Ok ladies and gents, I have a layout drawn up and in JMRI. I can pull the panel up use all the turnouts from the panel all this works great. My question after operating on a few different layouts. How do I get the panels to load once I select the profile I want for the panels to come up without having to select the file of the panels. I have the start up instructions set but what am I missing. I’ve seen several iterations once the profile is selected it brings up the panels belonging to that profile without actually having to select the files.

I have all of the jumpers removed from the USB board.(I read that in a NCE tech note).
I will get the log data when I get home.

- Version of JMRI
- Version returned by the NCE USB
- The logged error message
- NCE command station firmware version id
- That’s either 1.28something or 1.65something.
? But so far it is looking like you may not have the right jumper settings in the NCE USB and the version ID it is giving doesn’t match what it should be for the SB5 system. But depending on which jumper settings, the baud rate may also need

Speed testing, Sensors, Speedometer output

As I posted a few weeks ago, I'm setting up a speed matching loop.? Using 8 BD-20 NCE detectors, 1 AIU, PH-Pro, RS-232 to computer running JMRI (Windows 11 OS).

Using the Ultimate Speed Matching (USM) scripts as a basis, modifications seem to be working well with the following exceptions:

Speed measurements can be all over the place due to "bounce" on the detectors.? The JMRI Speedometer Tool seems to not see this as much (doing exit to exit on the tool).? So will adding de-bounce to the 8 sensors help?? Do I use active bounce, inactive bounce, both?? Does this change the factors for calculating speeds since in the script, it's looking for sensors changed?

Is there a way for the USM script to open up the speedometer windows and provide an output back to the USM script.? In other words, is there a way in the USM script to call the speedometer and get the result back to use rather than the timers used in the USM script?
?
Another couple anomalies:
--? After the script is complete, I then run the loco at the speed steps and measure the expected speed and it seems to run a couple mph slower than during the script.
--? Has anyone figured out how to speed match with an ESU decoder where SS28 is always 255 and the top of the curve is adjusted with CV5 and the rest of CV67-94 are proportional?
--? Using the 3rd lowest measured speed seems to be a short cut.? Has anyone taken the measured speeds, throw out the top two and bottom two and return the average speed?

I have a current methodology to manually set the speed table by running the loco at SS 5, 10, 15, 20, 24, 28 and entering the measured speed into a spreadsheet that then tells me what setting to set each of those to in order to get the desired speeds (my standard is 10, 20, 30, 40, 55, 70 at those SS).? After I get more of the bugs worked out of the modified USM script, I'll take a turn at trying this method.

Bill S, ? I confirmed by looking at the code that I need to see the system log of that startup to give you a correct explanation. But the general statement is the code is seeing a version number coming back from the interface that doesn’t match with the settings in the connection. Bill S, ? This message happens with the ID from the connection, like 6.2.1, doesn’t agree with your settings. Please post the console log from your startup (before making any changes) so I can confirm that code made the right decision. What I am looking for is the line that looks like this: ? 17:53:35,155 jmri.jmrix.nce.NceConnectionStatus??? INFO? - NCE: NCE EPROM revision = 6.2.1 [AWT-EventQueue-0] The value after the equals is the trigger. Knowing what you had set in the preferences and matching to that code will figure this out. ? Thanks everyone Dick’s suggestion about turning on track power was my problem. ?I was so use to resetting all my turnouts to their default positions before turning on track power I never tried that solution. ? With the Dcs100 I would power up the layout reset all switch's to their default and than turn on track power, need to learn a new routine now for the dcs210+

Well I just tried use Power Cab (like it says) even though I have an SB5 and the message didn’t appear again so I am going to try and read a locomotive. ? Very strange as under Windows 10 it did work as SB5. ?

Not a good reason to add them.? It only means that your flatcars can only take 20% of the available track space, or 1/5 five cars could be a flatcar going to one of those track types.? I wouldn't change a thing.

I am trying to run transits, I am using a windows computer running JMRI 5.10 with Java 11 through a Digitrax DSC52. My signal mast will only function once the track power is turned on. The ones listed below will only function after a train has been run throw the signal even if the turnouts have been changed. They all start with ML 4-5, 7-6, 13-14, 15-14, 11-12, 12-11, 17-16 and 16-17. The blocks in involved are on two different units BDL168 and BDL716. I have stripped down the signals, logic, blocks and sections with no change in result.

First off, yes, probably have too many boxcars on the layout. ?So I ran the track analysis tool for boxcars and the results were:
Spurs. ?Track length 2877. 141%
Yard. ?Track length 2070. ?196%
CI. ?Track length 2635. ?154%
Staging. Track length 1050. ?386%
?
I run in Aggressive mode with 2 passes and get good car movement, however I do need to add flatcars and gondolas as they were down below 20% in total of all track types.
?
To what level should I be adjusting the boxcar percentages for best utilization?
