesn't report stack full, but will report slots full on a Digitrax throttle.
As the DR5000 is updatable, they may add these functions in the future. The RS bus has been added in the last year and a WiFi throttle is supposed to be in the works,
I haven't had success connecting a computer by WiFi, but have only tried once and the tablet I use doesn't have ethernet, so haven't done that either. I have used a LIUSB on Xpressnet which also works with JMRI.
When you connected via the LIUSB, does the system have the same limitations as when connected via the DR5000's USB port?

Just checking because it sounds to me like the device may be a bit of a work in progress, a moving target of sorts, and we may not want to put anything special to handle it in JMRI until everything settles out with the development.

(plus, from the JMRI perspective, if the LocoNet side of things works, we should be able to do everything there we would do from the XPressNet side of things.)

Can you open up the preferences and then select the "Defaults" panel from the menu on the left. Make sure that everything is set to either the Z21 or Z21XPressNet connection (it shouldn't matter which one). If they aren't set that way, change the defaults, save the preferences and restart.

That could cause things to appear to not work.

Locked Car Location Printout

Once again I tried searching for this one and failed. So please bear with me if this has been asked previously.

I want to print the cars at just one location. So I go to that location, and under tools I select show cars, and then select car roster, and then print. Before I print, I can select what data to print by selecting preview.

Unfortunately, even if I reduce the data to the bare minimum, when this report prints most of the data is off the page to the right due mainly to weird spacing between the letters. This makes the report useless. If I reduce the font to the point where the data is on the page, then it is so small that I cannot read it without a magnifying glass.

I tried printing in landscape format, but apparently this feature does not communicate with my printer. I.e. nothing happened at all.

All I want is car number, road, type, and location, so that I can check where everything is at each town individually. I can get by without the car type, but that only save a small amount of space, not enough to increase font size without losing part of the location information.

Suggestions? Ideas?

Locked Re: help required to configure JMRI for DIY controller interface

Geoff,

Yes, that is a correct interpretation of the C/MRI protocol. The C/MRI protocol does not have any message formats which deal with only one output, or only one input. It only has formats which deal with "all inputs on the node" or "all outputs on the node".

So, when the "master" changes an output, _all_ outputs on the "node" are written by the master. (It is incumbent on the "master" to keep track of all output values, and modify only the one being targeted; the "master" then updates the node with all of the output values appropriate for that node.)

And, when the "master" queries a node, the node presents values from _all_ inputs on the "node" for the master to "read".

Locked Re: Operations -- Missing staging tracks

Dan,

Problem solved, but I am confused. Turns out the track had more cars than the route was set for. Same with the other missing tracks. I mistakenly thought that the program would use however many cars it needed, and leave the others on the staging track.

Okay, well, on to other things, like actually building that train and running it!!!

Thanks for everyone's help.

Locked Re: Operations -- Missing staging tracks

Dan,

Well, my idea of deleting one of the missing tracks and then copying a good track to that track name did not work.

I deleted track 2 which was one of the missing tracks. I copied track 1, which was one of the good tracks, and named it track 2. So now track 2 has identical settings as track 1. I relocated the appropriate cars to track 2. Then I tried to build a train. The program gave me the list of tracks again. Track 1 is on the list. Track 2 is still missing. Failed.

I am going to build a train from track 1 and then look at the build report, as you suggested.

Locked Re: help required to configure JMRI for DIY controller interface

Hi Bob,

Although everything with JMRI-CMRI interface is working fine, I have one more question. I have been examining the messages sent using the CMRI Serial monitor. It appears to me that when one object e.g. a Light is clicked on/off, the CMRI packet contains the state of all other defined objects states for that node. e.g. if L1 is already ON and L2 is clicked, the message sent includes L1 current state. I have been looking at available doco but I am unable to confirm this fundamental operation.

Is my understanding of how this works correct or way off?

Normand,

The train build report will show you all 50 tracks and why the 7 weren't available. It doesn't matter which staging track you choose. My guess is that you either have too many cars for the train's route, or the length of the cars exceeds the train's route. Here's the help:

Locked Re: Operations -- Missing staging tracks

Norman,

The train build report will show you all of the tracks available and not available from staging. Just try to build the train, and press "Cancel" for the staging track selection. The build will fail, but the report will list all 50 tracks, and why the 7 weren't available.

Hello all,

Dave, thank you for your reply.

I installed the SiLabs CP210x drivers without issue some time ago and, I have no issue with the USB Interface communicating since I can use the Withrottle portion of JMRI without issue. Whenever I send a command from my smartphone throttle, the status leds on the USB Interface flash and the locomotive responds. Hopefully I am not way off base in this assumption.

All four jumpers on the USB Interface are in the off position. This configuration remains unchanged from before this PC was wiped and upgraded.

FYI on my Android 7.1.2 device there is no "smart network switch" setting
under the "Advanced Wi-Fi" menu. My solution to the problem is to enable
Airplane Mode to turn off the cellular connection (and the WiFi connection),
and then turn only the WiFi connection back on.

Hi Bob,

When you connect your phone to your desired network, is there an
"exclamation point" on your wifi icon at the top? (your screenshot doesn't
show the entire screen).

If so, that exclamation point may indicate the root of your problem. Some
newer phones ignore wifi connections that cannot reach the Internet. See
here; . androidpolice.com/2014/10/18/ lollipop-feature-spotlight-
android-now-defaults-to- mobile-data-when-wi-fi-has-no-

If that's your issue, you need to turn off this "feature'. On my phone,
under Wifi, Advanced, the option is called "Smart Network Switch". Turn that
off and see if you can connect.

This is becoming a common issue for Android users trying to connect to a
wifi network without Internet connection.

Mick,

You are correct. I was thinking of "Idle" status, but for some reason my keyboard typed "Stop".

In "Idle" status, track power is ON but control of mobile decoders is disabled. Thus, lights and sound, if previously on and/or if triggered by track power, will activate, but you cannot otherwise control locos. This status is indicated by the flashing track power dot on the DTxxx throttles.
