Can you open up the preferences and then select the "Defaults" panel from the menu on the left. Make sure that everything is set to either the Z21 or Z21XPressNet connection (it shouldn't matter which one). If they aren't set that way, change the defaults, save the preferences and restart.
That could cause things to appear to not work.
