Re: Precise position of trains and maneuvers automation
I think the OPs desire is to work on a new method of sensing train
positions with a view to writing a thesis, presumably towards a Masters or
PhD (he says diploma, but this seems higher level than

I circle back to the procedures of software revision and control.
Maintain a master copy stored securely and reverted to when approved changes are to be made.

C/MRI bugs found?
#cmri
Hi, I think I have found 2 bugs in the C/MRI implementation in JMRI.
JMRI 5.8 on Windows 11, Java 11
C/MRI connexion:
- Node number = 2
- Node type = CPMEGA
- All 8 onboard bytes (cards) are

Re: Precise position of trains and maneuvers automation
Why assume stationary uncouplers? On-board DCC ones provide much more
freedom (yes, at much more expense, but we don't know the size and scale of
the layout envisioned, nor the budget, nor the number

Re: Password on files?
I think the only proper solution would be a list of users and roles within
JMRI, and all menu items checking on whether a user's choice corresponds
with any role that would allow him to perform that

Re: Precise position of trains and maneuvers automation
If you are running automation, you might try the JMRI dispatcher.
Let's say your train approaches an uncoupling position.
As soon as the train enters the detected section (current sense), it will slow

It should be noted: MS-Windows since MS-Windows NT 4 has had these abilities --
file ownership and protection and multiple *users*, who could be granted
different levels of access to "shared"

Re: Password on files?
MS, Unix, and OS X have the ability to assign users permission to do or not do things to files.
In other words, "everyone" can read and/or execute the panel file.
If certain users and/or

OK, that sounds like you want multiple user logins. One (or more?) admin
logins and one (or more) non-admin logins. I can explain how to do this under
Linux...

Yes, it is under user access and protections. You create separate *users*: one
"admin" user, who is solely allowed to modify Panels (or and other JMRI
resource), one (or more) non-admin users, who

I would be interested in which CV's are becoming corrupt. That would
require a roster entry in JMRI, a loco that reads well on the
programming track, and doing a compare of the roster to the loco

Yes:
The club wants to prevent anyone changing the panels files, only selective members who should have the right to modify the data.
Not the whole computer.

Conrad,
Glad you got it sorted.
Yes, your logs show the symptom expected. Your Arduino system (Mega?) reboots if a message is received within x seconds at startup.
JMRI keeps retrying for a while,

Does changing the settings in the operating system for the panel file solve your problem ?
For example, changing the file to "read only", and thus stopping things over-writing it ?
