¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMarc, Should he first RESET the decoder to default before the " READ FULL SHEET (CV Tab)? " ? ? Thanks. Should have mentioned that... Dan, the old advice about needing to get a LokProgrammer CV Export file should be further modified. Since ESU made changes to the default write settings in LokProgrammer, the situation of a Reset causing problems is very remote. I need to modify that documentation but can't find enough hours in the day... Dave in Australia |

Re: Ops Feature Request
Jeff,
FYI, when you use a schedule to ship a car to a location / track that's the final destination for that car, so if you pick the "alternate" track the program will ship the car there, and that's the end for that car. Just because its an alternate track doesn't tell the program which spur to use since many spurs can use the same alternate track.? Only when you send a car to a spur that is full and also has an alternate, will the program send the car to the alternate.? Cars on the alternate that were sent there because the spur or spurs where full, will have a final destination associated with them which is the spur that was full.? Also, the alternate track should be a "yard" type track, you don't want the load the change until the car gets to the spur.? And you don't want a schedule associated with the alternate track. Here's the help link: Dan |

Re: Ops Feature Request
Hi Jeff,
The car on the alternate track should go to the spur, not the yard.? Are you sure that's what happening? To use the alternate track feature, you would only send cars to the spur, and the program when finding the spur full, should send the next car to the alternate track.? When the spur car gets pulled, the program should send any cars on the alternate to the spur.? You shouldn't use a schedule in any way with regards to the alternate track. The correct way to use the alternate track feature, is to tell the program which track is the alternate for the spur track.? Then you're done. Dan |

Should he first RESET the decoder to default before the " READ FULL SHEET (CV Tab)? " ? ?
At this point, since he did write out values when he tried to change CV's for speed and volume, we do not know what he wrote out:? full sheet or all sheets but clearly it was mre than a few CV's that got changed, no ?. Marc |

Re: Ops Feature Request
Jeff,
?My alternate tracks work exactly the way you want - The next train servicing that location will pull the load(s) from the spur, move car(s) from the alternate to the spur, and drop new car(s) to the alternate.? I set this up quite some time ago, and I'm not near the layout computer, so unfortunately I can't provide details on how it's done. I'd suggest rechecking your setup against the tutorial, because it certainly can be made to work. Hopefully Dan will jump in with more specifics. HTH, Steve "Breezlys" |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJohn, Do a reset on the decoder. You can't reprogram an ESU decoder with JMRI/DP, you can only change CVs. Incorrect and misleading advice. You can program ESU decoders with JMRI DecoderPro, you just can't load new Sound Project files. You must follow correct procedures for ESU decoders. Programming ESU Decoders You must use New Loco->Read Type from Decoder to allow JMRI to pick the correct definition file. Don't guess. Reading the full decoder is essential, particularly with ESU decoders where there are no "standard defaults". Each sound project has its own "factory defaults". All ESU sound decoders are manufactured effectively blank. When a Sound project is loaded to the decoder (using LokProgrammer software) part of the procedure is to write a new set of "factory defaults". Because of a known (but as yet unresolved) race condition with certain decoder settings variables in JMRI code: 1) Use "Read Full Sheet" on the CVs pane instead of "Read All Sheets". It is less likely to cause errors when reading a decoder with lots of CVs. Once finished, some may be missed (displayed in red). Use "Read Changes on Sheet" as many times as needed until no red items remain. (Hint: Click on the Status column in the CVs pane until you see a down arrow. All the Red items will then be at the top.) 2) After you make changes on a programming sheet, don't use Write/Read changes on that programming sheet. Instead, switch to the CVs pane and use Write/Read changes on (the CVs) sheet. The result is the same but it will never trigger the race condition. You'll also see a number of messages in the JMRI System Log like this: "ERROR - Variable=xxxxxx; Busy goes false with state IDLE" Ignore these as they don't indicate a real error, we'll fix the problem in a later JMRI release. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDan, See instructions below.
That's not helpful. The latest Production Version is 4.16 and the latest Test Version is 4.17.6. Please be more specific. Your NCE setup is fine. It's very similar to what I use and I do all the JMRI development work for LokSound V4 and 5. (Also, I'm aware that you are probably new to this list but when asking a new question, you must start a New Topic (web version) or if using email a fresh email to "[email protected]". Replying to an existing topic and asking a new question is what is called thread-hijacking and and causes lots of problems and confusion for those trying to help you, or just simply follow questions and answers. You can't reprogram an ESU decoder with JMRI/DP, you can only change CVs. Go over to the LokSound group on Groups.io, join, look in the files section for a list of folks who will help out, it is in Word and pdf., you should find someone there somewhat close to you, hopefully. Ops Feature Request
Needing some kind of a "Wait track" option, for Locations as in the example below:
?
? An Industry is allowed one car length for loading, with an adjacent undesignated track (we will call this a Wait track for a moment). Two scheduled cars are delivered to this Industry/Spur, but only one can go to the Spur, the other to the Wait track for forwarding later to that Spur. The next train to service the Spur brings a new car. It pulls the load from the Spur, forwards the car on the Wait track to the Spur, and sets out the most recent car on the Wait track for forwarding next cycle.?
?
So, we would like to use the Alternate Track designed for an "off spot", as a track used to take cars that do not fit in the Spur, but still need to go there.
Currently the program considers the Alternate Track as the destination and the car travels back to the yard and not the spur.
We would like to have the function of the Alternate Track to work as it does, except the car is forwarded to the intended Spur when there is room for it.
Currently we use schedules to route the car from the alternate track to the industry, but that does not always work because the program will send a car directly to the Spur from the Yard, so there is no room for the car from the alternate track (the waiting car gets bypassed).?
If the program could first check for cars at the alternate track, and assign them first, then the cars from the Yard / C/I track, it would work.?
Not being a programmer, we could be overly optimistic, but hopefully there is a way to do this... ? ?:)

I am a beginner on JMRI and only a year into DCC, so please be patient.? I had a dealer install a LOK sound in a 10 yo Athearn Genesis.? It worked fine but when I got JMRI working I wanted to reduce volumes and alter accel/decel.? I put in it on a program track and made some changes (I repeat I'm a beginner).? Back on main, the engine runs OK, but no sounds, no lights, and occasional run-away.? DecoderPro says this can happen and not to worry "just" download stuff from LOK Sound and upload to JMRI.? Huh?
A few facts: 1. 18", 24 ga wire, loosely twisted to prog track 2. 2 yo NCE Power Pro, 5 amp 3. 10 yo Lenovo T520 w/ Windows 10 I am years behind you guys.? For now all I want to do is simple, easy, standard decoder programming with JMRI.?? Thanks |
Fran?ois,
Tricks like the reset methods via a single CV is to use the Tools->Programmers->Single CV Programmer, that is from PanelPro. From DecoderPro it is found at Actions->Single CV Programmer. You can pick the programming method and just type in any CV values regardless of if it was in the roster entry or not. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.org www.syracusemodelrr.org |

Re: Making VSD Files and Config - Volume question
#vsdecoder
Phil,
This is slightly off topic of the volume thread but I have to tell you that I have taken your ALCO 539 sounds (w/ bell & horn) and modified my ALCO S2 VSD folder to a new ALCO S1.? ?Although I don't believe there is a S1 switcher made for n scale, running my S2 with you non-turbo 539 diesel sounds good to me. A couple of points: 1) I don't believe you horn tags for the short horn are correct.? I think you have to have a separate listing for the short horn. Also the target name for F3 must be different than "Wabco-E2" so as not to conflict with F2, the regular horn. And, I have not seen a "<short-file>sounds/ ... </short-file>" tag.? Maybe "?<mid-file>sounds/ ... </mid-file>" is correct <sound name="Wabco-E2" type="configurable">
? ? ? <start-file>sounds/Common/HornStart.wav</start-file>
? ? ? ?<short-file>sounds/Common/HornMiddle.wav</short-file>
? ? ? <end-file>sounds/Common/HornEnd.wav</end-file>
? ? ? <short-file>sounds/Common/HornMiddle.wav</short-file>? Don't think this is correct, either in location or name.
? ? ? <start-sound-duration>136</start-sound-duration>
? ? ? <gain>0.9</gain>
? ? </sound>? 2) After your discussion with Klaus, I went back and modded all my diesel VSD folder diesel3 tags to?<engine-gain>0.2</engine-gain> from <gain>0.8</gain>. I did not change any function gains (bell, horn, etc.).? This made a big difference in pushing the engine noise somewhat into the background and bringing the functions to the forefront. Conrad |

Hi. Believe I found Doug's message that you referred to below on the Digitrax group. #163566 on 04/08/2011 !!! In addition to your comments, Doug noted that when in the default condition (OpSw14=Thrown) the SE8C only responds when track power is on. Robin Robin Becker San Diego, CA -----Original Message-----
From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of billybob experimenter Sent: Wednesday, December 04, 2019 4:11 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [jmriusers] SE8C NTXXX Commands instead of LTXXX Marc, I believe you have interpreted the table in the SE8C manual incorrectly - something that I have done many times in the past; those tables make sense to the engineer at Digitrax, and perhaps a few others, but the average joe often finds them difficult to understand. Doug Stuard tested the SE8C operation very carefully with respect to SE8C OpSw14 and documented his findings. My notes show that he provided his test results in post # 163882, but I cannot determine which list, and on which site, that post came from. Searches of the jmriusers groups.io list did not find that post. Doug found that the default, SE8C OpSw14=Thrown, made the SE8C respond ONLY to the turnout control packets found on the DCC track signal on the "RailSync" wires. LocoNet "Data" wires were ignored (for signal control) when OpSw14=Thrown. He found that when SE8C OpSw14=Closed, the SE8C responded ONLY to the turnout messages found on the LocoNet "Data" wires. The DCC track signal on the "RailSync" wires was ignored in this case. Regards, Billybob |

Re: JMRI & JAVA on Chromebook
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýEd,? I have Ubuntu and Java installed, but JMRI cannot see any serial ports, does anyone have ideas on how to expose them, the JMRI instructions say to change the permissions, but it expects you to know the addresses, and I am not sure Chrome OS makes them available to crouton/Ubuntu. Have you read and tried the instructions on "Using the Serial Ports" down near the end under "Notes" at the following link? <> It not only gives instructions but specifically warns that changing serial port permissions will not solve the problem. I'm not guaranteeing they'll work under Chrome OS... Dave in Australia |
Fran?ois,
CV 8 is purposely greyed out in the definitions to prevent accidental writing. To reset, in the top menu bar of the roster entry is an item labeled Reset. Click on that and click on factory reset in the drop down menu. Depending on the decoder you may have one or more reset options. -- Peter Ulvestad JMRI Users Group Moderator - ( ) Tam Valley Group Moderator - ( ) Sprog-DCC Group Moderator - ( ) Edmonton Model Railroad Association - |
